The Lowdown

The V-Moda M-100 Pro takes over from the legendary M-100 as the company’s flagship DJ headphone, packing ceramic-coated drivers and proper modular construction for working DJs. At £249 they’re not cheap, but the combination of excellent sound, replaceable parts, and professional features makes them a solid investment for serious DJs. Built for the booth, not the bedroom.

First Impressions / Setting up

Unboxing the M-100 Pros feels premium from the start. Inside the soft carry case you’ll find the headphones (that fold down impressively small), two cables (3m coiled and 1.5m straight), a 1/4″ adapter, and a spare port cover for whichever side you’re not using.

Build quality is exceptional. The metal construction has real heft to it, the folding mechanism feels bulletproof, and every component screams “professional equipment”. The memory foam ear pads are thick and comfortable, and crucially, they’re replaceable when they wear out. Same goes for the ear cups themselves – this modular design means these headphones can last years of heavy use.

The M-100 Pros arrive with a spare port cover, carrying pouch, adapter, and two cable options.

The set-up offers flexibility missing from cheaper models. The lockable cable can plug into either ear – twist to lock it in place and it’s not coming out accidentally. Choose whichever side works best for your booth and gear. The unused port gets a cover to keep dust out. It takes 30 seconds to configure them how you want.

In Use

Fire up Gat Decor’s “Passion” through these (my test track of choice, by default!) and the difference is immediately obvious to the cheaper M-10s launched at the same time. Those “ceramic drivers” aren’t marketing nonsense – everything sounds clearer, more present, more alive. The bass is controlled and punchy without overwhelming the mix. Mids are full and detailed. Highs sparkle without harshness.

The real bass ducts (not decorative ones as on their cheaper cousins) let the drivers breathe properly. You can hear it in how the low end moves – tight and controlled rather than boomy. At 107 dB/mW sensitivity, they’re louder than most DJ headphones too, with plenty of headroom even in loud environments.

Comfort during long sets is excellent. The thick padding and adjustable headband distribute weight evenly. The folding mechanism doesn’t just save space – it also helps them adjust better to different head sizes. After hours of use they stay comfortable, though like all closed-backs they do get warm.

Professional features shine through in use. Lockable cables have saved me from disaster more than once when someone’s snagged them. Being able to switch sides depending on booth layout is genuinely useful. The swivel mechanism for one-ear monitoring works smoothly and holds position properly.

For actual DJing, they’re superb. Beatmatching is effortless with the clear, defined bass. But unlike cheaper DJ headphones, you can actually enjoy listening to music through them too. The frequency response is much flatter and more natural – these are headphones you could use at a push for production work as well as DJing.

Conclusion

The M-100 Pros justify their price with professional build quality, excellent sound, and features that working DJs actually need. The modular construction means they’ll last years of heavy use, making them better value long-term than cheaper alternatives you’ll replace every year.

They look identical, but only the M-100 Pro (right) has real bass ducts – the M-10’s are just for show. It’s one of the reasons the Pros sound so much better.

These are for working DJs, regular gigging DJs, and anyone who needs their gear to survive professional use. Also great for bedroom DJs who prioritise sound quality and are willing to invest in gear that’ll grow with them – they’re not for casual users who just need basic beat-matching tools, though.

At this price point, also consider the Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10 or Sennheiser HD 25 Plus – both proven professional options with different comfort and sound characteristics.

The V-Moda M-100 Pros deliver everything a professional DJ needs: bulletproof build, replaceable parts, and sound quality that makes both mixing and listening a pleasure.
