Hitting the app store today is the latest version of djay for iPad, specially optimised for the new dual-core iPad 2.

djay for iPad 1.2 takes advantage of the extra power available, bringing keylock / timestretching to the software for the first time and delivering improved beat analysis and looping features.

The keylock feature allows changes in track tempo without changes in pitch, allowing for more creative mixing as well as harmonic mixing.

Improved beat analysis allows the program to deliver convincing loop rolls (watch the video above for a convincing demo).

On-the-beat scrubbing means you can touch the on-screen waveform to move through the playing track without interrupting the flow of the beats or any mix you’re doing.

The new beat analysis engine that allows many of these improvements identifies bass drum, snare, hi-hats etc and draws these as a transparent layer behind the waveform, making it easy to visually cue to interesting parts in a track.

Arguably the easiest DJ controller software for the iPad, djay now has some of the must-have features that initial users were asking for, and the rapid iterations of the program from makers algoriddim bode well for its continued development.

“It takes the app to a whole new level and there is no real barrier vs using desktop computers any more to DJ.” Karim Morsy, CEO of algoriddim, told Digital DJ Tips yesterday.

• The djay for iPad 1.2 app is available for $19.99 from the App Store on iPad or at For more information on djay for iPad, visit
