Klaus MogensenParticipant
I believe there was a known crossfader bug in Serato DJ. I’m not sure if it’s fixed in the newer versions. Have you tried searching their forums?

Klaus MogensenKlaus MogensenParticipantADJ is a great place to look for cheap lightning. And they are actually getting better and better IMO
If you choose to buy more high-end used lighting, I would still go with LED lightning. They are simply so much easier to handle, because you don’t have to worry about them getting heated, wait for them to cool down after the gig or handle them with so much care doing transport. I have a handfull of old lightbulp based effects that are basically retired and simply sits on a shelf at home – even though some of them are Martins

Klaus MogensenParticipantThere should be a small fine issued when DJ’s pretend to turn knobs, or turn knobs that has no effect on the sound. It’s just stupid.
If you are not doing anything because the mix, breakdown, drop or whatever is already in the tune, then don’t pretend to be. Dance around a little, smile, enjoy yourself, interact with the audience. But don’t pretend to be doing a hard-core mix when you are not doing anything

Klaus MogensenParticipantIn short: No
It’s a nice add-on when it’s possible, but way down the list for me compared to choosing the right tune, making good transitions and so on

Klaus MogensenParticipantI’m thinking there must be more.
The news you mentioned (whic is the same ones I’ve seen) are on controller and mixers. But what about PA and DJ lighting. There’s got to be news in those areas…

In clubs/bars: Always be polite, but never let them get the upper hand. They may input, but you deside. Never the other way around
Also… and this may sound silly… Make sure you look like you can take care of yourself… You are working in the night life after all, and sometimes things get a little out of hand. So hitting the gym and learning some self defence techniques is never a bad ide. I find that looking the part helps in the way that requests are always asked in a polite manner, espeially from guys. And it also enables you to help out the bouncers for a few critical seconds, if they are in the other end of the room when things turn bad

Phil explained this back in April:

… still exiting though!

KlausKlaus MogensenParticipantRegarding you question on Virtual Dj: Yes both controllers are natively mapped within Virtual DJ, so they will both work fine
I pesonally own both the MTP (the original) and the MC3000 (the big brother to MC2000), and if they are any indication, the Denon seems better build than the MTP.
But they are both fine, and both great with VDJ. So I would look at the layout of the two controllers, and let that be a major part of my decision. I would probably choose the MC 2000, because it’s has specific buttons for hot cues, effects and loops – on the MTP 2 they are shared/layered. But if you want to play with mapping the yourself, the MTP 2 layout may suit you better.

Klaus MogensenParticipantHello
I can’t really comment on the Punjabi vs Hindi music since none of it is played in Denmark. But it’s not so uncommon that the person that booked you for a mobile gig changes his/her mind regarding the choice of music during the gig. In that case I always try to accommodate the new wishes as much as possible, because when it’s a mobile gig I basically think of it as playing for the people that booked me
Regarding volume I always try to keep it as low as possible for the occasion. Someone will always want the volume at a different level than it is, and some may tell you, so don’t feel bad about it. I consider it a succes if more people want it higher than lower. In any case I normally adjust the volume when requested, regardsless if they want it’s higher or lower, and then slowly return it to the appropriate levelover the next few songs
… and congratulation on a first gig well done, BTW 🙂

Klaus MogensenKlaus MogensenParticipantI actually try to avoid the deep bass in the headphones.
The room is already full of loud bass, and it’s usually really “muddy” where the DJ is placed, so anything but the deep bass helps me mix
Klaus MogensenParticipantFrom the people that booked me: Up to a 150 (which was twice as much as possible to play)
From a regular guest: No more than three, in which case I’ve told her to pick one (more than one request at the time seems to always be from girls…)

I can’t seem to find any for sale except the terminal 4 at guitar center online shop. Even google doesn’t turn up any results for buying the jockey 3 remix.
If you live in the US:
http://www.amazon.com/Reloop-Jockey-III-Master-Edition/dp/B004YZLLAUKlaus MogensenParticipantI arrange by genre, using playlists/crates (different software, different name).
But it’s not just music genres like Hiphop or Rock. It may be for diffent event types, different feels and so on.
Some songs are in multiple listsI mostly do mobile DJ’ing, and move through the lists doing the night (5-6 hours) – and use the search function to quickly get to a song thats not in the current list (like a request or something i suddenly figures out I wan’t to play)
I then evaluate the night, and continue to add and remove songs to/from my mostly used playlists/crates for future gigs

Klaus MogensenKlaus MogensenParticipantI actually often “beat mix” rock songs. Not the traditional way like I would do with EDM, but more by knowing primarily the start of the next songs well.
I’ve uploaded a live Rock set I did a while back to SoundCloud, to show a few examples of what I mean. It’s not perfect by a long stretch (some RALLY bad scratching in there!), but should illustrate the idea: http://www.mixcloud.com/klausmogensen96/old-school-rock-mix-2013/
Example of using the drums of the next song: 4:09
Example of using a drum fill of the next song: 17:08
Example of using the Guitar lick of the next song: 7:41
Example of using the vocals of the next song: 15:27And the “cheats”
Doing a little hot cue tapping: 1:22:27
Using a sample: 29:15Since the songs are not perfect in time (they are played by real drummers for the most part), I do wave-ride a lot – which means that I wouldn’t be able to do this in Traktor. But Virtual DJ and Serato does this well
I hope this gives you a few ideas

Klaus MogensenKlaus MogensenParticipantI start simple, and mix towards the more complex
So I start by doing normal beatmixes, mainly on new music to get to know it better as a side effect, then mix something thats not in time, like some rock music or old 70’s stuff, and then end up doing scratches and beat juggling. Especially beat juggling still sounds very bad when I do it, so there are still lots to learn 🙂
