When I was 10 years old, I really wanted to buy a turntable of my own. I had no money, but it didn’t stop me from fantasising about the make and model that I wanted to play my records on. What’s more, I remember clearly promising myself that once I finally got it, I’d draw every single part of that turntable, from every angle, as faithfully as I could.
As it turned out, it was actually many years before I finally owned a turntable of my own. But I tell you this story to convey that I totally understand my friend Mark Settle choosing to draw classic DJ gear faithfully in every single detail himself. Mark has now been doing this for several years, producing limited edition prints of his drawings of classic DJ mixers, headphones, and so on over on his Worxlab website…but he’s not going to be doing it for much longer!

When we wanted to buy a present for our tutor DJ Jazzy Jeff (who’s pretty much the definition of a DJ who already has everything), one of Mark’s prints of a DJ Jazzy Jeff signature mixer from the late 80s was our natural choice. We didn’t stop there, though. We now have framed prints of old Vestax mixers, Sennheiser headphones, a particularly brilliant one of the iconic Allen & Heath Xone:96 mixer, and more, proudly hung in our studio – and we love them.

As I say, Mark’s not going to be doing this for much longer. These were always limited editions, but now he’s decided these will be the last prints he makes, and so when they’re gone…they’re really all gone. So if this looks like something you’d love hanging on your wall, do go and check out his final sale over on the Worxlab website.
Finally, it’s a sign of the times that I even feel the need to do this, but it’s important to point out that Mark didn’t ask us to write this piece or pay us to do so – we don’t do stuff like that.
But in this throwaway world, here’s something that you could treasure for life and that Mark put a lot of love into. We’re more than happy to spread the word, especially as this is the last chance you’ll have to grab these.
