You need to chose the soundcard from the bcd2k in the settings on your laptop.
That shoul be described in the manual for the bcd2k……
Also the bcd2k has no support for windows7 64bit so you need to turn off 64bit if you run win7
Then you need to conect the bcd2k to some kind of soundsystem to get the master out you can not use the internal speakers in your laptop…..

Well as you say there are many to chose from.
If you want the same quality as the Pioneer setup you had then it is not as many.

If you want to come of cheap there is the Numark Mixtrack Pro
(all other low budget is not a good choice from what I’ve heard)

The Mixtrack pro is plastic has not as good buttons/knobs, short pitch, no balanced output, no mic in……
It is a very popular begginers controller….

Then there is the Pro DJ controllers.
It is important to chose what software you want to use…..

Denon MC6000 (I have this and do think it is the best) – Any SW but ITCH (Traktor VDJ)
    Numark NS6 – ITCH
    NI S4 – Traktor
Pioneer there is one for Traktor and one ITCH controller
Pio also soon comes with a new one that looks to be cheaper but I do not know if it’s ITCH or Traktor….

If you are used to the CDJ from Pio you will properbly like the Pio controllers
but you come of cheaper with the Denon.

I suggest that you go to a store and try them for yourself!

OK thank you for that reply, didn’t think about that 🙂
But then you must have the Serato soundcard (I tested SSL 3 and soundquality was really bad)
    and SSL SW ??

Sorry to hear about you HP-1000s!
I do not understand that, I have had mine for 4-5 years now playing every weekend and I have never broke mine.

If you want a pair of headphones that lasts I do think you should go for the Senhiser HD25 as they are proven to hold.

This is something you learn to deal with over time.
I sometimes get this kind of crowd….
The one thing to think about is to not to panic and play all your “secret wapon” at the beginning of the night.
That is what many beginners do wrong.
If they does not react at the first try, take a step back and play some tunes that is sueted but not the “secret weapon”
After an 30-45min try again with one “secret weapon” still no reaction, try again after an hour.
That has worked for me over the past 20 years.
Sometimes they just does not want to dance and then it does not matter what you do….

Surely a Dedicated Soundcard would be the Answer would it not ?

Quote ….So…do I really want to upgrade? And if so, should I go with one of these? What do I get other than less plastic and a more professional build? Is sound quality dramatically better with the more expensive controllers? Or am I just letting myself get carried away, fantasizing about all the different equipment I could potentially own?….
Sorry but that was not a question about just getting better sound IMO.

And getting an external soundcard that has the same or better soundquality as the MC6000 would not be much cheaper and also it would be one more thing to bring to the giggs.

    A tip:
If you do not use the keyboard you could get a 15″ or even bigger screan and plug into you 13″ MBP 🙂

    Emma!

    Thank you for the reply.

I might get Abelton a try to DJ with in the future.
For now I have chosen the Traktor2 scratch pro because it supports my gear in a good way.

I do not think that you can run Ableton with timecode?

Interesting article I will read it in depth, thank you 🙂

Phil Morse, post: 7153 wrote: Don’t worry too much about gear, or software. A good DJ can make Virtual DJ running on a laptop sing; A bad DJ can’t make jack happen on any combination. I personally think of the three (Traktor, VDJ, Serato), Traktor is the least friendly to use and thus it is not my choice – I’d DJ with Serato, VDJ, Traktor in that order. But having said that, I’d also DJ with vinyl, CDJs, iPods, someone’s stereo with a pile of old cassettes – it’s really not about the gear.

I do not agree on this!
Equipment and soundquality is very important to me!
Sometimes I get to DJ on venues that has old equipment that does not work properly.
The DJ booth is so small that my S3700/X1700 does not fit……
In most cases it is the awful Pioneer double CD players that has broken buttons so you have to push start button a few times to get them starting. Or they have American Audio CDs that if you put two identical CDs in slots and has pitch to zero and push start at both players at the same time they does not match. (I really do not like American Audio CDs)
In those cases I get irritated and nervous and I cannot mix as I can with good equipment Therefore I do not mix as good as I can do on my S3700/X1700. I have to think about the shortcomming of the equipment instead of what tune to play next! Also it lacks spinning platter so I cannot scratch and I just has not as fun as with good equipment.
If I do not have fun when I DJ it will affect the dancefloor. And I do only DJ foor the fun of it I do have a 9-5job Mon-Fri.
This is the reason why I bought a MC6000, to use where my S3700/x1700 does not fit, because I have now turned down many giggs because of this. If I know they have broken Pioneer equipment or American Audio CDs I say No thank you!

