Just a clarification, no affence ment by it but just so you get a grip of things:

Traktor is the name of a DJ software not gear!
Native Instruments is the company that makes the software called Traktor
and they also make the hardware you mentioned.
Native Instruments is often shortened to NI……

NI has a pricedrop on the S2 until 31/3 after that it will be more expencive.
So if you think about getting an S2 you better do it NOW!

IMO the Denon MC3000 is a better choice because it has a bit better quality and
is smaller + have some more functions. But until 31/3 it is more expensive…..

If you have the chance, compare them to QSC K12 before making your mind up.

I am very happy with my QSC K12’s and QSC K-Sub as they never let me down
New years eve I did a gigg in a place that takes +2000 persons and
I ended up playing in about no more than 50% volume on K12 and 25-30% on K sub

I had fun with the mixtrack pro but i want something that is a step up in build quality and features such as Gain Controls and possibly VU metering and booth out. Im not to bothered about sticking with VDJ, I WOULD MUCH RATHER THE controller decide which software I should use.

Just come to think of it… You could stick to the Mixtrak pro and add for examle an X1 fore more fuctions/creativity…..
And if you are not happy with VDJ Pro you could DL a testverion for free and see what you think of Traktor
I think Traktor is a bit better than VDJ when you are not a beginner as it is more flexible and you can rather easy do your own mappings……

The one that is provided in Traktor:

Or here is a lot of different mappings that might be what you want:

Well out of your budget I would strongly recommend a Mixtrak Pro over any of the other controllers you mentioned.
Hercules, Reloop and American Audio are all very low budget low quality IMO!

If you want a better controller than Mixtrak Pro from Numark you should get a better controller considdering quality and fuctions.

Then IMO there is Denon MC6000 Denon MC3000 Numark NS6 or Native Instruments S4 or S2
Those are IMO the top of the line controllers that has better quality.
The only low budget controller that has decent quality is Mixtrak Pro.

NI S2/S4 are more or less exclusive to NI Traktor so you have to run Traktor on those!
Numark NS6 is an ITCH controller so you more or less has to run ITCH on that
Denon MC6000 and MC3000 are good for any software (Traktor VDJ + more) except ITCH that is only bundlesd with certified controllers.

So you have to decide wich software to use b4 chosing controller or exclude Itch and get a Denon MC6000 or MC3000.
It comes with Traktor LE in EU and VDJ LE in US

PS NI S2 has reduced price until 31/3 -2012

Sorry my bad I did read the text too fast and did not notice the DJio part or that it was a soundcard 🙁
But will that soundcard really sound OK in a club PA??

That depends on if the mixer has a soundcard built in that is Traktor certified.
If it is then yes if not no…..

+1 to that! It is better to rent a pair of powered speakers.
QSC K series or Mackie are good but IMO you will be fine with any 12″ (or 15″) powered speakers with above 500W/speaker amp.

You will have to dl a .tsi file.
If it is a .zip or other you must unzip it….

Then you will have to find the map with .tsi files and put the new one in that map.

In settings of Traktor you will have to import the new .tsi

    Restart Traktor.

    Done.

As this is a Digital DJ Forum you might have asked this question on the wrong site.

But I will try to help you as good as I can as I come from vynyl myself.

    The Technics 1200/1210 MkII http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technics_SL-1200
    is considdered industry standard TT’s.
As pansonic has layed down the production of them it will be hard finding new ones.
On the other hand they are build like tanks and lasts for a lifetime so it is not so dangerous to buy used ones.
That is what I recommend because of the proven built as a tank quality.

There are a few things that the 1200/1210 MkII lacks that newer more modern TT’s have nad that is
reverse, digital out, stronger motor and so on.
    Vestax http://www.vestax.com/v/products/catagoly.php?cate_id=5#prod_list5
    and Stanton http://www.stantondj.com/turntables.html
are also good TT’s but you do have to get direct drive
NOT BELT DRIVE they are no good for DJing.

The most common and IMO best needles are
    Ortofon http://ortofon-dj.com/
    and Shure http://www.shure.com/europe/products/phono/index.htm

in reply to: External HD vs Internal Laptop Drive for music storage? #1003317

First off you are right in playing music from internal HDD in first place.
And to have a backup at home constant updated is a must!
Your laptop can not only crash, but it can be stolen so that is a must IMO!

The best way to keep a copy with you should be to store it in a USB drive.
Do you need 150GB music ?? (I have now less than 60Gb and it covers from the 50s untill todays EDM all genres.)
I do on the other hand not see why it would help you top bring the extra HDD or USB stick if your laptop failed??

If I was to play on giggs with my Denon MC6000 i would have a couple of mixtapes on my iPhone and cable ready to plug it in direct to MC6000 if something went wrong with my laptop……

Do you not have a controller that can take external soundsources??
Then you should get a cable (or splitcable) so that you can plug in an external soundsource (mp3 player or phone) direct to the PA or mixer that you connect your controller to IMO.
That way you can reboot your compouter without the music stopping for more than a few sec.

The reaction does not come from any of those elements IMO
It comes from a combination of those + more and an athomsphare that you build up
durting the night as a good DJ.
You can not take away Beat or Rythm and IMO neather vocal, Not for a whole night anyway.

in reply to: Moving Music on Mac #1003315

Well in Mac you are free to put your files anywhere you want and move them around.
You can even move a file that is currently playing (within the same HDD)
or move it to the paiperbin!
I think you come from the more locked PC where you are not as free as on Mac?

I have my music organised in folders but you really do not need to if it is tagged.

    Like this:
    50/60
    70
    80
    90
    00
    10 New

    And in that folders:
    pop
    rock
    hardrock
    house
    house 70 80 rem¨
    house 90 rem
    house world
    R&B
    Hip-hop
    And so on…..

When I get new music i put them in the right folders while i listen to them
If it is much music I export an excell file from my taging program and sort them to folders using that info.

It is timeconsuming and if you do not need it you could just put all files in a hdd or in a folder.
