Virtual DJ 7.1: Just one new feature and a few bugfixes, as we wait for Virtual DJ 8 to hit primetime.
With Virtual DJ users still patiently awaiting Virtual DJ 8, today Atomix released Virtual DJ 7.1. It’s a more incremental upgrade, that contains only one headline new feature.
It is now possible to have “cloud playlists” with a new function called CloudList (which only work with the online NetSearch feature). So you could, for instance, log on to your friend’s Virtual DJ at his house and access all your personal playlists, or create and share playlists with other DJs online.
Apart from that, many new DJ controllers are now natively supported – indeed, Virtual DJ 7.1 now supports 176 controllers natively without the need to find and install mappings yourself.
Virtual DJ 7.1 now supports 176 controllers natively…
There are a few bugfixes: Some NetSearch video problems have been ironed out, HID/Midi controller performance overall has seen a hike in performance, and niggly UTF8 character display problems in ID3 tags have been ironed out. But for the big leaps, you’ll have to carry on waiting patiently for Virtual DJ 8…
• The upgrade as always is free for owners of the software and available now from the Virtual DJ website.

Oooh cool
wonder when the Home edition will get an upgrade…
[ link ]Cloudlist is completely useless to me and I was hoping for some improvement to actual DJing rather than the Internet extras. I don’t connect my laptop to the Internet when DJing because it adds an unpredictable element which I don’t need. Also, Internet access in the UK is sketchy at best especially in some remote country hotels. Disappointed!!
[ link ]To be honest I´m a little disappointed. Of all the new features they could´ve implemented, I feel this is one of the least interesting ones. I´m already syncing my playlist to a dropbox folder as is. Furthermore, the playlists you sync will be useless 99% of the time, since they reference filepaths, which will not be the same on your friend´s computer.
A free update is of course always nice and performance improvement sounds good too. It´s just not really that big a step towards VDJ 8.
[ link ]I would say that all the native mapped controllers are the main reason for this upgrade. Since the latest version was more that 6 months old, this was much needed to stay in the game
[ link ]For sure.
[ link ]That’s actually pretty good for people who have a backup laptop/desktop with all their music in there.saves you having to go in mydocuments/virtualdj/playlists to copy it to another computer/usb flash drive. the fact that so many controllers are supported is also good. at the end of the day, it’s not vdj8. windows updates itself all the time and nothing changes.
[ link ]Virtual DJ has issues accessing files from a network share (like a NAS) while also recording/broadcasting. It pegs the CPU up to 100% on my Mac and toys around with the idea of crashing. I’ve had a few instances so far where I thought I would lose the set because of it. Hopefully whatever bug that is will be fixed soon. But because of this bug specifically I am very much skeptical that cloudlists will be a valuable tool to a digital DJ.
The reason why iCloud works is because I use it to *listen* to the songs. I don’t use iCloud to play a set. Adding variables like ISP speeds, buffer issues, and network latency is really not a good thing to any performance. VDJ, especially since it’s not the software the average user opens to just listen to a tune, should really concentrate on other features than the cloud. My $0.02.
