I am not a big fan of the Wego series, primarily because the button layout is so far from “regular” that I don’t find it comfortable working.

That said, you are not gonna get anything to “pro” for under 300 bucks either. If you are a starter, our advise is to NOT start with a pro-level controller anyway. Starter controllers aren’t called that for nothing. They have all you need, but nothing that can make you stray from the things you need to work on when just starting, which is all pretty straightforward mixing and some FX use.

A more substantial controller would be the Numark iDJ Pro for example. Something a bit more pro-like would be the Reloop BeatPad 2. Not out too long, so the pricing is quite a bit out of your budget.

You could look for a BeatPad (previous model) on the second hand market. My personal choice would rather be a used BeatPad than a new Wego3, but that is a highly personal choice.

    Hi everyone
I’m looking for a relativly cheap digital controller that could be possibly used with djay pro for iPad, would the wego3 be too beginner for me or am I overconfident? Maybe something a little more pro could be good. My price range is 0-300 dollars. I don’t have a laptop/MacBook (although I wish I did) if anyone had any ideas I would be very grateful
    Thanks, Callum

Btw … in your list of controllers I’d personally scratch the Wego and the Slate and replace them with the SB2 and the MC2000 as possible candidates.

So I’m wanting to start djing. And I want to know as much as I can. First of all I want to try traktor but I’m not sure yet. I’m going to be the sit at home DJ who hosts parties or djs for people. I’m deciding between these controllers.

    Traktor kontrol s2

    Numark mixtrack pro 3

    Pioneer ddj wego3

    Reloop beatmix 2

    Gemini SLATE 2

What would you recommend. And would all of these work with traktor?

In the future I would want to add this

Will it be compatible with the software and the controllers I chose. Any tips would also be appreciated? Thank you

Yeah, it is going to be important to consider kit that has a soundcard in it, as cueing on headphones while you play is a pretty important thing to have and learn. That said, it looks like both of the ones you’re looking at include built in soundcards, so you’re good in regard to that. The Universal looks like it has better options for output, including both RCA and mini (in addition to the headphone jack), which should cover home stereo and powered computer speakers for taking it to friends’ houses, but as I look at the images over at Hercules’ site, it appears that when used with a mobile device that it may not support headphones when using it with a mobile device in Bluetooth mode.

On the other hand, the Pioneer brand certainly has a lot more respect than Hercules amongst the DJing community, so while you’ve heard me pound on about the Hercules, that is not to say that the WeGo3 isn’t something to seriously consider.

If possible, it might be good to get out to a local music hardware shop that sells DJ gear and see if you (and he, of coz) can maybe gerfingerenpoken with them both to see which feels nicer too.

    Hi,

I know this is a bit late in the day but I am looking for a last minute Chrimbo present for my son. I have narrowed it down to the following two – Pioneer weGO 3 or the Hercules Universal DJ

The reason I am looking at these is for the following reasons

WeGO3 – iPad integration and can run with just the iPad connected – although he only has an iPad mini – don’t know if that will be an issue though – and also the Spotify integration

Herules – Again the iPad integration – along with the android as well as he is getting my Galaxy S5 Neo for Christmas as well although I can’t figure out if this runs with just the iPad as a source or requires a PC Input with iPad/phone for extending features??

He has a PC in his room – no laptop – which is why I am looking at these two – they are obviously different prices as well with the Hercules being @£120 and the weGO @£210

He had a go at mixing at his friends birthday party last week and enjoyed it – and has changed his Christmas list to a mixing deck.

So I am looking for some advice from the experts – and my wife and I are looking at getting our Whistles and glo-stix out of retirement to relive the 90’s

We are looking to buy within the next couple of days

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

Thanks again! I’m going to try out the wego and the reloop I think.

Kill switches … uncommon on controllers (they do exist but are a small minority). And then not as actual switch but for example as touch sensitive top of knob. Touch that and it kills that EQ.

iPad software as far a I know is still restricted to 2-channel operation as are the fitting controllers (Reloop BeatPad 2 is another viable option – a more traditional button lay-out than the WeGo imho).

