Novation just announced Launchpad Arcade, an easy-to-use grid pad looping app that you can use to play sounds using just your internet browser, whether that’s on a Mac, PC, Android or iOS device. It comes with a handful of stock tunes from a variety of different dance music styles, and you can launch loops and one shots by touching them if you’re using a smart device, or using your laptop’s Qwerty keyboard.

Furthermore, if you’re using Google Chrome on a laptop, you can connect a Launchpad and use that for tactile pad control over Launchpad Arcade.

Launchpad Arcade is like a “lite” version of the Launchpad iOS app – it’s pared down and meant to be used straightaway. It’s a fun way to kill time while you’re in a queue or during your daily commute. It’s also a good introduction to looping and live dance music performance – albeit basic, the workflow is similar to what you’d find in Ableton Live’s Session View, and could be a fun way to get started moving into the DJ/producer direction if you’ve been curious.

• Launchpad Arcade is live now and free to use. Check the Launchpad Arcade site for more details.
