Buy the online course. Seriously, I was skeptical at first because I already knew a fair bit and had been djaying for a while, but Phil makes everything so easy to understand. You’ll never make a bad cut again.
squarecellParticipantMany times I’ve started just fooling around mixing songs, then a half-hour in realize I just put together a great set and wished I’d been recording from the beginning.
squarecellParticipantsquarecellParticipantThere’s a button in the lower left that says “PROGRAM”, when you hit that you are selecting which memory bank you want to use. If you hit PAD 1, then you switching to program 1, PAD 2 = program 2 and so on. To set a program and return to normal pad function, hit PROGRAM, then Pad 1, 2, 3 or 4, then hit the button in the lower left that says PAD – this will return you to regular pad function using the program (i.e. memory bank) you just selected.
squarecellParticipantI live in a small town in Northern Canada. I went to a local dance the other night at the community hall (which owns about $10K worth of house sound and lighting equipment)… the DJ had a $30 CD boombox which he was routing into the mixboard and playing his tunes from there.

Right click on the on-screen control, then press the button on your controller you want to use for it. Some things like jogwheels are a bit trickier to map, but all-in-all it wasn’t a hard thing to do.
squarecellParticipantAre you getting the speakers AND an SCS.4DJ??
squarecellParticipantMy DJ software is VDJ Pro, because I’ve tried all the rest and this is one I feel most comfortable with.
Though, I must say Djay is starting to creep in somewhat.
squarecellParticipantBeatport Sync, a free program from NI that was basically iTunes with a sync button and crossfader.
My biggest misconception was that beatmatching was the ultimate DJ skill. Which is funny because I was DJing parties and dances before I’d even heard the word before.
Tip: DJing is 99% playing the right song at the right time and 1% matching the beats and mixing your songs blend together seamlessly.

David Guetta Feat. Sia – Titanium
Kaskade – Lessons in Love
will.i.am – T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)
Avicii – Levels / Flo Rida – Good Feeling (I put these together since they are so similar)squarecellParticipantThere’s always AtomixMP3, though it’s not cheap for an old piece of software.

I don’t have a video, but I can tell you it works great for me. I use the knobs to control the tone and the pads for my cue points. Since the LPD8 allows multiple programs, I’ve also got ones for looping, effects and even more hot cues.
squarecellParticipantI’ve been looking, but haven’t been able to find anything. I guess it’s more rare than I thought.
squarecellParticipantI found one cheap at my local radio shack that is intended for use with audiobooks. Works like a charm.
Once you have a bit of cash though you might want to pick up a USB audio adapter like the Numark DJio.squarecellParticipantI’ve actually had no problem at all mapping the jog wheels in Torq or djay. Plus they work flawlessly in VDJ pro without any mapping required.
