Personally, I think VDJ is the best for the way it’s library works. I’ve used Mixx, VDJ, Serato, and Traktor, Honestly, Traktor is the biggest pain in the ass in this regard.

Guitar when I was younger. Haven’t played in years. I want to learn piano, even have a classic piano in my dining room.

    In trance it’s usually 32.

No it’s not that big of a scene but I like to spread the music as best I can and I usually get a good response from most people. I have a full time job that pays the bills so I can play whatever the hell I want to whomever will listen. The majority of the scene is in Brazil, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Mexico, etc. It’s one of the many sub genres of psytrance and so it’s part of the psytrance scene.

Yes that’s Hamburg as in Germany. The sub genre basically came to be from many of the great artists in the Hamburg, Germany area and is starting to spread. A lot of good stuff is starting to come out of South America.

I’ll need new needles before I record a vinyl set and that’s kind of taken a back seat since I moved into digital. Digital is a lot of fun. I really enjoy the greater accessibility of the music as opposed to vinyl and without that I wouldn’t be playing the music I play today, which I really love. I could have gone the cd route I guess but I was pretty stubborn about vinyl until my mixer crapped out on me. I got the Numark N4 so it could double as a mixer for my turntables and give me a chance to try digital (I believe it’s the way of the future).

Would love to read the article. We need a healthy rave scene again.

I understand the problem with many who have no idea what they are doing but this is a failure to properly evaluate your djs as Terry said. A short mixtape could weed out a lot of people or, as Terry said, even a a short conversation.

Really nice set. A little too vocal for my tastes but nice transitions for the most part and it flowed really nicely.

Check out Henry Cullen and DAVE the Drummer (same guy different names). I think you might dig some of his stuff. It’s not big room stuff, more deep tech, some is driving though. Good stuff.

Hamburg style prog is a hybrid of techno, house, psytrance and prog trance so I can see how some of it gets too trancey for you. For people in the psytrance community it gets way too housey… to each their own. Glad you enjoyed the darker end of it though, I would consider that the best part.

If I ever put up an all vinyl set I’ll definitely let you know, it’s usually hard techno, minimal techno and acid techno. I’m also working on some house at the moment, deep, funky and disco, if you like that sort of thing.

The audience does tend to like quicker mixes and more tracks but I like to let the tracks breathe a bit more, build an atmosphere and an energy. Different strokes as you said.

Anyway, thanks for checking it out. I’ll keep my eye out for your next mix, I think you’re doing some good shit and headed in a good direction.

I felt the article was addressing monetary success more than forms of success.

Sounds like you play a wide variety of music so you probably vary your mixing style, but if it was me, I would practice mixing top 40 a lot before the gig because I never have played it before.

I don’t dj out of some need to stand on stage and play whatever other people want to hear (no offense intended to anyone, there is nothing wrong with playing what people want so they have a good time). I dj to play the music I love in a creative way. No requests and no concern for punters who stumbled into the wrong place. In that way we are different types of djs with different motivations. You’ll find me in Quadrant 1, and if I get booked by a bad promoter or I fail to properly evaluate the gig I may end up in Quadrant 2 but you’ll never find me in 3 or 4. Now if you’re concerned with djing paying your bills, then this attitude may not be for you.

Have you played top 40 before?
