Serato has launched its first app for iPhone/iPod touch, designed to be used alongside a Serato DJ or Serato Scratch Live setup to give DJs extra control over their software. Serato Remote Mini is a stripped-back version of Serato Remote, the popular app launched earlier this year for the iPad and iPad Mini, redesigned for the smaller screens of iPhone/iPod touch devices.
It lets you load tracks, instant double, set and trigger cue points, loops and samples, and manipulate FX. Control is either over USB for the lowest low latency, or wirelessly, freeing the user to move around while playing. It is laid out with a library control section, plus three performance tabs: pads, SP6 (sample player) and effects, and is best thought of as a supplementary controller to your main software.
• Serato Remote Mini is available now and can be downloaded direct from the App Store for US$4.99. More info at serato.com/remote/mini.
Will you be adding this to your apps without further delay? Do you use Serato Remote in your iPad? Is this stuff genuinely useful, or a bit gimmicky? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
