    Same here.
I don’t keep it a secret. If they ask me I tell them. I take it as a compliment if people like the tracks that I play, doesn’t matter whether there other DJ’s or audience. But if DJ’s don’t want to to share there tracks I respect that.
But try not to ask them when they are in the middle of a transitions, like Weaver said.

Your right Sivercue. Passion for music is so important. Wanting to play and share music. And having a super fun time while you do it 😀

get yourself out there. That’s for me the most important thing, but for me also very difficult. I don’t know, sometimes I feel insecure about myself and about me as a DJ. But you can’t get booked if they don’t know you.
quite a few years( still in the vinyl days ) ago I entered a DJ contest. I heard the other DJ’s play before me and I thought about giving up. I’m not that good was what I thought. Luckily I didn’t. Did not won the contest, didn’t even made to the top 3. But I did get 2 weekly residency out of it. So that was really cool

No, just kidding. It looks great!

I, ve been listening to your second mix. The one you think where the transitions are too loud. And once again I don’t think there is anything wrong with your mix. I don’t think the transitions are too loud. And don’t even hear the transitions. Unless I listen really close. You hear the transitions because you know where they are. I think it is mixed really well. I recently did a mix where the transitions where also quite loud. Sometimes that happens in my opnion. And it also depends on the tracks you use. On the genre music you play. Remember you are your own biggest critic. That goes for nearly all artists. Which is  a good thing because you are always looking to improve yourself. But don’t let it paralyse you so to speak.

I don’t think the problem is your controller. But I am curious of what loudspeakers you use. Because that might be the problem. I myself used to DJ with Hi-Fi speakers. I used my micro Hi-Fi set. And with those speakers I also had loud transitions. Now I use the M audio AV 40 and it is a lot better. Studio monitor type speakers have a flat frequency response. And I find it easier to mix with those. Because you hear the music as it was recorded instead of how your loudspeakers  translate the music. Normal loudspeakers colour the sound which I find to more difficult to mix with. So maybe that is something to look in to. And I said it before. playing two tracks at once will always raise the volume. Because there is al ot more going on. I don’t know if your controller has vu meters for each channel. But if they do use those to match the volumes of each tracks with track you are playing.  You can use the gain to do that. because different tracks have different volumes. If it still is problem you cold use platinum notes http://www.platinumnotes.com/ That program will even the volumes of each track. I hope it all works out for you

I think you should look at things separate. Your lucky enough to get paid as wedding DJ. But weddings are not really the place for dope new underground tracks I think. It is a once in a lifetime experience (well at least that is what the bride and groom hope for 😀 ) for your “customers” They just want to hear certain tracks.

But you can aim at doing both. So keep doing the weddings and also the tracks you really want to play as a music lover. You could use a different DJ name. Try to make way for yourself. And remember it is real hard making a living as a underground DJ. Maybe at first try to aim on doing a few parties. You also already got you connections as wedding DJ. Make separate business cards you can hand out at the weddings you DJ. Let them know that your also playing different music. put mixes online. Create a new brand for yourself. If that is what you want to do then go for it. But also remember that it might not come easy. But if you got passion for the music ( and you do ) then you are willing to walk that road.

in reply to: Burning audio CDs #1028963

It think it is really personal. I think I would burn them by genre and bpm. Just make sure you divide the tracks logicically  over your cd’s. Otherwise you end up with the problem that want to play a track but you can’t because it is on de cd that is playing right now. And I wouldn’t put to many tracks on each cd. Make some good labels for each cd to put in the cd wallet. Write the track names big enough so you can read it in a dark dj booth. Also it is a good idea to write the bpm and the key on the labels.

in reply to: What do you guys think about my gear? #1028872

Vintage you said something interesting. There are a lot of people on this forum who like to DJ cdj style. Including myself. There are also quite a lot of people asking questions about cdj’s. Maybe it is a good idea do a article about this. Because I really didn’t know that you could use those Denons sc 2900with Traktor. And that they can be used as a controller. I also did not know about Engine. From what I understand it just like rekordbox. I think just like myself a lot of people are just to focused on Pioneer gear alone. I catch myself on thinking that anything other then Pioneer is just a knock off. Or that is lesser quality. But but when you really looked into it you will find out that that is just not true.

So maybe that way members can be informed about the option of using media players both for cdj style mixing and as controller. And that not only Pioneer cdj’s have HID to support traktor or other DJ software. It is just an idea

next time I do a little more research before I comment, ha ha. I am sorry. What Vintage said. there basically  controllers those Denons. And Dave Clark helped design them. So, yeah 😀

in reply to: What do you guys think about my gear? #1028820

I meant to say that with a controller you can save some money 😀 But the denons do support traktor so that’s really cool I think. Gives you a lot of options with the Denons.

    That’s a tough question, at least for me. But I’ll give it go. Remember this just my opinion;

First of all, gear doesn’t make the DJ. You can be a awesome or terrible DJ with turntables, CD players or a controller. So keep that in my mind. passion for the music that’s the most important thing, and you can’t buy that. It also depends of what your goals and ambitions are. With the gear you bought you can make great mixes. And it also got a lot of features that are also on controllers.  You still can do looping and go nuts with FX. So in that way your are not limiting yourself. And I do think it is challenging enough to get the most out of your Denon set up.The only things is; even if you paid half the money for your set up, with that money you could buy a high end controller. And yes, with that you do got more things to work with like performance pads and remix/sample decks. So if you are really starting to think in the direction of controllerism that might be something you want to look at.

I used to DJ with vinyl. Now I have a simple controller ( reloop mixage ) and my mixing is still real “traditional”. but I really like Traktor now. I can easily organise my music. I like, no love the waveforms. I love quantise. And yes, I love the possibilities that sync gives me. So I am glad I went that way. But I just saw that the sc2900 does support Traktor, so maybe you can save yourself some money. But it is really up to you. Good luck with it!

klinkt interessant, ik had er nog nooit van gehoord. ( translation = sounds interesting, I had never heard about it )

It so awesome that you are willing to check out things for us. This is what is so great about Digital DJ tips. It really is a community.  People on this forum are really there for each other. Willing to help each other. Answering questions. Having patience. I just think that is so cool.

in reply to: Questions About Tracklists On Mixes #1027876

Some people choose not to add a tracklist, because they like to add some tension if you will to the mix as the listener does not knows what tracks are played.  I personally always add a tracklist. Because I want people to know what tracks I used in the mix. These days there are so many mixes to be found online. When someone sees my mix online and they like the artists or tracks I used. Or they recognise some artist and they may get curious of the mix because of that.

And also it looks good. I also always add artwork to my mixes. That can be something really simple but I think that is good marketing. Try to make your mix stand out. Even before listening.

in reply to: Headphone Cue Question #1027807

The question of how to beatmatch a track without headphone. With the sync button off course, although technically it’s not beatmatching then 😀

in reply to: Headphone Cue Question #1027800

Uhm … how do you cue up a track, beatmatch it?

Come on Vintage you know the answer :p
