September 27, 2011 at 9:17 am in reply to: Are the Barriers to DJing too low? See this Video #1001765jezalenkoMemberI actually use some general purpose studio cans, as I bought them when I was recording/mixing artisits in a studio environment. They do well for DJing, but their isolation could be better. However, they sound amazing! I deliberatly bought ones with a very flat frequency response, as I couldn’t afford monitors at the time (still can’t, nothing changes hey ).
In conclusion, you can use studio cans DJing, it’s just that DJ cans to it better!

Set your headphone blend knob all the way to PGM, and you’ll be fine! (This is how I practice!)
jezalenkoMemberYep, I have the lastest drivers, the new 2.1.1 update, and done pretty much everything NI says to do. As I said, I’ve filed a ticket with NI, we’ll see where this goes. Very disapointing though…..
jezalenkoMemberjezalenkoMemberDownloading now….
(Multi-core support! Finally!)
jezalenkoMemberCheck out http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-pro-2/?page=1991
As far as licencing goes, you buy one, install the disc, and upgrade the license as you wish. So it’s all one program.
September 19, 2011 at 4:22 am in reply to: A Question That Doesn't Fit Anywehere Else (I Think). #1001708jezalenkoMemberSo just clarifying, you want to be able to DJ, as well as create music live, and implement both into a peformance?
Really, it’s a lot of personal preference, but I would say maybe Ableton Live would suit your needs. (Check it out here, they have a 30-day demo too). It’s mostly a producing software, but can be used to DJ as well. However, it’s not as flexible when DJing as you must pre-prepare sets beforehand. However, the software does allow you to hook up MIDI instruments and use extra pieces of software to create unique and varied sounds from those instruments. This way you’ll be able to use your current keyboard (if it supports MIDI), and I have seen MIDI wind instruments on the market too – this would defiantly make an interesting performance.
My advice would be to try demos of Ableton, and maybe another more “traditional” DJ software such as Traktor or Virtual DJ, and see what you prefer. I’d hold off on the hardware until you’ve decided what route to take.
Also, make sure you ask forum member Emma Partnow if you have any Ableton questions, she’s the pro at it!
jezalenkoMemberThanks Hessler!
I also found the one on DJTT too, thanks for the tip Gre!

jezalenkoMemberAre you wanting to run timecode?
If so, you wont have a hope sorry.
However, if you just want to run your S4 into the house mixer, them go for it. Don’t worry about the DJM900’s soundcard, just set up like your S4 like normal and plug the master outs from the S4 into a spare input on the house mixer. You should be good to go then.
