Two much-leaked controllers have now been made official by Serato, which today published details of the imminent Denon DJ SC Live 2 and SC Live 4 devices on its blog.

Available to buy as of tomorrow, the two new devices are compatible with Serato DJ Pro as of the latest version 2.6.1, giving users an alternative to using the units’ built-in “standalone” Engine DJ OS.

Features listed by Serato for the Denon DJ SC Live 4 are:

  • 7” touchscreen display
  • 8 performance pads per deck letting you control Serato DJ Pro pad modes
  • 6” capacitive-touch jogwheels that display track information
  • Built-in speaker monitors with dedicated volume control
  • Dedicated BPM and Sweep FX sections
  • Dual microphone connectivity
  • XLR and RCA master outputs

The SC Live 2 is the cut-down, two-channel version of the same:

First Thoughts

Built-in speakers on both devices are definitely the biggest departure here, indicating that Denon DJ is widening its focus from pro DJs to home/semi-pro DJs. So while Denon DJ has the Prime 4 and Prime 2 (the latter seemingly unavailable anywhere for a while now) in its range, it appears these are not intended as replacements. Also, note the in-jog data on the SC Live 4 – a first for Engine DJ-powered units.
