Choose a simple, cool, name you like. That’s my opinion, I just took on the name DJSpin for now, its simple, and it sounds nice.

Buy a controller, if you are beggining., I would reccomend the Mixtrack Pro, great price, great performace. You could buy something better if you have the money, of course the gear you buy will be more proffesional. But if you are starting, mixtrack pro would do great things for you, and will get you started amazingly, after you learn, buy your CDJs.

BUY THE MIXTRACK PRO, I can’t tell you if its can play with ableton but anyways it brings Virtual DJ LE Software bundled with it so it brings you a great begginers software, actually almost any laptop would be fine, of course if you need to move it or to play better, etc there are better laptops, but to just run the software and learn, any laptop will do, at least for people within a budget.

Forget Ableton for the moment. Trust me I want a lot of things, including Ableton, but that’s not what I need. There is a big difference. Numark N4 is released in January I think, you’re very confused for when it comes to this… You should ask someone to explain it slowly with details.

When I began DJing it was because of a hip-hop DJ which I saw recently on youtube. Look him up -DJ ANOMOLY- I like him because he makes Hip-Hop mixes in the Numark Mixtrack Pro just to help begginers, He also has videos on his real setup which are a couple of technics and a mixer, he makes hip-hop mixes, but I think he is only a bedroom DJ.

I didn’t understand the setup you described at the beggining (Audio 6, Ableton and Traktor). But if you’re starting I would definitely reccomend a controller to get the hang of mixing and then buy ableton and all that gear like the Akai APC40 which is one of my favorites btw. If you have a laptop then you’re done, to begin you only need the controller, a laptop and some headphones, possibly a audio interface depending on the controller you buy, most now a days come with the audio interface included. I agree with DJ Hane K about the Numark N4. Ableton is for making music, if that’s what you want, I would reccomend saving more money since you said your money is tight. You don’t wanna start bad believe me. You should make a list of what you want, get a price, and save that amount of money.

Depends on the gig you are. It’s not the same, a party of a 10 year old, then some 20 year olds. And weddings are a whole other thing. When it comes to small kids parties there is no problem just ask the kid who made the party: What would he prefer to listen at the party? That’s what I usually do, but I’ve only played at 2 small kids parties (like 12 year olds). When you do it of course don’t make it sound like your stupid and unproffesional. I dont know if thats wrong, but to me the kids answer with no problem, since they are kids it doesn’t matter, it’s not like they need a proffesional DJ. Of course you can’t do this at weddings cause they will think you are retarded lol. You shouldn’t change genres so quickly that people don’t even get a chance to enjoy it, mostly you should stick with 3 main genres no more. Where I live (venezuela) its mostly House & Electro, Reggaeton and Merengue. Depends on what people like where you live, just think when you go to parties what do you listen to. Of course you can put other genres but change them more often than you do with the main ones. For example: In your country they listen to House, Pop and Hip-Hop, but at one moment you put Oldies, people might like it or people might not, anyways you shouldn’t let it play to much, always stick with the 3 basics.
When you get hired, check the age of the guests: Kids don’t wanna hear oldies or whatever, they wanna listen to new stuff, stuff they can dance to, have a good time, they are just kids. When it goes from 16year olds up it gets different, cause these go crazy, they dance all night, love banging house music and when alcohol is involved they can go crazy even more. The size of the party also matters, I have played sometimes with my friends who DJ (while they go eat or chill out), but this is at reunions where almost no one dances (you could also put dance music for people to come and dance or just listen to it since its good music), people just talk and chill out if you know what I mean. It’s not the same as some girl’s sweet sixteen. Which usually are pretty big. That’s a big change of scenario.

Sorry, I could only help you with parties, I’ve never mixed at weddings although i’ve been to many. All I can tell you about weddings just by analizing my moments there is that Weddings change constantly, because at some point people want to hear oldies, at other points they want to go crazy and dance because they are happy they just got married, etc. and at another point some want to dance slow with their partner, etc. Also depending on the wedding time, you could spread the genres as you please. In my country wedding parties last from 8pm to 6 in the morning the next day LOL people dance all night long, getting drunk, they’re happy dancing, drinking, etc. At some countries, weddings are in plane day, just some big lunch with old and slow dancing music. My country is probably very different from yours when it comes to parties and music. So I dont know if its the same there, here this is how it goes. -SP!N

Thats what I was saying, you should check the product before buying it, can you even get a warranty from a used product? Maybe the product is in great shape, but I dont know if its just me, I tend to stay away from used equipment. I would just save up some more money and buy a brand new piece of equipment.

People love the twitch, I kinda hate the idea of a touch strip. What is it with that thing? The twitch might be the best controller in the world or whatever but I dont understand why not add jogwheels? Most people are very fond of jogwheels, its the classic DJ thing. Sure vinyl is going away and digital DJing is taking over but jogwheels will stay the same. This strip idea is really stupid to me, and it probably cost more the Novation people also to use those touch technology. So mostly is everybody loses with that jogwheel/touchstrip issue. I don’t like the twitch, probably never will. ITS JUST MY OPINION. Everyone can say his opinion right? That’s mine.

Haven’t gotten it, ordered it to the Denver GuitarCenter already probably will get it someday this week, they sell all the DJ stuff, also buying the RedWave there. I’ll check on their website if it comes with Traktor or Virtual DJ, although the original Mixtrack Pro mostly comes with VDJ LE.
