Crane Stand all the way. They’re rock solid, flexible, and will last a lifetime of abuse. I love mine!

You could also buy TSP, then sell off your old TP lisence – that’s one way to go.

But the fact is you’ll need a soundcard of some type – either a NI one or a Serato one. If your booth has a Serato one, I’d go SSL as it’s the cheaper option. But if you want to stick to Traktor, I’d but TSP then sell your old TP license – at least then you recoup some of your costs.

Let us know what you think!

Does the club have a serato box installed? If so, all you have to do is buy some timecode vinyl. ($40) and download the software (Free!). While it might not be your preferred software, it’s a damn cheap way of getting into DVS.

Update: I’ve gone ahead and accpeted the gig – and now the promoter (naturally) wants me to help them promote the event.

So, my main focus is around college – which has a typical party atmosphere, and my gig coincides with the last day of semester, so hopefully people should be in the mood.

As far as promotion goes, this is what I’ve been doing so far:
-Mentioning the gig when asked about my DJing – this way people are listening to me and wanting an answer, not having me shove it in their face.
-Announcing it on my facebook page as well as my personal one too.
-Also announcing it on the college facebook group, so hopefully everyone know
-And I played a demo set at dinner time which was in the style of the event – chilled and indie
(also people thought I was the best performer of the night, the rest were acoustic singer/songwriter acts – stoked about that 😀 )

Also, I’ve got plans to get the following things set up:
    -Posters in promenent locations
-A “mystery” kinda campaign where I slip a QR code under people’s door – they scan and find my page announcing the event
-also might do a demo at lunchtime at uni as well

    D-Jam, your professional opinion?

I’m keen to see what the build quality is like on the unit, as it seems to use all Pioneer components for buttons/knobs etc. Even the pitchbend paddles look as though they’re off a CDJ1000!

I do believe that only the Pro is supported, however you can try with the reguluar Mixtrack if you wish… just head over to http://serato.com/dj-intro and download for free, you’ve got nothing to loose…

I ask this because I use it to beatmatch. On the Zomo there doesn’t appear to be a lot of travel with these pitch-shift paddles therefore I’m wondering how easy it is to accurately and quickly adjust the BPM this way.

I think the paddles act like pitch bend, allowing you to nudge tracks – effectivly replacing jogwheels.

Really? I quite like it. But I guess is does suggest a bit of a bogan/chav element though…

Not a problem. I also suggest you check out the “Traktor Bible”. It’s honestly the best book out there on how to work Traktor, and should give you a good idea of how everything works. Just google it, shouldn’t be too hard to find. 😀

Okay, lets take a crack at this.

    1. Traktor will only load to a certain point in the track if:
    a) You have the cue point set as a load cue point, and
    b) You have “Initially cue to load marker” checked under Prefs > Loading

    2. When you say CueUp, you mean the CUP button? You shouldnt have to switch into hotcue mode to get to your first cue point if you have 1. above sorted. The difference is Cue acts like the cue button on a CDJ – it plays the track from the set cue point when held. If you let go if the Cue button, it stops and resets back the the cue point you just played from.

What CUP does, is when pressed, it will play the track from the last cue point, but will continue to play when released. It basically works as a hotcue, but uses the floating cue point instead of a set cue (see next answer for more detail)

    3. This little white triangle is the floating cue point. You can set this by moving a non-playing track to the point you want, then pressing CUE or CUP. Note that this cue is not saved, and is easily re-set.

Your problem sounds like you have Snap on. Go to the MAIN volume knob, and see the little “S” and “Q” buttons below it? Click on the “S” so it’s unlit, this should solve your problem.

    Hope that helps mate!

By going out the event the other night, I was attempting to meet the promoters, however their lack of attendance was dispointing.

In regards to the crowd, I’ve been asking my indie friends what they would expect from an indie night. I lot of them mentioned quieter, indie music – they want converstion, not lots of dancing. Unfortunatly the club is normally a Top40 kind of affair, which may not be so helpful in attracting a crowd.

D-Jam, post: 8259 wrote: I personally think promoters not there or not caring is a big red flag.

This was what I was thinking the entire time I was there. I can understand a promoter not coming occasionally to their weekly event, but if they wont even come to their monthly event? That sounds like laziness to me.

However, that said, I think that the night may have recently changed hands as the current DJs hinted to that when I was talking to them. Also, I think the new owner may be trying to re-invigorate the night, as they recenty put out a call for promo crew, as well as hiring more DJs.

At this stage I’m still prepared to give it a shot, but if the promoter is lazy or has no clue what they’re doing, I might give the gig the flick. End of the day it’s a paying gig, and I’m willing to give it a shot unless the promoter screws me over.

Very cool. I’ve used QR codes before, but I like how they’ve included their logo on it. Certainly makes it unique.
