Chris JenningsParticipant
What version of Traktor are you using and what’s your setup? Give us some more info and I’m confident we can get you going.
Chris JenningsParticipantNo, I tag stuff as I buy it so it’ll be done in a way that I’m sure to be able to understand it and it be correct.

In Traktor Pro 2 go to preferences>decks and switch a deck to sample deck.
I use the sample decks to bring back early parts of a mix towards the end of a set. Usually I’ll have an early recuring piece of percussion pop up throughout the set as well. This plus using it to transition out of one song and into another while still playing another. Makes the mix flow continue and frees up a main deck like Ryan said. The most I usually have going at once is usually two track decks and maybe 4 or 5 sample slots.
This is probably my best example of that.

😎
Chris JenningsParticipantAre you getting movement from the recording meters?
Chris JenningsParticipantI use Audacity, but if I had some extra cash I would use Audition I think. That said i’ve never really mastered my mixes.
Chris JenningsParticipantYou could als run 4 sample decks with 16 sample slots for some pretty interesting creating going on. The way I’ve got my X1 mapped it’s really pretty easy to change all of these decks on the fly to whatever size or flavor I want.

Have you noticed any changes with the automatic BPM / Beat detection algorithms? I play breaks, and Traktor often struggles to get even close. Also, does the higher definition mean it’s easier to manually beatgrid?I think starting with S4 the detection has been better. Not sure about breaks specifically, but the few tracks like that I’ve gridded have been pretty good from the start.
Chris JenningsParticipantI don’t use it but know i should so I would like some examples as well. I don’t really need how to’s on setting it up just how you use it.
Chris JenningsParticipantIf wifi and bluetooth are on and there’s nothing to connect to the MBP seems to pull lots of resources while searching. Check that those are turned off and that Time Machine is off if you use that.
Chris JenningsParticipantI just screwed up the results and clicked Traktor when I actually use T2. 😳
Chris JenningsParticipantBenny’s right on how the sample decks work. You can even use them with a two channel mixer since T2 lets you run the audio of two decks out of one channel. If you’re still on T1 the sample decks are more of a reason to switch than colored wave forms, but the colored wave forms are very nice to have imo. Plus the zoom in on the wave forms have made gridding songs a little easier on some of those tougher songs.
Chris JenningsParticipantDo you announce that it’s not your mix? I think if you’re the DJ and a mix is playing people are going to assume it’s your mix unless you tell them otherwise. I play other DJ’s remixes of single songs or edits of songs. I would never play another DJ’s mix of several songs and along the same lines I also don’t play others mashups. If I need a break I’ll play one of my own short mixes.

Lol, I’ve got the same deal going on there.
Chris JenningsParticipantDJ laptop has about 40 gigs on it. The family iMac has about 110 gigs last I looked.
Chris JenningsParticipantSennheiserHD25-1 II’s. Recently I’ve had Ultrosone Pro 650’s and Sony MDR 7506’s and the Senn’s win hands down!
