Ryan GordonParticipant
mail delivery is always a good thing 🙂
I’m running on windows 8, so the Serato Intro that came with it does nothing for me. my roommate actually has Serato on his Macbook Pro, so I can try it with his computer later.
I just deleted all of my mappings, downloaded and re-imported the same one and now I have my play function/fx back. I do not know about cue as I do not have my headphones with me.
However, on the crossfader, when its all the way to the left you hear both decks. and when it is on the right, you only hear the right deck, as it is supposed to work..I have no idea what could cause this issue.
Ryan GordonParticipantTraktor 2 pro, Denon MC2000. I know it is, I’m in college without a car, so going to radioshack or anything of that nature is very rare!
Ryan GordonParticipantI realized that after I posted this.. been lacking sleep
Ryan GordonParticipantCongrats!! Nice laptop, I’m using an HP DV7… Gonna assume yours will come with win8, so far I’ve had no problems with mine and traktor! (On win8) I’m using an i7 processor as well

Don’t do free. There are a few posts on how to get around that hot potatoe on here.
If you feel what you bring is worth something, expect to be paid for it. It’s the first step towards professionalism. Back in the day I played in a small bar/dance place somewhere in Utrecht (The Netherlands) once, maybe 40-45 people showed up. The expected genre was somewhat alien to me (in retrospect). The owner knew who I was and what I usually played. Never said anything about needing a different kind of music.
Needless to say it wasn’t my finest evening. But believe me I got paid the agreed upon amount :D.
I drove there, brought my gear, did the hours. Enough reason to get paid.
Greetinx,
C.I was actually talking to my dad about this and all he said was ‘don’t get ripped off.’ I do believe that what I bring is worth something and will add value to someone’s night…just don’t know how to average it..
So pretty much I just do what I do best, and hope for the rest?Ryan GordonParticipantdj.andy.warhol, post: 45029, member: 13302 wrote: Does this delicate matter never made you a bit nervous ? ; )
just a tad….not much though 😉
Ryan GordonParticipantDJ Elroy, post: 44998, member: 15147 wrote: When I was playing it was typically around $100-150 an evening, which could have been an hour or two or three depending on the show. I’d often agree to play for half that if it was a friends show, or if it was a guy that booked me regularly. I’ve also played for drinks & a guest list (more when I was first starting out, just to get my foot in the door).
I know the big name locals here can pull double that, but they could also pull a lot more heads into the door.Things you’ll need to consider when deciding how much to ask:
- What gear do you have to bring?
- How far do you have to drive?
- Do you have to pay for parking?
- Do you just show up and play or are you expected to be there before doors open til after closing time?
- How much do the other DJs in the area get paid?
- Are they paying per hour or per show? Is it a flat rate, a percent of the bar/door, or per head?
- Are you playing once a month? Once a week? Several times a week?
- Are you making any promises? (Like a guarantee for x-amount of people in the door each night)
For the local DJ’s.. there aren’t actually that many.. about 4 or 5 tops which is low.. to me? I actually wouldnt mind playing for drinks and a guest list, its still some sort of compensation for something I enjoy to do.
For gear, it depends on which venue.. he mentioned a few bars, which i know have nothing, I would have to bring my laptop, controller (Denon MC2000), PA system, and i do not have lights, but the bar I would be in doesnt have the dj as the focal point.
driving- everything is walking distance, i don’t have a car so my buddy would drop my off/pick up my gear with me.. free of charge, parking is free.Ryan GordonParticipantSorry, I’ve been away from any technology today… I go to the Florida State University, in tallahasee, FL. and I was thinking the same thing, rizki. Ahaha
Ryan GordonParticipantI’m in a college town with 50K teenagers… People go out a lot. And the two bars he mentioned are pretty full on any given night. And I don’t know any other DJs in town… Yet.
Thanks!
Ryan GordonParticipantthanks! question about the pricing…I have no idea what is reasonable or not. Honestly I love to mix and would do it for free, but I know that I’m not going to play for free.. especially when I could use the money to pay for school. Any idea what would be reasonable to charge?
Ryan GordonParticipantgreat mix!

Is this setup good? #42296Ryan GordonParticipantI actually just bought a MC2000 and I love it, I couldn’t run Serato because I have the glory if running Win8 -__- but I found a great mapping for traktor in 5 minutes online.
Ryan GordonParticipantThank you, yes I noticed in the mix but did not think to check if I had it turned on, next time I guess.
Ryan GordonParticipantI have a HP Envy DV7, win8, about to dual boot with win7 for DJing. 16 GB ram, 1T hd, backlit keyboard, 17″ hd screen, 4 usb ports with 2, 3.0 and great battery life. i love it, no problems whatsoever, except win8! costco is having a great deal online right now
Ryan GordonParticipantoh and how much RAM and hard drive should I give to the dual boot, if its just going to be traktor, maybe ableton, drivers and such, and I can just put music on an external hard drive