    Emma.
The beatgrid in Ableton will not work in Trakton or am I wrong?
I am correcting all the beatgrids that T2 has done wrong (about 100%)
At the same time I’m going through the lib. to get rid of tracks I do not want/use

The files that does not have constant BPM I will run in Aleton to get them constantif that is what you mean 😉
    (that is the next step)

    Thanks anyway 🙂

The Mixtrack pro is IMO the only lowbudget controller worth puting any money in.

I have been told by a retailer that he only takes in Mixtrack pro as a lowbudget controller
simply because the other low budget controllers just always hvae issues and simply does not work well.

The best thing is to go to store and test for yourself.

    Emma:

The Bitrate for analouge is endless.
A bit is a sample from the analogue sinuscurve.
    More info:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_bit_depth
Anything Digital is sampled from analouge and has therfeore not as good sound as analouge.
If you sing live or play an acustic instrument you can never reproduce that sound 100% with digital recording equipment.
(not with analouge equipment either in reality but in theory you could)

(That is why I think that CD sounds better than vinyl (in aDJ Setup)
Direct Drive TTs has a motor that rumbles and that sund comes into the Mic (Pic up)
The DJ needles has a lower frequence range than CDs and not sharp frequencerange.
The sound gets colored with the DJ eqipment on TTs. Some people think it sounds better
I do not like anything to colour the sound.)

If you have a CD that the best CDJ on the marked does not read then the CD is either in a very bad condition or
the Denon CDJ needs service because some stupid DJ has got it to drink Coca Cola 😉

And Yes a 320 CBR MP3 will proberbly satisfy your croud but that does not change the fact that the sound on a CD is clearly hearable better than on an MP3 320!

I for one would’t touch such a thing.
IMO it is better to look for a used twin player anything from Denon or maybee Pioneer.

Clayton Weimers, post: 7016 wrote: Hi guys. I’m a relative beginner. I started playing around with VDJ Home last year and finally decided to buy a Numark Mixtrack Pro back in May. Well, I’ve been playing with it all summer, and even did a couple parties (with many more planned) and have been having a blast.

However, I’m starting to wonder if I should upgrade. I’ve been looking a lot at Kontrol S4 and Denon MC6000. Both seem really cool. People have been telling me that I should switch to Traktor anyway, though.

So…do I really want to upgrade? And if so, should I go with one of these? What do I get other than less plastic and a more professional build? Is sound quality dramatically better with the more expensive controllers? Or am I just letting myself get carried away, fantasizing about all the different equipment I could potentially own?

Since I don’t really have any DJ friends, I’ve come to you guys!

IMO you shuld go for the MC6000 because the swap would no be so drastic for you.
MC6000 works very well with VDJ as well as it works very well with Traktor.
That is not the case on the S4 that is dedicated to Traktor.
S4 will work with VDJ but the layout is not so good and you will have to map it yourself if you cannot find
a mapping from some other that has that setup wich I do not think.
The MC6000 has steelchassie and S4 has plastic. Also the MC6000 has better hardware and lower price:-)
So you can use the MC6000 with VDJ and then think about if you want to swift to Traktor
And if you do you can use either SW 🙂

I did a test on my MC6000 wich I had running on my computer on Traktor Scratch Pro.
A friend (that has Mixtrack Pro) took his computer with VDJ on and it took less than 5 min to get it running with the MC6000. He had never used the MC6000, it took him about 10min to say “I want this”

I know three persons who has the MC6000 + me and all four of us is very happy with them (running on Traktor)
But the thing is that all we all reacted on how very good they sound!

IMO You shoul get to a store that has Mixtrack pro, S4 and MC6000 and listen for yourself if you can hear a drastic difference in sound. You will most deffinetly feel the difference in quality between the three. But if you feel and hear no difference you should hold on to your Mixtrack Pro…..
