The Lowdown

The Numark CD Mix USB is a two-channel all-in-one media player with two CD trays in a single compact chassis that now feature two USB slots. Ruggedly built and reliable, the CD Mix was a sound choice for the mobile professional, and now holds strong appeal for those carrying large music libraries on USB drives.

First Impressions / Setting up

The Numark CD Mix USB is an affordable, self-contained controller/mixer unit that is suitable for mobile DJs who do not want to carry several pieces of equipment around. As the name suggests, the unit can play music from either your CDs or from a USB thumb drive. The CD Mix USB also has a dedicated mixer section, 1/8″ and 1/4″ headphone jacks, two balanced outputs to connect to a pair of powered speakers, aux inputs for playing from line level devices and a single mic input.

In Use

Navigating your music library is fairly straightforward granted that they are arranged by folder. There is also access to very basic effects such as looping and scratching.

The layout is simple – no button or knob is out of place. The jogwheels may be a bit small for some people but every other feature such as the faders and knobs all feel pretty smooth. The Numark CD Mix USB definitely feels like it could take a beating with its solid metal chassis.

An Amazon reviewer mentioned that you can still play files from your CDs/USBs while having a laptop connected for more flexibility. The reviewer did also mention that the CD Mix USB is a bit slow when reading MP3 files from a CD.

Conclusion

Overall, the Numark CD Mix USB is a great, affordable option for mobile DJs who primarily play at functions, parties or weddings. It may not have a lot of advanced features but the convenience of having several pieces of gear all put into one unit is a good trade-off.
