I’m in a similar boat, and looking into what I’d gain with the MTP2 and the software upgrade… I’m looking to eventually get something like the DDJ-SR, and if I upgrade now I pay twice to get the full Serato DJ program… I think I’m going to just learn as much as I can with the MTP2 as it came out of the box… unless I find a mapping and info that makes me think otherwise…. but I don’t plan on keeping the MTP2 for many gigs, as the cue volume isn’t loud enough… kind of wishing I hadn’t fallen for the pads and had gotten the Denon MC2000, or that the DDJ-SB had been out then… seems like using it with the full Serato DJ was thought out more… don’t get me wrong, I love the mixtrack and serato intro… it’s lots of fun and I’m learning a lot… I’m sure I can learn lots more on this too, but if I’d gotten something a bit better I wouldn’t be looking to “upgrade” so soon I think…  any input on how well the MTP2 works with the upgraded Serato DJ would be great… like any chance the cue output is louder…LOL  Is there a mapping that works well with hotcues, looping, and some of the roll, slicer, slip mode, etc…. features that draw me to wanting the DDJ-SR  hoping for some more input…

great question, I am watching videos, wishing there was more info on the preparation of such routines….  I will be hoping there is some input on this…I am going to be putting in as much practice as I can over the winter, and hope to climb out of my hobbit hole/cave in spring with enough skills to pull something off half as good as those routines….  Angelo’s routine there is Awesome!

anybody have any input on Maschine Mikro Mk2 as a first step into production?  My plan was to get that first, then add something like the Scarlett 2i4, and a good mic or 2, then the APC40 and Ableton… Looking into some KRK6 or the similar Pioneer monitors.  Anything else I should look into?  I don’t play any instruments other than simple hand percussion, hence the decision for pads and not a keyboard…  I think starting with the Mikro would be fun, not too much expense, and would let me get my feet wet and learn a lot, like whether I really want to dive in deeper… it would be nice an portable too, easy to get out and jam whenever, right on the coffee table and stuff, later I could get the full maschine or the studio one…  just thought I’d ask here, and my questions and any response might be of help for the OP, giving another approach/outlook……

I am working on a “schedule” for practicing this winter… I have decided that I want to do something with music every day.. am hoping to spend at least 2 hours each day … thinking something like this..

Monday, just listening to tunes, looking for new stuff in my collection to add to my Serato Crates, and working with organizing what I have… also, listening to new music, as when I get to buy a new album or CD it’s usually over the weekend…

Tuesday morning I plan to spend about an hour with my controller, working with a certain type of music, be it hip/hop and rap, classic rock, or dance music and Skrillex…LOL  just looking for things that fit together and such, and practicing all skills I’m hoping to be building… as well as setting cue points in the songs I’ve crated up…  In the afternoon I hope to just have some time listening to tunes while doing housework and dealing with kids…

I plan to basically repeat Tuesday for Wed. and Thurs….   Friday I hope to try and do some “sets”, actually putting it together as I would at a gig, maybe in morning do a “set” or more classic rock and such, for an older or mixed crowd type situation… then Friday eve do it again, with more hip/hop, rap, EDM stuff….

Weekends it’s just what I can when I can, as family takes priority, and weekends are when we usually go to town for shopping, visit people, have folks over, etc… I may start doing some small parties to “gig” for friends and try and get input…  I will be hoping to have some production gear soon too, and that will work into weekend time and maybe a little during the week too.  Also, I have time every day to read forums, and DJ sites, watch videos, and absorb input, ideas, and new music….

