its not loud music its disortion… if its in the red its disortion… alll mussic nowadays is slighly disorted as its mastered that hard. alll djs play in the red.. its fu”ked even before its left the player

I was just messing around on Beatport and thought I would check out the upgrade your library feature. It led me to an area I had never seen before, my downloaded library! I thought I would play a few tunes to see what I had been buying 2 years ago and my word I hate most of the tracks I used to purchase.

Is anyone else like this? My new years resolution is to be more careful when buying music and to have a clear out of my mp3’s and just keep what I like.

When you clear out your mp3’s can your bring yourself to delete them? Or do you store them away “just in case” you magically like them again? πŸ™‚

I kind of can relate… i do listen to old tracks and see how my taste has changed but i still like the tracks i have purchased. hating your records and deleting your records you have bought…. i think ure either only buying tracks that you hear other djs play or big tracks e.g top 10s. You got to LOVE each and ever record you buy and you gotta know why you are buying them…what attracts you to a record… is it bass.. is it the groove of the drums… is it hooks or melodies. If it just because ure fav dj is playing it, then you will probably not like that record in a few weeks cau there’s no element of that track that you LOVE.

Before i buy any records from beatport or traxsource i listen to them again and again then i come back to it the next day and do the same, then maybe even a third day…. after about 10 listens you firstly filter out the tracks that are catchy but have no real depth plus you start to hear tracks that are in the same feel and groove that will fit together as you are listening to the main piece of records.

    Happy Mixing

any top range laptop can run one program running on its own. My advice is only use djing laptop for djing… that way it will run smooth forever….

Well it can got 1 of 2 ways…you bang your stuff out and people go ape shit….or you realize that its not working at all and be ready to jump to top 40 remixes.

why would to take a gig in a top 40 club?

And generally speaking, I do not agree with the idea that a noob-beginner should start on FL Studio or Live or whatever the “easier” choice “seems” to be. My logic is different: learn a proper, fully-fledged DAW and you ‘ll never have to re-learn anything or adopt your workflow. If you learn your way around on any of the “majors” (Cubase, Sonar, Samplitude, Logic, Pro-Tools) then ANY DAW on the market will be easy for you to pick up.
Trying it the other way around (starting from a “user-friendly” DAW), when time comes to move on you ‘ll have hard time to adjust to the new worklfows.
And frankly, I really dont believe FL Studio or Ableton Live are anymore user friendly than other DAWs – they just have a different workflow and they just make that initial “how do I make a sound with this” step easier – the rest is still as hard as any other DAW.

alot good points as usually softcore…. but there is no question that cubase is nails to a beginner. i bet you if you put two people that had never made music. one in front of cubase and the other reason…by the end of day the reason user would have something 10times better than cubase user.

I am a bit of a Beatport/DJtrax junkie and always look for that hidden gem that i dont have in my library of music.

I try to keep my main song library around 1000-2000 tracks and just add and remove when i have time.

I dont care what anyone says the best sets are planned.. granted it takes a resident of some kinda to play a planned set… as the crowd know your vibe. Cau if you prastise a mix again and again u get it to a point were the transition is seamless. there is loads of talk about reading the crowd etc etc but i think a great dj takes the crowd were he/she want to take them. Im a massive fan of sasha and and see him about 5times a year… one out of them five times he just turns up and is locked in and destroys the building… people are crying and bouncing of the walls. There is simply no question about it he has got alot tunes he loves over the previos months and prastised a set and delivered it. Now as i said before you need a certain connection with ure crowd to to this… be it a resident or in sasha case fans that love him whatever he does.

While I anticipate a great deal of relativist answers (use the software you feel comfortable with, it’s the creativity that matters, etc.) I’m curious as to where, in terms of software, Cubase succeeds or fails in comparison with Ableton. The reason I ask is that I was offered a copy of Cubase for a steal, and was curious as to whether it will only be a temporary investment while I save for Ableton or whether it has the capacity to make me “feel at home” in terms of production. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah Cusbase is excellent but its not for newbies… its by far got the steepest learning curve. Personal i would recommend fruit loops or reason if your starting out. They are such creative programs… you can get ideas out really quickly and start developing ure style. Making music is about having fun and enjoying it.

