Evermix has released a new version of its DJ app for iOS and Android, and the headline change is a new Pro subscription tier that adds livestreaming, video capture and one-tap uploads.
Before getting into what Pro does, it’s worth being clear about what Evermix actually is. It’s a DJ-friendly audio interface, a little box that sits between your DJ gear and your phone so you can digitise, record and live stream your sets. The app is the software side of that, and until now it has been free. Our review of Evermix 5 is here.
Nothing you’ve relied on has gone away. On the free tier you can still record your audio, watch your levels as you play, and save and organise your mixes in the app. If that’s all you need, it’s still there.
What’s in Pro
The Pro tier is where the new features sit. You can record and livestream at the same time, capture video from your phone’s camera with synced audio, and stream to Mixcloud Live, Twitch and YouTube, or out to any standard RTMP destination with the stream keys generated for you inside the app. There’s also what Evermix calls advanced audio processing and mastering, plus one-tap upload to Mixcloud and SoundCloud.
It’s convenient stuff, and the appeal is obvious if you want to get a set online without a laptop and a pile of separate tools.
Evermix has also published a coming soon list – AI tracklisting, in-app video editing, analytics, more mastering tools, and the usual creator partnerships and offers. These are promises rather than features, so judge the subscription on what it does today and treat anything on that list as a bonus if and when it lands. Subscribing partly for things that don’t exist yet always carries a bit of risk.
Is it for me?
Be clear about what your money buys here. Evermix is an audio interface, and this is a recording and streaming app. There are other audio interfaces, and there are other ways to record and stream your sets. What the subscription buys you, and what the hardware buys you, is convenience. One box, one app on your phone, doing the whole lot with minimum fuss.
Truth is that anything that gets you recording and sharing your sets more often is welcome. Only you can decide whether making it this easy will actually get you doing it. If it does, it probably pays for itself.
