Thanks rfb, I get where you are coming from but I still went out and bought the K2! I don’t need a cross fader and I like that I can do more on the K2 without having to “shift”. I make occasional mistakes on the DJ3 because I forget which “mode” the control is in. Like I select a cue point on the track that is playing rather than the one I am cueing.
Rob FrancisMemberAnd another thought . . . try to sequence your tracks so that go smoothly from slow to (relatively) fast. It will feel more professional than going slow – fast – slow – fast – slow – fast.
Rob FrancisMemberIf you can, try to use a section of the track that has no beats or percussion to increase the tempo. I find it less noticeable that the tempo is changing. Most people won’t notice anyway.

Rob FrancisMemberAhhhh thanks Digital DJ Tips, found this : http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/11/diary-of-a-novice-midi-mapper-part-4-%E2%80%93-basic-mapping-for-hot-cues/
My point remains though – “Select/Set + Store Hotcue” is very poorly worded. Sort it out NI!
Rob FrancisMemberDamn, so it looks like you can’t set a range. My MIDI controller (just got a K2) doesn’t have a “notch at zero on the rotary controllers so I am concerned about accidentally whacking up the bass.
September 4, 2012 at 2:22 pm in reply to: MP3 Download Restrictions, pointless and annoying!! #1011553Rob FrancisMemberI believe there are ways around it by using a proxy service – never done it myself though.
I was in a similar position recently, so (as I work in IT) I logged onto a remote server in the US and downloaded it from there!
Rob FrancisMemberGood luck Tom! Pretty good going that you have the room to yourself.
Seeing as how you are competing with four other rooms, I would keep plenty of “accessible” tunes in your arsenal. By accessible I mean stuff people will know, or remixes of tracks that people know.
Are you going digital or switching back to CDs?
Rob FrancisMember+1 for Natalie Faith.
Female DJs are v. cool so you should make it obvious. DJ Elixr doesn’t do that.
Rob FrancisMemberCool! I keep thinking I should just buy it to try it out as its only £40 – but still, thats £40 I could spend on music instead!
Thanks Phil, looking forward to it. Hoping to see how it matches up to Traktor.
Rob FrancisMemberYou can set the range of BPMs that Traktor will attempt to work within – its buried in the settings somewhere. Then you could restrict to a smaller range.
Also there are /2 and *2 buttons that will halve or double the tempo – try those out for a quick fix.
Rob FrancisMemberModular is cool – but is a bit more hassle in setting up. Lots of USB cables, USB hubs, etc.
Modular certainly gives you more freedom.
Rob FrancisMemberI would say a MidiFighter is for serious controllerism – you may want to see whether this fits you by trying out cue point juggling, samples, etc. Controllerism always looks impressive for 10 minutes or so but then I think “just play a good tune!”
A similar point for the F1 really. I think to use one of those you have to be really dedicated to manipulating lots of samples on the fly. Both the Midifighter and F1 move you from plain DJing to more of a performance – this is good but the learning and preparation curves are steep.
I would get a better sound system – one that has a really good sound so you can appreciate the music better.
You could still throw in a much cheaper MIDI controller like an Akai LPD8 – they’re only £60. That would allow you to experiment without committing all of your funds.
Rob FrancisMemberIt looks like it is already analysed….
Traktor and iTunes don’t play ball with each other when it comes to MP3 tags so don’t be surprised if they don’t read each others info (or if they overwrite each other too!)
Rob FrancisMemberI’ve got it recorded on Sky+, looking forward to watching it soon
