    Chris,

You might want to look at the Hercules laptop stand (It has been used in a couple of DDJT videos. It is well made and is height adjustable (to an extent). Stagg also makes a laptop stand but IMHO is not quite as “beefy” as the Hercules stand, but should work well with a larger laptop. The Stagg stand also has a second smaller platform for additional gear if needed. They are both in the mid priced region so you should find what you’re looking for with one of these. Sorry I don’t have the model numbers for the stands but I’m sure if you go to their website, they’ll be easy to find.

    Hope that helps

    Tord,

That is an absolutely awesome post! Thanks for reminding me of the joy we should all feel every time we play, whether its practice of playing out. It’s all about the music….

    DJ Vintage,
I appreciate the response, thanks. I think though I would like to keep the RMX in the mix for now as I am just learning the SX2 and Serato DJ. I just got them yesterday. Additionally I like the drum kit that comes with it (the RMX that is) as well as the fact that I haven’t figured it out completely (the SX2 that is), but it is setup and working properly with the RMX and mixer. I guess I’m just used to it at this point.

    Thanks again as always,

    Karlton

    Todd,

Thanks for the reply. Just so I understand it (I’m a little slow on the uptake today!), once the compressed sample goes to my download file (remember it came from the VDJ add ons) how do I decompress it, right click and then what? Or do I need a separate app to do that?

    Thanks again for your reply,

    Karlton

    Hey Stephen,

I tried to changed the file name (right click) but it is a compressed file and doesn’t allow me to change the file name or use the sample editor. I also thought if I load it onto a deck I could use the tag editor, but after changing the name and getting out of VDJ, the file name went back to their original names.

    Thanks anyway,

    Karlton

    DJ Navigator,
    Just a couple of questions:

    1. What type of music do you play/like?
    2. What’s your budget per month for music?

I find that different pools have better selection than others dependent upon your musical tastes. For example “beatport” caters to house heads (like me), but also offers a category for pop, hip hop, etc. They are just not as large as the house category. “Juno Downloads” is all about house/electro, DJ City is about the hip hop, and so on. Search around, you will find a sight that suites your needs. I subscribe to a few sites to meet my needs. To discover new music, try the download pools, going out to hear other DJ’s play and ask questions!

I appreciate all of the input that you all have given me. The search continues but I am making headway (thanks a million to Peter, you’re a life saver!), as well as everyone else. My set is starting to come together (nicely I think) and will continue over the next few weeks. This gig isn’t until June and I am just glad I’ve had the time and advise to get it right.
OBTW…I found a great track by D.C. Larue the other day that a DJ friend of mine here has. It’s named “Cathedrals”, it absolutely brought back to disco era for me! Also found some great Donna Summer trakcs and a few others too!

Thanks again, I’ll keep you all posted,

It sounds like a case for excellent crowd reading and interaction with the guests. I wouldn’t imagine it will be a typical “college gig” with the ages of the bride and groom being what they are, but you’ll do great. I try to over come most of my challenging jobs by just connecting with the crowd as much as I can and keeping in mind that having fun is universal. If I enjoy it so will most other people…

Best of luck on the job,

    Karlton

    Dj’s Vantage/Peter/D-Jam,

Thank you all for the suggestions and advise. I am going to look for some old CD’s (hopefully in decent shape), and see what I can find. I’m not overly worried about beat mixing the set really, it’s just getting enough music to play through the night as I am the only one playing that night. The crowd will be my age (old as hell!), but it should be a blast! Peter, I will see you on facebook shortly…

    Thanks again,

    Awesome,
Thanks for the advise. I will definitely use this tool in future mixtapes, (hopefully I won’t have to). Any other advise on how to use audacity, like for making a mash up or production would be great as well!

    Thanks Again,

VDJ Pro version does allow recording of your sets, there is a REC button on the tool bar which will record directly to your laptop music player…just for information when or if you decide to purchase the pro version of VDJ.

I appreciate the feedback, looks like I will just have to keep buying stem files when I can find them. Any ideas on DJ pools that have the best variety of stem files? I know Beatport has some, any others you know of?
