Rekordbox has been updated to version 7.2.8, adding a fourth stem to its stem separation feature alongside improvements to cloud syncing and duplicate file management.
The update means DJs can now separate tracks into four stems – vocal, instrumental, bass, and drums – rather than the previous three-stem configuration. This gives more granular control over individual elements during performance, particularly useful for mobile and club DJs who want to isolate basslines or create breakdowns on the fly.

The software now lets you choose between the original three-stem mode (vocal, instrumental, drums) or the new four-stem option, so you’re not forced into one approach. It’s a straightforward addition that brings Rekordbox in line with competing DJ software that’s offered four-stem separation for a while now – although sound quality-wise, they’re still lagging behind the best-in-class.
What else is new?
Beyond stems, this update adds a cloud set-up wizard to simplify getting Cloud Library Sync and Rekordbox CloudDirectPlay working. There’s also a new feature that lets you merge duplicate tracks in your library – handy if you’ve imported the same file from different sources over time.
They have fixed several bugs too, including issues with waveform display when Beat Sync is enabled, problems playing explicit Apple Music tracks, and Spotify streaming limits on Windows. They’ve also unified the Apple Music loading method across all devices, though this may require you to re-analyse tracks and reset cue points if you notice any misalignment.
Rekordbox v7.2.8 is available now as a free update for existing users. The software itself follows Rekordbox’s standard pricing structure: there’s a free tier with basic features, while the full Creative and Professional plans require a subscription.
