I had totally forgotten about that, I’ll definitely have to check it out again!

Thanks for this tip, I’ll have a look at this website. If you want a good trick to search a website that doesn’t have a good search engine, just use Google: when you type “site:acapellas4u.co.uk song name here” without the quotes, it uses Google’s search engine to browse the website.

On the contrary, when you produce from A to Z with Logic or any other modern DAW, you can play all the instruments in the world.

That would be Team Fortress 2. There no other way to describe it other than pure fun. You’re not getting a deep RPG or a time-consuming RTS, just pure, concentrated fun.

Does anybody use DJ pools like DJCity and the previously mentioned BreakzRUs?

This is a truly touching story. I’m not often moved by things like this but somehow this has touched me to my core. I wish you all the best in the world and from what I understand you deserve it a lot more than most.

I play mainly PC and Xbox 360 games. Weirdly enough, I like my FPS on the Xbox 360 better, mostly because I’m excellent at them with a controller and not as much with a keyboard and mouse.

I love the Modern Warfare games, can’t wait for the third one this November but the game I’m most looking forward to by far is Diablo III. Still play D2 on and off every now and then, such a classic!

Top 3 games I play nowadays would be Team Fortress 2, League of Legends and Minecraft. I just finished playing F.E.A.R. 3, definitely a great franchise!

Funny you should ask. I went to see Tiësto and Feed Me last night here in Quebec City. Some may think it’s sad, but I appreciate music a lot more when I’m high. I’ve never done a professional gig when I was, but I DJed for 15-20 of my friends at a house party the other day under the influence and they told me my performance was absolutely stellar.

That being said, I prefer staying sober when I do pro gigs because I would definitely freak out if the slightest thing goes wrong, either hardware or software related. I’m far from being a big shot and I wouldn’t want promoters to think I’m a junkie or unreliable and so when I do professional gigs I stay professional.

On a side note, I do a little producing on the side and I think that’s where drugs and EDM go best together. I’ve never taken anything other than marijuana and definitely don’t do it on a regular basis, but man does that stuff boost your creativity. Only problem is, it’s a bit harder to concentrate and put your ideas on paper (Logic file) :p

The last time I played in a club, around closing time, there was only a handful of people on the dancefloor still partying very hard and one of my friends came up to me to advise me they were on E. I kind of felt helpless because I didn’t know how they were feeling and didn’t know what they would want me to play. What it all comes down to is a DJ should be able to read a crowd and know what they want very efficiently, so I definitely think DJs should know how to party.

I remember seeing DJ Dan Desnoyers like 2-3 years ago. He’s pretty much the biggest Hot Shot from around here and everyone loves him because nobody knows he’s terrible, they just like the fact that he’s a “world-famous” DJ from Quebec.

So I go into this room where he’s playing, stayed there for about 45 minutes and during that time, I shit you not he played Rihanna’s “SOS (Rescue Me)” 3 times during those 45 minutes. ‘Nuff said.

Now its my birthday in a couple of days. So im guessing there for me off my very generous girlfriend. Must also add im very shocked shes got me anything to do with music as since i got into this couple of months ago she reckons i have a new love….. She may be correct haha! Anyway i decided to have a look at reviews and see if they are any good for djing. And iv read really mixed reviews. Some saying there basicly cr*p for djing and some saying there pretty decent. But iv found that maybe alot of people are hateing them because of the fact there “mainstream” and i do accept there probably overpriced. Now do i risk an ear bashing and ask if maybe she could swap them for some others? Or are they actully ok? Does anyone have any thoughts on my problem? I am sure shes seen them in the shop and because of the price she thinks they are vey good headphones and a great present for someone whos starting to really get into djing.

The beats aren’t necessarily bad headphones, they’re just insanely overpriced. You can get the same sound and construction quality from much cheaper headphones. That is the main gripe everyone has with them.
This is also a good argument to get your girlfriend to change her mind about the gift. Tell her you read online that these are overpriced and a cheaper pair would’ve done the job if you want to save her a bit of cash or just go with the flow and thank her for the nice gift!

There’s no repetitive action you can’t do with Automator if you use it efficiently with Apple Scripts.

Because I use the same laptop for work, school and DJing, I have the same iTunes library for my DJ songs and everything else.

My automator action involves iTunes, Itch and Mixed In Key. Because I have a lot of other songs and playlists appart from my DJ ones, I didn’t want to integrate iTunes into Itch. What I did was create a folder where all my DJ songs are and that way it’s easy to add them to Itch, just add every file in that folder and Itch only adds the ones not already in it. Then, analyze the songs recently added.

When you analyze a song in MIK, I made it so it adds the Camelot key in the comments metadata of the song and deleted every other comment so I could easily find my DJ songs in iTunes with a smart playlist that includes every song with a comment.

So that’s my setup, to give you an idea of how I worked. Onto the Automator action:

    1. I would have a playlist in iTunes that included every song I wanted to analyze with MIK and add to Itch. For example, at the end of a day of new song discovery, I would have a dozen or so songs in that playlist. The first Automator action was to take every song in that playlist and move the files to a folder I had named “Analyze”.

    2. Next step was to open up Mixed in Key, point it at the “Analyze” folder and get to work on all the files in there. I would have a pop up asking me to press a button when all the files were analyzed.

    3. When I pressed the button after all the files are analyzed, Automator would move them from “Analyze” to my “Itch” folder with all my DJ songs in there. Then it opened up the Itch software, waited for it to load, would go to my “Itch” folder in the file browser, select every file in there with (CMD+A) and add them to the Itch library. Then, press the Analyze files button and Voilà!

Things you should know: Some of these Automator actions relied on the mouse clicking specific places, so during these actions you can’t really use the computer to do anything else, but this was only for when MIK opened up and when Itch added the files.

This is just an example of how I do things. I recently bought a new PC so I formated my Macbook Pro because I will be using it less for some things. I now have 2 partions on my HDD, one for everything and one for DJing. My next Automator action will be quite similar in what it does but how it does it will be completely different, so just keep in mind Automator is extremely flexible and you don’t have to completely change your workflow for it to work for you. I’ve never used Platinum Notes, but I don’t think it’d be much harder to add that into Automator also.

I’ve made myself an entire workflow for organizing my songs with this. I don’t think automator should be taught because there is no way to do something wrong and we all have different methods for organizing our stuff.

That being said, that’s a darn good tip. Automator has saved me a LOT of time over the years and if you know anything about computers you should get it to do what you want it to do.

Are you an XBOX; Playstation or Nintendo Fan ?

Definitely Xbox 360. I recently bought myself a kick-ass gaming computer to be ready for when Diablo 3 comes out haha.

Do you have Xbox Live? We could get a DDJT clan tag started.