I am a stay at home parent at the moment, with a baby, 3yr old, and a first grader, so time is a little here and a little there, but I’m working on it, and can usually get an hour or so to myself at night if I’m not too tired…LOL  I plan to really put some time into practice and music this winter, as I am buying lights and PA and such and hope to start a mobile entertainment business in spring… just thought I’d throw this out there, as I have been working on this lately, might help give you another angle to look at, and also, folks might have input for me too….   thanks to all who make this site so AWESOME!   Isaiah

I’m looking into upgrading to the DDJ-SR…. wondering how much I’ll miss the lit center in the jog… also wondering about the Mic channel, is it better than the supposedly problematic SX?   I have a Mixtrack Pro 2 and hope to outgrow it this winter(almost wish I’d have gotten MC2000), I’ll have some time to look into the SR and full Serato DJ program… hoping the SR gets more user reviews and videos over the next few months…

I have the mixtrack pro 2, and while it’s been great to learn on, I have found no good bag or case for it yet, aside from a decksaver and multi purpose bag…. It also has cue volume that is way too low for easy cueing when the mains are loud…  I am wishing I’d have ponied up the $50 more for the MC2000, and am now looking to upgrade to either the Denon, or a DDJ-SR……    I would look into those 2, as well as the DDJ-SB that just came out…. kinda kicking myself now that I’m wanting to start doing gigs and the MTP2 isn’t up to it…. wondering what the OP is up to…. if anyone has any input on my situation, please feel free to contact me…. santacreekfurrows at gmail dot com….

I thought the CNTRL-7 was the ticket for me, until I got a bad one, returned it and got another bad one… ponied up for the Mixtrack Pro 2 (about $100 more), I like it, but will be upgrading soon…. kinda wish I had gotten the MC2000 by Denon, or that Pioneer had come out with the DDJ-SB or SSJ-SR at that point… I am looking at the DDJ-SR, with Serato DJ…. but for size am still considering the MC2000… The SB seems better than the MTP2 as well, but it’s almost as big so I’d rather have the SR…. maybe I’ll get the MC2000 and DDJ-SR….>LOL   I’d say have your friend keep on with his current gear and computer/vdj setup… and look into saving for the Pioneer or Denon gear… the Mixtrack Pro 2 is going to my son, it just isn’t nearly loud  enough on headphones to gig with, no bags or cases really available for it…etc..   I am looking into a DDJ-SR with flight case, and a MC2000 with decksaver, for in a backpack…  just my .01, the other .01 goes into the saving jar …LOL

wondering what the OP decided on, if he has yet.   I have the Mixtrack Pro 2, not sure if the first one is the same, but the MTP2 has very low cue volume, not loud enough when the PA is rockin’.  It is helping me learn a lot, and I’m glad to have it, just kinda wish I had ponied up another $50 for the Denon  … I am looking to upgrade, and am looking at the Denon MC2000, Pioneer DDJ-SR, and maybe the DDJ-SB… I would like to stick to Serato, as I am liking it so far, and am looking into the DDJ-SR with Serato DJ(not intro)… also considering the Denon MC2000, it’s an Intro controller, so looking into using with upgraded Serato DJ… I like it’s size, and that it’s fairly sturdy build…  my input, would be get something with decent build, and that you can grow into as you learn, instead of something to grow out of as you learn… glad my son wants the MTP2…..LOL

wondering what the OP is up to now…  I am in a similar boat, adding to a Mini Kinta…

I am planning to add a second Mini Kinta, 4Play CL, fogger, MinLaser RBX, Gobo Zoom 2.0, some SlimPar56 fixtures, Mega Strobe 12FX, a pair of pinspots maybe, another laser, Obey 40(maybe the wireless one), more par style wash/uplighting fixtures, then eventually a pair of scanners like the Inno series… but for starters, the 4Play CL, a 2nd mini kinta and DMX cable to master/slave them, and a slimpack56 I think… might squeeze the laser and fog if I can and the obey 40, but I’m also buying PA and some other gear all over the next few months.  Looking at EV speakers and that means sacrifices in other areas…LOL    Hope it’s OK to post on these older threads instead of starting a fresh one asking the same Q ….  and my thoughts might help the OP if he hasn’t already made his purchases, or remind him to chime in and let us know what he’s up to now, and what he got/how it’s working out…   thanks to all that make DDJT so great!
