Back on track, I have 18GB of music – which is still too much! I think I need to have a cull….

My little home set-up, nothing fancy, just a Mixtrack Pro, Crane Stand, and some AKG studio headphones. My usual monitor is missing, (crappy Alto) as I’m currently away from home.

Yeah, the NS6 isn’t avaliable in Australia yet, so might just head down the well trodden path and get the S4. Dont think i’ll have any regrets either way! However the fact that the NS6 can be used as a stand-alonle mixer is a big plus for me – just not the price tag!

I have to agree with Emma here, a catalog of all the articles published on the blog would be a fantastic reference for everybody out there, as the current search function is nearly useless as all it does is drag up the most recent articles.

That said, most of the articles I’ve read over the past year are of fantastic quality, and would be fantastic compiled in a published format – Hence why I’d love to be able to easily look up old articles! (Just a suggestion, what DJ Tech Tools does with old articles is good – see http://www.djtechtools.com/category/advanceddjtips/?all=1 for what I mean.

Well then, thats set. I used be a roadie after I finished school! For me, weight isnt an issue, durability is. The S4 won’t be used in a club/bar type environment, rather in a mobile set-up. Basically the controller has to withstand being constantly moved (mostly to/from my car), which is why I want a roadcase, not a soft bag.

So guess my original questions still stand 😀

Rather than trying to save up by buying some mediocre ones, you’ll end up spending more in the end. Because after awhile, you’ll not be satisfied and think of upgrading, so in the end you’ll end up buying more things.

+1 to that. I’ve had my Mixtrack Pro about 6 months now, and I’m already looking to the future on what to buy – now the question is NS6 or S4?……

My significant other in my life. 2002 Nissan X-Trail, (manual of course!)

Great little car, she has enough room in the back for a pair of 2-way PA speakers plus all my other other gear.

And the other great feature is that you can fold the rear seats flat with the boot, so you can roll out your swag and sleep in the back!

I used to play soccer/football as a kid, these days I’m into compeditive fire-fighting (sounds bizzare but it’s about 200years old!)

Basically the idea is teams of 2/3/4 people have to set up hose lays, ladders, branches in the shortest possible time. I love it as it involves a lot of running and lifting, (almost like rugby actually!) – so it’s a great way to keep fit!

I’m a Professional student. (so that means I’m offically broke and unemployed!!)

I’m also a Volunteer Fire Fighter, which I love, as it’s like playing football but more extreme!

And Emma – that’s very admirable what you do, keep up the good work!

    Yep, another here.

I attend the University of Western Australia, and go to Trinity College (obviously the best!).

Also, time for a shameless plug, I’m involved with a uni club known as EMAS (Electronic Music Appreciation Society, bit of a wanky name though). We’re a uni club, but basically act as a small booking agency, as we have deals with several clubs/bars across the city, and run a rotation roster of who’s playing where. Good fun. Feel free to like us a http://www.facebook.com/uwaEMAS

Shut down everything you dont need, kill the wi-fi, make sure everything works before the show and dont change any settings before the show!!! I’ve never had a problem with Traktor or VDJ crashing (mind you I have 8GB of RAM!), however I once found out that changing settings in Traktor right before a show can be fatal.

Honestly, if you can, buy an Audio 2, they are a fantastic soundcard, and should do you well for many years (and is upgradable to Traktor Pro 2). If you dont have the cash, I strongly recomend you start saving!!!

Another option if you have two headphones outputs of your laptop is you download the free ASIO4ALL drivers, which allow you to use one out for the the cue, and the other for the master. Also, you can buy a cheap 1/8″ splitter cable so you can plug in some cans.

Best of luck mate, keep that set nice and tight – but most importantly, have fun!

I’m using AKG studio cans. They’ve got some decent sound quality, but crappy isolation and non-flexible cups. But the 3m lead is pretty handy though!

I currently use Traktor Pro 2 for it’s effects and wide variety of contoller capabilities. I’ve used Virtual DJ Home & Pro (Home was what got me back into Djing actually) however I believe Traktor teaches you to learn your music, not sync waveforms as I found myself doing with VDJ. That said, VDJ is a fantastic beginners software, which I’d highly recomend to anyone keen to give DJing a go.

Unfortunatly if I want to get a gig in my home city, I have to play Top 40 otherwise I am guaranteed not to be booked again!

As my love is for electro house, I find it works well by playing electro Top 40 remixes. Here you get the best of both worlds – you can DJ properly and keep the tempo flowing, while pleasing the crowd with the stuff they know.
