I’m surprised at how anti-sync this thread has turned out given the nature of this website. I have no problem with sync, sometimes use it and sometimes don’t. If you get satisfaction out of beatmatching by ear, go for it, and if you feel you can do more with it enabled then use it.
One thing I absolutely agree with though is that it’s a vital skill to have.

Agreed. The UK law changing to make the ProDub licence defunct is a big step in the right direction imo.
fullenglishpintMemberI’m hoping for good things from the new itunes match (http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/), I should be able to upgrade all my old 128kbps collection (everything I spent weeks ripping from CD, ie most of my non edm collection) to 256kbps. Pretty cool.
fullenglishpintMemberI keep my DJ set separately on my SSD and at the moment it’s running at around 25GB. That’s all music that I’d be happy to play, from many different genres. My iTunes library has more than double that, but I’m using iTunes less and less and really ought to archive all that old stuff somewhere that isn’t on my laptop!
fullenglishpintMemberthe gain might be turned all the way down in the recorder. Check that the VU meters are showing a reading in the mix recorder itself.
fullenglishpintMemberyeh, a maschine would be nice, but I don’t think I’d get the most out of it. I have a Trigger Finger which does the job.
fullenglishpintMemberGotta agree, I wouldn’t ever play another DJ’s mix. It may very well be awesome, but that just serves to make me aspire to be as awesome.
fullenglishpintMemberColoured, hi def waveforms. Love em. i was one of the first to upgrade cos I happened to be off work sick on the day it was released 😀
fullenglishpintMemberNice vinyl sleeve as well hehe 😀
fullenglishpintMemberVery nice! Isn’t it a bit annoying having everything so far apart though? I guess you’re used to it. Like your desk.
fullenglishpintMemberI think D-Jam had it earlier on. Final Scratch was first, but it was flawed, and Serato bought the first truly usable DVS system to the market. Traktor has come on leaps and bounds in the intervening years, but Serato have always had that foothold of being ‘industry standard’ in the US, at least until relatively recently. I think Serato’s dominance has waned though. I’m not saying it’s going down, just that fewer places are going to have SL boxes as permanent installs.

Phil, if you haven’t got time and you need someone to do it for you, you know where to send it my man!
fullenglishpintMemberWhat a fantastic article!!!
fullenglishpintMemberThursday night was great, had a San Joan party for about 20-25 people on my friend’s rooftop terrace and the 2 of us played back to back for about 7 hours straight, starting with hip hop, going into french house through every subgenre of electro and ending up with a killer dubstep sesh at the end. Then we headed down to the beach where the whole of Barcelona was out partying at the chiriguitos and stayed there until the sun was up.
Good times 🙂

I do like a bit of Umek once in a while. Room filling sound.
