jgarbett : Well you should buy some high quality earplugs. A lot of DJs and producers wear it and it doesn’t ruin the way you mix !

Gulli : Yeah I heared about Zedd, since like he’s recovering I saw a post about it on Twitter. I hope he does because wow it’s depressive.

DJRizki : thank you, it seems to be a bit better today… The tinitus came back to it’s original “volume”, the same as in my left ear now… But I’m still quite deaf from right ear, feels like I’m almost wearing an earplug… But I’m not :/

Yep I’m definitely going to do that, my father is a doctor so he got me an appointement (english word for “rendez-vous”?) quickly. Anyway, hard to not jump on conclusions when you wake up almost deaf :/ I pray that it will go again…

    On Soundcloud there’s no way to know the bitrate before you download it. And SC streams a low-quality version of the songs, so if you illegaly try to get a sound from Soundcloud with something like AnythingMP3, it will be 192kbps I think. You can try for example with this free song ;

If you click on “Download” you’ll have the 320 version. Download it with AnythingMP3 and it will be low quality.

On Beatport I’m not sure but I read on a few websites that they only provide top-quality songs (highest MP3, WAV… files).

No problem ! Massive is kinda complicated for a first VST though I think. LennarDigital’s Sylenth1 is incredibly powerfull just like Massive, and a bit easier if you start – it doesn’t work the same way. Learning to use Sylenth1 will help you learning what is ADSR, which is important in sound designing if you want to use this type of VST. You can do a hell lot of things with it, so I’d rather tell you to buy Sylenth1 first ; it’s not very expensive and the possibilities are almost endless. I’d like to know what the other producers of the forum think about this advice

Even though I think Sylenth user are more into House style (just as I do), and you seem to be into Drum’n’Bass, it doesn’t really matters, you can perfectly use it. I use it for Progressive House, Trance and even Nu-Disco songs myself. πŸ™‚

Also if you want good links to learn a few important things I have some, just ask ! It will be a pleasure to help a new young producer, plus you are only 13 so you have a lot of time to learn πŸ™‚

Sounds a bit amateur. At the beginning the piano sounds really cheap, try to add some reverb and change the velocity to make it sound more “real”. The melody itselfs isn’t bad at all, at 1:11 it’s really good with more layers but you need to work a lot your mix, it takes a lifetime to learn how to mix properly… But everytime you learn something new you’ll make better songs !

What do you use with FL Studio ? For your synths, pianos etc…

I get it, sex sells, but I think real female DJs had to fight hard for respect behind the decks

Unfortunately this is not something that applies only for dance music industry. Not even only music industry at all, but pretty much everywhere. And it’s sad to know that (at least where I live) clubs organize events sometimes where, if the girl comes semi-naked (don’t know how to explain it in an english word sorry haha) she has a free drink and stuff…

But is this something we, clubbers and DJs, can fight ? Of course I (and a lot of people) find it very annoying that girls have to show their boobs if they want anything but it’s hard to fight it…

(I’d make a 1000 words post about it if I could, sad thing I’m french)

How about just play the original version of the rap songs? cuz ya know rap its pretty darn close to trap anyway

    > I guess you’re not into alternative hip-hop & old-school rap hehe. Anyway you’re right about the “2010 style” rap songs. They are almost trap songs nowadays. I only hope that there are no “purist” rap fans in this party haha.

I normally open with the Laidback Luke style of music and I don’t think drunk teenagers (whom I’m not a part of) are into that sort of thing

    > Drunk teenagers will dance to anything but yeah I’d open the party with maintstream songs. Most famous Beatport Top 100 songs & Top 40 songs like these :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRuoR–LdqQ (lol I hate these ones, just an example)

And then move to the songs you love, see how they react…

Well combine the names and you get:
    A Doll
    A.D.O. (Advanced Dance Ontology)
    LyAm
    LyDa
    O-ALDLAMY

If you want something that really stucks in everybody’s head you can choose “We LyAm” πŸ™‚
More seriously, something with Bedford could be really cool I guess. Maybe try something with the name of your football team, or a famous place in your town ?

I mix with a Mixtrack Pro II. Of course it is way less impressive than a Pioneer setup I guess, but (at least for what I do) it works very well. I’ve seen a lot of DJs using expensive setup like CDJ and stuff, and they can’t beatmatch/mix smoothly… The only thing that matters is : you must know your gear and how to use it properly. I’d be scared if I had to use something I never heared about… When you use your Mixtrack Pro II at least you know what to do if something goes wrong, you won’t be able to do anything if it ever happens with the Pioneer. πŸ™‚

It depends. What type of samples are you looking for ?

As DJ Cheeku said, you can check Looperman if you’re searching for drums/synths loops, impacts, up and downlifters… It’s one of the most famous websites. You can buy Vengeance loops if you also want drum samples & loops but they’re quite expensive AND overused by a lot of producers nowadays…
As a producer I like thesample.net there are some good free sample packs and freesound.org has a lot of great free samples too !

    Hope you’ll find what you’re looking for ! πŸ™‚

Top 40 rap/electro songs and some rock I guess, you won’t have to dig for old-school rap and smooth jazz on this one !
