Just installed the demo of BeaTunes on the iMac and will test it out before installing on the DJ laptop.

The confusion comes from Traktor Pro and Traktor Scratch Pro being marketed and sold as separate programs even though they are identical in function with one just having DVS support. When someone new to Traktor comes in it’s hard to understand that there’s no upgrade option to Scratch form regular Pro. That couple with the multiple upgrade options for Scratch gets really confusing if you haven’t wrapped your head around the way NI does it.

As far as Duo for either version goes the comparison chart explains it well enough imo.

I’ve really been considering trying out beatunes, but I’m scared of messing something up in Traktor.

Thanks Phil. I spend quite a bit of time digging and putting stuff in crates and wish lists for later as I find them. That makes it easy when I need to buy stuff because I’ve already sorted through a bunch of stuff. I like to try and stick to an average of about half my shows being music that’s either new or new to me. Sometimes it’s more and sometimes it’s less, but just having that as a loose goal helps to ensure I don’t repeat songs for at least a few shows. That and my music collection is pretty well tagged an organized so it doesn’t take me long to go through and pick the rest of my show after I’ve bought what I’m going to buy.

The hard part is that I do all my shows live. The radio station is based out of the UK and the Saturday Soul shows are scheduled at 12 noon, which is 6 am here in sunny Texas. So I have to drag my self out of bed at 5:30 am, slurp down a couple of cups of coffee and attempt to connect to a streaming server while I’m still half asleep. Then after a little more coffee I start playing real records which for the most part is totally unplanned part of the set. I don’t know about you, but that much thinking, that early in the morning is a bit of a struggle for me. 🙂

The most fun I have is when I do my Extended Ride Along shows. Five hours of tunes kick started by two hours of Soul makes for a great start to the day.

How’s this for a track list? It’s amazing how well The Statler Brothers into the Violent Femmes and then a little later KISS into Nancy Sinatra work together.

    Thanks 😎

the way I test it is to load all the decks up and run all four FX channels. Lower the latency until you get pops then, raise it up to where you’re comfortable. I think I stopped getting pops around 11.6, but went up a tad more. I also have the mixer set at 44.1 khz.

Just curious, what is your latency setting ? I didn’t notice any clicks, popping or drop-outs when I was testing, but
Traktor’s CPU indicator seemed a bit higher than what I’m used to.

13.6, but I have it set a little high intentionally. I don’t do much if any kind of stuff that would require much lower. The way Traktor measures latency and the way the display shows it is completely different in 2 so you’ll see more movement in the meters than you did in 1.2.7, that’s normal.

I use lower than 320 quite a bit in VBR format. The thing to remember is there are other variables in the creating of the mp3 before the user even gets it that can affect the quality. A song with quality mastering may very well be able to go to a much lower bit rate and still sound good than a song with poor mastering.

I’m perfect so I ignore all criticism because those that offer it must be idiots!! 😉

All of the coming updates are on the NI forum. Elastic beat grids are not listed. I really think there’s more not listed because DJ Endo from dubspot posted that he’s been beta testing the latest update and it’s making him love playing with DVS again and Craze tweeted a few months ago that he just eft NI and has seen the future of DJ’ing. Craze’s Tweet MAY have been about the S2, but I think NI has something else up there sleeves.

    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72703

The update will include the following improvements:

    New / improved features:

    • Individual Keylock, FX Enable and Headphone Cueing for sample deck slots
    • Multi-core processor support
    • Automatic jogwheel calibration for Kontrol S2 and S4
    • New option for additional mixer headroom
    • ID3 v2.3 Tag compatibility
    • Option to disable Sample Auto-Save
    • Jump size display when hovering over stripe
    • Improved Setup Wizard

    Fixes

    • GUI tempo fader decoupled from Scratch and Tempo Bend
    • Pitch Bend behavior on stopped deck fixed
    • Cueing accuracy of CD timecode fixed
    • Core Audio sample rate matching fixed

This list is subject to change, and does not necessarily list all features and fixes that will be in the final update.
