    Your Statement:
“Is sound quality dramatically better with the more expensive controllers?”
    Can Only be Answered with a Resounding “No”;
    The Only Way you will get a ‘Dramatically Better Sound Quality’ is with a ‘More Expensive Sound Card’;
    If you have the Money To Spend (and Wish to Spend It – Then Spend It :));
However; if you have been Gigging and ‘Having A Blast’; my Question Would Be ‘Why Upgrade?’
    The Denon Does Look Fantastic; and Traktor is (Known As) the Industry Standard (for DJ Software Programmes);
    But with just 30 Effects I would Hardly call it the Best DJ Tool;

This Statement is Just My Personal Opinion 😉

Sorry to say I do not agree on this
Soundquality is better on S4 and MC6000 because there are better soundcards in those controllers!
Dramstic better is from ear to ear, but in my ears there is a big difference.
Also The MC6000 has a much better buildquality and better hardware all the way.
    Better knobs,buttons and so on.
MC6000 also has a hardware mixer so that you do not use the internal mixer in the software
and that makes the sound better as well. NI S4 does not have that!

Most controllers will work for any type of music.

“Top of the line” controllers will work better for any type of music.
Controllers without jogwheels (NI X1 for example) has no ability to scratch.
Top of the line controllers works better to scratch with.
To use “top of the line” tabletop CDs as controllers is even better for scratching.
To use “top of the line” tabletop with rotating platter (Denon S3700) as controllers is the best.
For scratching TTS with timecode is the best but they cannot be used as controller.
    Top of the line controllers:
    Denon MC6000
    Numark NS6
    NI S4
    Pioneers 2 controllers

    Top of the line tabletops:
    Denon S3700
    Pioneer CDJ 2000/900

There is on the otherhand some people that think that it differs in choice of software:
Scratchaholics, R&B Hip-Hop Rap…. That kind of music choses Rane Serato With timecode
EDM (House techno trance) choses Traktor (in EU) or VDJ (In US)
That is ruffly what I know anyway.

I hope this is of help 🙂

    Well yes and no.
You are better of buying a better controller (nat that the Mixtrack is bad I hope you know what I mean)
And if you don’t have the budget or if you really like your Mixtrack then you are better of adding the X1
to use as another unit for 4x efx/ampleslots/Deck3/4 and so on…..so that you can skip the keyboard.
    But that is my oppinion….

I have tested my hearing a while ago and am happy to have hearing behind what normal people can hear (30-48Khz)
But not so happy when people keeps telling me that there is no difference in sound from CD to MP3
because I can really tell the difference. I have done blindtests.
On my equipment (seen below) and my Genelec speakers I have at home I for one can hear a rather big difference.
And MP3 takes away much in the lowest and highest overtones register if I recall it right (that is what I can hear)

I agree it is a good sales pitch but on the other hand I do think that it is good products he sells.
I woldn’t mind playing my sets on them.

    Now I’m getting confused?

You are tempted to buy X1 because of the free SW that you already has??
It does not sum up to me….. Please explain!

    To answer your Q:
I think that it is better to use a X1 than to use the keyboard of the computer.
But no as good as a “real” controller.
The lack of jogwheels and pitchslider is the rason for my argument.

I am also intrested to buy an X1 but just to have as extra buttons to use with sampleslots and 4fx units.

As for cases to thr MC6000, I bought mine from germany:
    http://www.thomann.de/gb/magma_dj_controller_mc_6000.htm
But I know Denon has just got their own case. I cannot find any info abut it yet but take a look at:

You will need some software to do machups/remixes.
I recommend Ableton Live For machups/cut and past in music.
It is the best program for timestretching and most remixers/mashupmakers uses this
Ableton Live is also a very good program to make megamixes/mixtapes with.

For beatmaking I recommend Reason, it is a very good sequencer prog and almost 100% of EDM producers uses it.

And for music production if you will make your own music from scratch I recomend
    Rason + Cubase or Logic

You will also need a good computer (Mac) and a usb keyboard….

I use a combination of Ableton live/Reason/Cubase/Logic all of them and a lot of plug ins.
Unfortionaly I have all this and A MacPro and Keyboard but not the time 🙁
It is very timeconsuming (is that an english word) to produce music……

If you type in the word “acapella” in google you will find out that there is some free stuff and some that you can buy.
When there was CDs on the CD singles there often was acapella and instrumental.
As for beats you can do the same but the word “instrumental”.
You can use instrumentals or make your own beats…..
Soundbanks for making your own beats depend of what SW you use.
But can be baught online or in stores.
    Hope this will help you……

I hope it works well for you in the future,
I feel your frustration when it does not work right out of the box!
That is the main reason why my studio/musicroom is a Mac only area nowdays 🙂

I Would start by taking away the S4. Because NS6 & MC6000 both has mixers that can be used without computer and the only advantage the S4 has is that the layout is very good for Traktor SW.
In NS6 and MC6000 you have a back up if the computer crashes or you have to restart. Also NS6 has better buid quality while Denon MC6000 has even better buidquality. NS6 is buit and bundled together with Itch and if you want another SW you pay for Itch and do not use it together with that the layout is not so good for other SW. Denon MC6000 has a layout that works very well with Traktor, VDJ and SSL. I have tested with all three it works very well The MC6000 works with any SW but I have not personally tested it with other than the three above.
People that says that the MC6000 is cramped between the button has proberbly not tested the unit for more than 5min.
That was the time it took me before I changed my mind in that point and forget about it.

I have three friends that has the MC6000 and we all four of us love our units 🙂

I stronly recommend that you think about what SW you will use and then test all units in a store yourself.

Stephen Carter, post: 6786 wrote: Cheers guys,

As sacrilegious as it may sound, I really like the look of that new Stanton SCS.4DJ controller. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but’s it’s a third of the price of NS6/laptop combo and comes in a neat portable package.

I’ll check them all out at bpm.

    KTF,

    Steveo.

From what I’ve seen and heard from polite sources this is a good pice of plastic.
It is stabile and everything works as supposed to but the gripe is that it feel a little plastic.
The price on the other hand is nice:-)
It is a very good thing to get rid of the laptop and still have all the advantages of digital mixing I think.
I wuld must likely buy one if I haven’t had my MacbookPro and Denon MC6000.

Here is one way to do it:
Buy a converter to convert from what you have on your output on your soundcard to XLR.
You might not get balanced between soundcard and subwoofer if you don’t have a soundcard with balanced out
This should not be a problem if you don’t need very long cables to connect the subwoofer, try to get the subwoofer near your soundcard and as short cables as possible. Then XLR from Sub to top speakers.
BTW My soundcard (M-Audio Fasttrack Pro) does have balanced XLR out…..

That was a really fun video, big up to that 🙂
But I think that we have a smaler unit developed in Sweden where you actualy can beatmix, 3band EQ, efx, and I do think that you even can scratch on it. Of cause I talk about the Tonium Pacemaker:
