in reply to: How important do you think it is to mix in key? #1008084

( i learn music and scales since 8 yrs old …etc before even imagine been a Dj )

mixing in key is essential for me , i do it natural now i dont spend extra energy to do it , of course with practice and practice then practice 🙂

mixedinkey helps alot in that , so im not thinking musically what scale every song and wasting time, and i know where the scales dont match even if it should be according to software , there where i can spot a false reading of key , but its rarely happend to me
of course after loading the song in Deck B i listen just 5secs to make sure it key matched then Spin the Mix
talking about it can sound complicated , but it veery simple if you understand the mechanics of music

its not about the simplicity of a transition or how stupid it is or how easy from a dj perspective
its about how people receive it …if they like it so what 😀 ,

average listeners never care about how its done , but how it sounds .. because they dont know shit about djing and they dont want to know PERIOD .

a personal advice i give ” NEVER EVER LISTEN TO ANOTHER DJ’s CRITICS about how you should do somth IN GIG, NEVAA!!!!! especially inside GIG ” , but listen for people who pay the tickets and buy the freaking drinks , thats the whole point

yeaah this transition is plausible 🙂 , bcz playing to people verry different from playing to yourself , and playing to yourself alot leads you to build those not necessarily true GOLDEN RULES that says ” THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE ……..”

for me this transition is good only when the next track is VERY good and the public already know and LOVE ! its a musical orgasm to party people

from my experience , the 20-30 sec mix , it can be boring especially to younger audience
they want to be surprised and entertained and have those moments where audience dont know whats the next track till it hits BOOM

i noticed like 60-70% get bored of a song after the first played ( verse + chorus )
and i noticed that if you do a 30 sec transition and people already know whats coming next , they get bored in the transition waiting for the song

the audience im talking about is the TOP 40 audience

Paid or not u should get it done 😉

your main music in this gig should be Top 40 anything Chart hits Old and new , ( by old i mean 5 yrs back )
    + your local radio’s hits
don’t worry much about mixing it comes .. your priority should be Songs selecting and good programing
Maybe some Hip Hop , and be sure to have some personal fun of EDM by throwing Top40 remixes
some good pop songs ( not remixed ) and make sure to have some slow tempo songs if there’s couples 😀

Don’t be afraid to surprise them with some unpredictable songs ( like some old Disco hit or Humpty dance )

i see that u use Traktor , well get all your gig songs analyzed .. Cued and ready to be played easily 😉
Don’t go hit after hit .. boring 😀
don’t take rocket science .. its all fun in the end.. and most don’t know sh** about Djing

    Have fun

actually i think you both did a good start

for the next gig , tell the peeps that comes to your previous gig to tell more people in their social circles , ( word of mouth .. social networks …etc)

and keep promoting ur thang in your facebook/twitter always and dont spam people with messages every now and on

    keep it siple but constant

More flyers in different spots this time
if u need to know more , i’l be glad

dont care bro , all radios i think goes by 128Kbps or lower , i heard some radios i think 22 Khz
because when you lower quality , the transmition go faster to the listener , if its internet radio , everybody can hear good even the people with slow internet
and it doesnt sound bad to average listener , and when its a little bit bad they condisder its radio

you do know its not better cz u’v listened to the high quality version and also ur ears are trained

Dont care bro , go ahead with your show 😀

yeah and get a better software

yeah but for me i’l will be excited if i can use it somhow to make Visuals on gigs , like tracking people who dance and simulate them all in a big screen where they see themselves like cartoons but doing same movments , would be crazy for drunk guys 😀 haha

    Agree with DurtyJerzy609

you should do this and take this oportunity , maybe this gig will be important for them if only her brother plays a bit lol

dont leave him annoying you all the gig , give him a Limited time , like opening or somthing , and be sure of what been said above , equipment not cheap and not everybody can buy

Hey guys thank you for the reply :d

my real problem is not reading the crowd , or banging the dancefloor , i think i do that prety good and naturally
, i have alot of Good music choosen track by track , im a kind of perfectionist.
but the real problem is , i like alot of this music that is overwhelming for me to choose from and be exact
4 Hours gig needs 60 – 80 to 100 tracks , and when im starting to choose it like im doing my last gig and going to die :p looool
( what if i needed that track , what if i left those , names of tracks i cant remember )

i just want to find a method to play from 4 – 5 Playlists
cz when you know everything where it is and whats in what , you can be creative then

i remember a small gig i had , when i know exactly what song i need in what moment , somtimes even mashups comes to my head and i can throw them live , but i couldnt find them or remember their name and was like shit , but i did good 😀 improvising