I now managed to save some cash and plan to continue saving to invest in my DJing carreer, however, I have no idea what should I get next. I had some ideas though (some completely unrelated to others):
    – Spend on proper and more resistant headphones and maybe some earplugs to protect my ears
    – Spend on a proper PA System with two active speakers and a sub
    – Spice things up and diverse from pure digital DJing by buying either a mixer with a pair of CDJs or Turntables

Obviously my budget can’t stand the 3 of them (it can barely stand one) Im really tempted onto buying the CDJs or Turntables to spice things up when the I wanna sync myself mood comes but I guess these stuff is pretty expensive.
The PA system is also expensive but it will land me probably double the gigs Im getting now and they will in the long run pay for itself faster than the other 2.

The question here is, what would YOU do? A huge question I also had is: (and i bold it so it doesnt get missed in the wall of text) Are there CDJs or Turntables where you play digital music? (You plug for example an USB and the ‘CD’ or ‘Vynil’ acts as if it had that track loaded) How much can in total cost me the PA system (not the best but not cheap, for around 100 people in an outside party)? How much will the Turntable/CD + Mixer cost me in total? (Again, not the best, just something quite good that works as an alternative to Digital DJing when Im in an analog mood) Any brands you can recommend? (For both the PA and CD/Turntable + Mixer)

Sorry for the long post, I would really really really appreciate some assistance, I didnt find any of these answers in the forums πŸ™

You have everything.. spend the money on MUSIC. its so easy to get locked into checking out this piece of gear and that… etc etc… Rather than buying music and practising… it doesnt matter if you dj underground germany techno or pop… the more prepare you are the better ure set is going to be.

This is a great opportunity for me but I have no idea what a DJ profile looks like and what I should include in it, specially when I’m a newbie.

    Your advice and tips, please?

Like anything else in print, a well-written bio has good spelling, grammar and good flow. It should have some kind of structure as well. You can start with an outline and answer questions like this:

    1. Where you’re from?
    2. How did you start DJing?
    3. Who are your influences?
    4. What genre of music do you play and what is your DJ style?
    5. List a few accomplishments or points of interest.
    6. Latest projects and direction.

DiBartdi, you will come to realize, that DJs and promoters are probably the most picky and opinionated people you will ever meet…and thats a good thing for the most part. Wearing fashion statements and bling no matter of what type will put a lot of people off. Now i know that you are not DJing for other DJs or the promoters, but chances are that those peer groups are the ones to give you more gigs. By being accepted by your peers you can then focus on utilitizing the connections you make to further your goals.

By using something like the Beats Pro, you are making a statement…and that statement is hey look at me i have all this cash and i spent it on an accessory, and not a Utility item.

I made this statement before and i stick by it…if you are working on a construction site and you had to haul a load of shit away…would you drive a pick up truck or a ferrari? Yeah you make look cool as shit in ur ferrari but NONE of your peers would take you seriously.

This is the EXACT same when it comes to DJing…actually probably more when it comes to DJing because it is a bit of a popularity contest with your fellow DJs as well as ur fans.

Ur fans are not going to care wtf you are wearing…either beats or pioneers etc. BUT a lot of promoters and other DJs will be like LMAO look at that fool hes using beats…guy must be a newb. even people who have never seen you spin before will automatically associate BEATs to kids and amateaurs. Now if you mess up during a set…and wear the beats…promoters will associate you to being a rookie even more.

Where as if you were to wear Pioneer or Denons or Ultrasones, you have the right tool for the right job.

You wouldnt use a gardening shovel to shovel snow…so use the proper headphones for the proper job, if you ever want to get into production you will need a pair of STUDIO grade headphones…and no matter what BEATS say…any Beats line are not studio Quality.

On a side note, Monster has dropped the contract for the Dr. Dre Beats and will no longer be in production.

Not being a fan of beats myself this hit the nail on the head. Think i will be quoting this alot…..lol
