    Increase buffer size in audio settings??

    Re-install sound card drivers (if you remembered to install them in the first place 🙂 )

    On my windows 8.1 laptop, i run VDJ 8 at around 10ms latency through my Focusrite 2i4 with the ASIO drivers for it (at 24bit, 96KHz) – with VDJ set to:

    SAMPLE RATE: 96000
    LATENCY: “Automatic (288)”
    ultralatency off
    overclock on
    and all the quality settings on max

    These may not be the best settings for you, but they work for me.. 🙂

    And I can’t find “Advanced Stretching – or anything to do with stretching – anywhere??

    If on Windows:

    Check your USB drivers – make sure they are up to date, re-install the drivers for your soundcard (whilst it is plugged in) and then only use it on that one USB port – it does matter. And then reset the settings in VDJ.

    If you are on a Mac:

    Install any relevant Core Audio drivers (if applicable) and reset the settings in VDJ.

    If that doesn’t sort it, I don’t know…

    In that case, was the crossover plugged in at all?

    That would look like:

    S4 –(RCA CABLE)-> AMP –(JACK-JACK)-> TOP SPEAKERS –(JACK-BARE)-> SUBS

    So the extra cables you would need are:

    S4

    RCA TO “WHATEVER IT TAKES” (STEREO)

    CROSSOVER

    “WHATEVER IT TAKES” TO RCA – PAIR (ONE HIGH, ONE LOW)

    AMP

    HIGH: JACK TO JACK -> TOP 1 -> JACK TO JACK -> TOP 2 (DAISY CHAINING THEM)

    LOW: JACK TO BARE -> SUB 1 -> BARE TO BARE -> SUB 2 (DAISY CHAINING THEM)

    With those cables i’m not sure how he would use the crossover – looks like he just sent all the signal to all the speakers

    Select the playlist, go to File -> Library -> Export Playlist. Save it somewhere.

    On the other library, go File -> Library -> Import Playlist 🙂

    There are RCA outputs on the amp??

    I would expect the amp to have Jack Outputs – Maybe even Speakon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speakon_connector) – rca connectors generally aren’t used for the output on amps due to the higher current through them.

    Yes, Channels A and B mean that there are 2 channels 🙂

    What kind of inputs are there on the tops? Do they just have audio in or do they plug into the mains too??

    If they do plug into the mains, this means that they are what’s called “Active” – IE they have built in amps. In this case, feed the high output from the crossover straight to these WITHOUT going through the amp.

    Okay, so you have:
    2 Top Speakers
    2 Subs
    1 Active Crossover
    1 Power Amp (How many channels in the amp?? I’ll assume 2 for the stuff below as that’s normal)
    1 S4

    You’re signal should look like this:

    ________________________HIGH FREQ. OUTPUT -> POWER AMP CHANNEL 1 -> TOP 1 -> TOP 2
    S4 -> Crossover -<
    ________________________LOW FREQ. OUTPUT -> POWER AMP CHANNEL 2 -> SUB 1 -> SUB 2

    The crossover splits the audio going into it into 2 (or 3) bands, for feeding to different kinds of speakers. This means that only the Subs get the low end and only the tops get the high end. This means that the tops aren’t trying to handle the high and the low, which they don’t need to as you have a pair of subs.

    The Amp (Which I am assuming has 2 channels) takes the line-level output from the crossover and amplifies it up to a level which can drive the speakers. On this, plug everything in, put the volume dials to 0, turn everything on (Keeping to the golden rule and turn things on going up your signal chain, so laptop, then S4, then crossover and finally the amp to prevent big “Thump” sounds going through the speakers) and then set some music playing. Gradually then turn up the amp until you’re at the volume you want BUT don’t drive it too hard. There should be a “PEAK” light or a VU meter on the amp – if either of these is peaking then you should turn it down a bit and very definitely not go any louder!!

    Hope this makes sense,

    You can point both iTunes libraries at the same music location – go to “Edit” -> “Preferences” -> “Advanced” -> “Change”in one of the libraries

    Set this to the location of the music in the other library (On windows, My Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Media) and then the same music will be in both libraries.

    BUT if you add/delete tracks in one library you will then have to go to “Add File To Library” to add that song to the second library as it won’t be added automatically. And if you delete a track in one library you then have to delete it in the other as well.

    🙂

    I only have praise for my pair of (new) Thump 15’s – plenty of power and pretty amazing bass considering I don’t use a sub (I don’t need to – the venue I play most of the time is a bit small for a sub at all)

    I got them on a great deal just before christmas and you can still find them on great deals – just do some googling to find a decent site with them at a decent price 🙂

    Hi Dmansu,

    What you need is an iPad compatible controller. The controller itself does not need to connect to spotify – that’s what your iPad will do.

    Your signal path looks something like this:

    Spotify -> iPad -> Controller -> Speakers

    Therefore what you need is simply an iPad compatible controller – the controller is not the thing that connects to spotify and therefore the controller will not be advertised as working with spotify. If the controller is DJAY 2 compatible, it will talk to spotify.

    You need to determine what kind of a controller you need for your workflow – do you need jogs? Do you need the ability to play other formats? Can it charge my iPad?

    Work out the answers and then do some googling 🙂 A good plae to start might be the controller guide published on here every year, and simply just pick out the iPad compatible options and then figure out what will work for you.

    Hope this helps,

    Just a tip: Often these songs are released in foreign (AUS OR US are good ones) markets before even they start being played on radio here…

    Just google “How to get a foreign iTunes account” 😉

    Hi John,

    with RCA cables/jack cables I don’t see how much one can be higher quality than the other – xlr cables are better but only as they are balanced rather than unbalanced as rca cables are. Most people use rcas cables (and they see them on the back of cdj’s as well as pretty much every controller ever made) and assume they are better. Truth is that they are just easier for companies to fit than jack sockets – they are huge!!

    RE: your interface, you could well get slightly better sound quality from your 6i6 (I have the 2i4 and love it) and it would work with your setup. But it would not necessarily have less latency and would add an extra level of complication to your setup. The fewer devices you have on usb the better – if you can slim it down.

    In short, I wouldn’t use it. Partly because it risks damaging your interface and your controller if something happens and partly because it is unnecessary. I would rather use the NI hardware with NI software – its been designed to work together and will be more stable than your focusrite for gigs.

    hope this helps 🙂

    Since when do you “need” double drivers for djing?? I’ve used my single driver beyerdynamics for djing when ive not had my over ears to hand – and had no issues. The main reason i use over ears instead are their more robust than little buds – not because of functionality at all

    Edit: Just noticed that beyerdynamic have updated the earphones – but only changed the lead slightly… and renamed them the “102s” – So now the 101’s are super cheap on amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004LX8Y0U/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1PWKE9JMAQ2EVSFG2WNG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455344027&pf_rd_i=468294) 🙂
