yes it would be the i5 version of the lenovo

i have a 120gb samsung ssd in my tower that is only for producing. and is seperate from the main drive which has windows and other software installed. the drive is dedicated to producing, with only ableton installed on it and related samples etc.

i also have a 64gb iirc installed in my current laptop.

one will be moved to the new laptop.

i can easily get some more memory (which i intend to do) the lenovo g510 has 2x8gb memory slots.
there are 2 local suppliers i use for parts.

ive never had a gig outside of home, although i have taken my laptop places but not regular at all.

i broadcast online on video stations, streamed from my tower pc.

the laptop i want to do both ableton live 9 full, but not suite and also run traktor at the same time. which will be using my xone4d soundcard.
as long as it does that, then itll do anything else i would want it to do.

as long as it is clear enough to see traktor / ableton live, then full hd doesnt matter. although i have a second monitor i can use if i wanted a bigger view.

I know nothing about apple laptops.

if the file system is like iOS, then I don’t want to bother.

plus I know and can tame a windows computer without any help. I’m tech support for the family.

apples OS I have not got a clue about.

I might use the laptop for other things…

I am only using my existing one for Traktor as it is not sufficient to do more with it, which is the reason for a new laptop.

Not really any particular titles anymore, but that is what started me off buying vinyl.

There is one store i go to in manchester just to look through what they have and see if there is anything worth getting.

I just thought id do the same in London as I have the opportunity.

the cue selected is what you hear, plus the main output… the ammount of which is that cue / mix control.
so you hear both in the headphones.

    what genres are you playing?

simple rule to follow is balance them out to keep consistent volume, unless you want a melody or vocal to linger on through a mix.

    I play trance (uplifting)

    I hope this makes sense.

what I do is roughly this, but I do break from this if it would work better…

with an existing track all at 12o’clock bring the mids and highs up of the incoming till you can hear them, and the from that point you need to take out the mids and highs out to compensate for the incoming, which you get to 12o’clock

then I would change the bass (a complete swap from nothing to 12o’clock and 12o’clock to nothing on outgoing track)
then it’s just a case of fading the outgoing track, or cutting it completely when you change the bass
changing the bass is “The Drop!”

you can also use the channel fader, and have already set the initial positions of the eqs.

each stage of the mix is timed to suddenly change on the 1st beat of a 32 or 64 beat phrase or to fade in by then.(in the case of trance… other genres would vary ie hip-hop, which is almost a 1 bar transition.)

for some videos on this: Johnathan aka DJ Tutor / ellaskins has some good ones up.
search on youtube for “ellaskins eq”

traktor streams the audio out to mixify.

nothing to do with your soundcard.

I have traktor running seperate on my laptop, and I use butt, and Adobe Flash Media Encoder (FME) on my main computer to take the  feed from my mixer and web camera.

FME video to livestream.com based stations, and butt to mixify.

mixify uses either direct from traktor, or butt (butt.sourceforge.org) which are the best options of them

    it runs icecast

best way is to do a private event on mixify to test your setup.

    3.5mm jacks are fine.

as long as the broadcasting software can use the source.

test the input, as you can record locally the input using “BUTT” as well as broadcasting to Mixify.

if the recording sounds good, then you are ok to go.

    What is your setup?
    What genre(s) do you play?

    Do you have a webcam?

The stations I play on are always looking for DJs to play.

any more help… just ask away.

The levels in Ableton are set correctly. (one of the first things I checked.) it’s just the input to the xone4D that is low.

the soundcard is a focusrite Saffire 6 using usb 2

what I meant by pre-amp above, was that the output of the soundcard is amplified with a strong enough signal, before it is fed to the mixer.

ok… this is how I have it setup now.. ignore the original post. I was unsure how to set it up back then a year ago.

Laptop running Traktor connected to Allen & Heath Xone:4D
Pair of Technics 1200 decks with timecode vinyls to control Traktor on laptop via the Xone:4D

My desktop tower is running Ableton Live 9, and broadcasting programs.
The tower has the external soundcard which I’m talking about, with the output to my mixer (line in on mixer channel)
the level on the soundcard output to the mixer is not strong enough, so for the channel on the mixer that the soundcard goes to, it has to be amplified quite a lot. (gain level up)

I also use the soundcard for grabbing the audio from the monitor out, to the tower to broadcast.

budget I haven’t mentioned, as I want to know the cost of ones that will do the job properly for me., then I can decide.

Pre-amp is only so I don’t have to have the mixer channel amp turned up as much as it currently has to be for the focusrite. (it being set at 5 O’clock or above)
