    Good points Chuck.
May I add, don’t let your nervousness get the better of you.
My first gig I was nervous as hell but within 15 minutes I warmed up to it and welcomed it and got past it.
Always expect for things to go astray but always be determined to overcome it.
    Best of luck! -cRave

So my FIRST EVER CLUB/BAR GIG, I told the manager that I wanted to try an EDM night and he said that’s fine. So me having no rap music I download about 30 songs just for back up because that’s what they mostly play, Top 40 and Rap/Hip-Hop. So I get there at 10 and he lets me hook up my stuff, the night goes on people come in I’m going through playing electro-house, progressive house, trap, dubstep and 1 or 2 hardstyle songs. People are coming up to me “damn, you need to come up here on the weekends when it’s really packed” its a pretty good time so far… then 12:30 hit….. *dun dun dun* sloppiness comes… “can you play some drake?” I do. (Worst mistake ever-never take requests) i play some requests and continue into my EDM set.. then the owner comes by, “my N***a you got some Zro? lil wayne? webbie any rap? *no, i only have like 30 songs and already played that* what? *i said no* well play something else instead of this gay s*it” At that moment my headphones completely stopped working, trainwreck, trainwreck, trainwreck after finding more rap songs. My heart dropped and I just wanted to pack up and go right there, but I didn’t. It was 1:30ish so I stuck it out, we talked after and he invited me back again he said give him a call/text. So I did a week later and he said No, we only want Top 40 and Rap. Oh well, I did what I could with him and that bar/club.

Also, make sure the songs are in “key” (on the same key note or note compatible with it)
you can use Mixed in Key or Rekord Box

But I’d go with 900s just because they “1 up” the 850s.

I use other people’s CDJs whenever I can, I know so many people with them that I can call them up and ask to practice with them so on and so on.. you actually shouldn’t have to buy any unless you just want some. Practice off everyone else’s because most clubs usually already have CDJs that you’re able to use.

Here’s some info that was given to me a while back when I was first DJing from one of the top DJs in the DFW area:

Alright so basically the general idea to drop a track is on the last drop. Normally songs have about a 30second intro and outro. So they typically lineup and produces a smooth transition. Now honestly your welcome to drop it anytime but since its on a 4 count, drop the 2nd track on the 1st count
Alot of your transitions you had beats clashing on top of one another. Just need to work on your beat matching a little more, making sure you cut the bass out more so you dont hear them slamming against each other.
Volume is a simple fix, when your bringing in the track that you plan on mixing, need to pay attention to the levels
Here’s a easy tutorial on how to work on mixing:
Cut the bass to the track your bringing in, let it rid halfway then slowly bring it up to level 8 (out of 10). Have the High n mid cut half down so maybe around the 9/10pm mark if that makes sense.

Then slowly trade the highs in each song, doing the same with mids, n slowly start doing the same with bass as the last thing.
So the ideal is to have the bass of the 1st song w/ minor highs or mids then the 2nd song with highs/mids n slowly the basses faded for one another to produce a smooth mix of 1 sound to another.

You should be able to achieve that sound with the filter in Traktor, I’ve done it before but can’t really remember exactly how…. Just mess with the hi pass and low pass and how “wet/dry” it is.. and how much you put towards the effect.

    Beatmatch
    simple really.
i also learned about looking at the seconds..
electro-house 128bpm usually “drops” at 1:00 or 1:07 and the second drop is usually around 2:30 (dont really pay attention anymore) how i mix it is i start the second song at the start of the second drop and usually(not all the time) it’ll transition well either from the end of the drop to the beginning of the break down (song 2) or end of the drop to the start of the drop (song 2) depending on the key…
trap and dubstep are a little harder..
but the key thing to remember is beat match.. usually 16 bars/counts then its something different a drop is usually 32 bars
a breakdown is usually 8 bars and intro can be from 32-64 bars…this is house/electro

Is there a certain menu that you have to go to, to “auto-analyze” your tracks in traktor? If there is I haven’t found it and I’ve been doing it manually (dragging and dropping into the decks) for over 3k tracks now 🙁

DjDemonick: the rave scene is picking up in SA & Austin, but its HUGE in Dallas(about 4+ hours away from SA). You’ll find rave events about once a week down there, that I know of. I live in Waco about 3 hours away and I hear about it.

    Welcome Toxcidic!

in reply to: Is counting to 8 instead of 4 in your beat counting wrong? #36910

I usually do 8 count.. but, in college i was taught to do
    1,2,3,4
    2,2,3,4
    3,2,3,4
    4,2,3,4
    repeat.
Now that I’m starting to use CDJs more often I still use the 8 count or listen for the 2nd “drop” and then play the next track as it usually ends up in time with each other