In which case you’d be looking at laptop software. And while the DJAY Pro software gets some decent reviews, it’s also a much more recent entry to the DJ software market and according to some not quite finished yet. Other platforms to consider are Traktor (to be used with Traktor gear only, imho), Serato, Virtual DJ, Mixvibes Cross and recent addition RekordBox DJ.

There is a much broader choice of controllers if you go the laptop route.

Traktor is clearly moving into the non-jogwheel realm (evidence the new S5 and S8 controllers) so that might not be the direction for you to go.

If tactile feedback is important you could consider the (not so small and very heavy) NS-7II. 4-channel and with actual vinyl spinning platters.

I’m sure this question gets asked a lot but I couldn’t find an answer on here to my issue – which I’m sure is very common.
After years of mixing vinyl (although not recently, decks and records packed away for a while) I’m itching to get mixing again. My 1210s and an Intimidation Blue (anyone remember those?) just take up too much space. I love the idea of djing from my iPad mini and I see the wego3 gets decent write ups as a basic controller but… I do love the kill switches on my old mixer and I’ve always wanted to try 3 or 4 deck mixing. From what I read djay for iPad should be fine for what I need, although I think only the pro version does multiple decks (I have a MacBook Air 2011 too). I definitely want the physical feedback of some jog wheels or it won’t be the same!
Advice greatly welcomed – controller or alternative software suggestions or both. Thanks in advance guys.

Using my phone Sony Xperia Z1 compact with Android 5.1.1 and either Cross DJ or Alogriddim for Android, and an OTG cable and the right external sound card (audio interface) is it possible to get one stereo output through the headphone socket and a second stereo output through the sound card? The more I read about this, the more confused I become.
Or will it only work if using a controller like the Reloop Beatpad 2 or the Pioneer DDJ-WeGO3 ?
    Thank you in advance.

Vintage: Actually i would not be using a laptop on the controller , I would use a usb battery pack to power the controller (if a laptop can power it then a usb battery pack is enough) , my original question was im searching for a usb powered mixer, my goal IS to be able to dj with cds in an outdoor park with no electrical outlets , right now i basically have a full set up on battery power except a mixer , i do have an ipad with a controller (a pioneer wego 2 ,no audio inputs) , but i have a big cd collection and cd players that id just like to be able to use outside, sure i can just use the ipad , but id like to be able to use my cd players too, a battery powered dj mixer or usb powered controller with audio inputs is what im looking for

The Pio DDJ-SB is actually cheaper than the MixTrack I believe. Having had both Pio and Numark in the past, I personally trust Pioneer more. Depending on how portable you want your set up to be the DDJ-WEGO2 is another alternative that’s right in your price range and even comes bundled with VDJ. The soundcard is included in an all-in-one, so all you need are the right cables/adapters to plug into a channel into the mixer.

As this point, become familiar with your workflow and what software you need to achieve that because while a lot of controllers are MIDI-mappable, you’ll be selecting your hardware based off what software can be tied to it. As you progress, you may find your workflow changes, but only then will you want to change or upgrade. You don’t want to buy a kit and expect to grow into it. You’re doing the right thing starting off with a small, controller to start off. As your abilities and skills grow, you’ll add to or change your kit accordingly.

I personally can’t get used to the button layout of the WeGo, surrounding the jogwheel and so tight to it. Just me of course.

The BeatPad would be my choice before the WeGo.

As I said though, I have seen/felt the way the iPad sits in the BeatPad and as with all these setups, you don’t want to use it in an open booth (where -drunk- people can get to it) and if you touch it, there is that bounce that comes from the iPad only being held in place by the bottom rim.

WeGO3 is all you need and it sounds amazing. If you want to spend some real money, step up to the Reloop Beatpad. I wish I had one but it’s super duper expensive.
