They over compensate the bass freq’s and don’t have good enough isolation for club use. Great for iPods. Not great for djing.

Personally I’d look at sennheiser hd25-II’s or aiaiai TMA-1’s. Both great headphones, tma’s slightly better if you’re after an all rounder for djing and iPod use.

i recommend reading through the articles Emma linked, and also check out this archive of DJTT blog posts that I put together a while back over on the DJTT forum http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24581

there’s a ton of really helpful and insightful information in the links from Emma and I

in reply to: Burning CDs for CDJs #3540

i burn 2 copies of each disc, as audio cd’s with no more than 10 tracks per disc, at the slowest speed it will let me, with cd-text enabled.

used to use nero on pc, but now that im on mac i use toast

EDIT: and write or print onto the disc… no stickers, especially small ones that will make the cd “weighted” and spin un-evenly

in reply to: Remixing your tracks before gig's #2912

With such a competitive market for dj’s nowadays, anything that can help you stand out form the crowd so to speak is worth it. Personally I would make my remixes in the studio rather than trying it live everytime. A controllerism routine however should be done live in my opinion.

in reply to: Debate over syncing vs beatmatching #2761

Phil Morse, post: 1562 wrote: Exactly. As an “old school” DJ, I am quite happy to just BPM match my songs and hold them in sync with the jogs. I can’t be bothered beatgridding, as I only use two decks at my current gig and I can hold two tracks in sync with my ears (and a quick glance at the waveform if I’m chatting to someone with my headphones off at the time!). Beatgridding is too much like preparation for me in these cases, when I can do it by ear anyway.

But add another deck or two in and suddenly beatgridding and syncing makes lots of sense. It allows you to be more creative.

None of my collection is beatgridded… some of it is warped in ableton from laying down promo’s tho. I still play on vinyl and cd’s more than controllers (until i pick myself up an S4 to replace my vci-100), then i’ll be getting serious about beatgridding 🙂

i’ve heard of dj’s being done in sydney and melbourne… but the hard drive scanning software in clubs is one i havent heard of before (and i doubt even to be true). There are inspectors (so i’ve heard) that will audit your collection if they think its suss and you cant provide proof of purchase – but this apparently happens in various countries around the world. We had a lengthy discussion on the DJ Tech Tools forums a while back.
