Hi.. First well done Daniel… Epic post

Firstly listen to all your music and how it’s structured… Get a feel for were you might take a track it… Knowing your tracks is vitally important. Personal I would get a simply mixer of eBay etc with just eq.. Levels and crossfader and some buttons and knobs that are midi mappable I started with a m-audio (link below) But some evolution stuff might do…. and mess around with one of the free programs like virtual dj and see if it’s something you want to do…. It’s a steep learning curve at start and a lot of people give up…. It’s better to have spent $60 rather than $ 400-500 plus from experience it’s better starting to learn with minimum controls and learn the basics like eg levels pitch. I’ve seen a lot of DJs go straight for a controller that has four channels and get so losed because there is to many button faders in front of them so give up.
If you are serious about beening pro then take it in stages start of simply and build up. Another valuable lesson is listen to dj mixes… If your into hardwell aoki etc then you can forget all I’ve said. If you want to be a real dj then listening will help you build and construct sets… I personal love Sasha Digweed hawtin Seth troxler and listening to there sets I have learnt so much…. People have got lost so much in technology that they forgot that all you need two records and a crossfader or volume faders ( depending on your style of mixing )to rock a crowd..it all about the music

    Happy mixing

Sound strange… You do realise that most upload site convert your file to MP3 anyway for streaming?

To a 50 year old not into dance music… martin Garrix – animal is just noise they wish would stop.

Personal you have to play to the crowd… You can’t be dropping anything what lasts more than 3-4 mins that is 4/4. Unless maybe some frankie knuckles house tracks… Or old defected kinda stuff..
    Frankie knuckles – Your love
Frankie knuckles – L’ll take you there ( dimwit rip from Paris)
kings of tommorow – show me
    King of tomorow – finally

Tracks that are beautiful pieces of music and have live instruments, vocals, groove.. Soul. Stuff with elements of disco. Something any generation can relate to…. I love techno artists like Jeff mills and richie hawtin but although I love it it’s music to be listened to in a dark room were you want to lose yourself. The tracks I have mentioned were made by a collective and have heart and soul. Something unfortunately is lost from modern music.

That’s exactly why the older generation can’t realte to it… They come from a time were people actually played instruments… I know it’s a shock to young people but yeah… And with that came harmony slightly of drumming etc which added so much dynamics… Dynamics don’t exist anymore… If you look at martin garrix – animal in a audio editor… Chances are 70% or more is hitting the Odb line and probably clipping. We have accepted poor quality sound but people 50 and over will not let it pollute there ear drums which is exactly what it’s doing.

    Good luck with gig

Anyone would in this situation play a cd… If there is not many people there plus they are doing a auction background noise is the most professional thing. You dj when it is necessary. When there is people and there attention is not on something else.

    Hi

First of… Well done getting gig at 15… From experience having someone to help you set up is cool first few times. As your djing friend party should be ok. Another thing I have learnt is first time out don’t be trying to pull of anything you can’t do at home without think about. House parties is a good first time gig cau people are more focused on being cool and taking photos to care about the music. I don’t mean to take away from you but my message is RELAX and have fun… Mixing stuff people like with hidden gems you love. Although all the guys here have given you good info it can make you over think things… Setting up your equipment is easy…and protectin it is like second nature….lol Also at house party’s if you can’t find I tune to mix in in time… Don’t stress if it fades out to end just play start on new track…..

Seriously your in an environment were as long as you don’t have double beats… You are good to go. ENJOY! EDUCATE! DONT STRESS!!!

All will be good.. Let us know how it goes ๐Ÿ™‚

You say in a reply, the US has been alienating them selves from the EDM movement….. they invented the word EDM… before like 2010 it was called Dance music.

You have to start with the tracks you know that you like in edm, there is no point playing tracks just to get yourself gigs… cau if you dont enjoy listening to the tracks when playing then your just going to stand there (like 90% of pop/edm djs) Start with the pop/edm tracks that you know and like. ( if you dont know tracks like Skillillex – bangarang ft Sirah and avicci – levelsย  then dont take on these gigs) Build from there alot of stuff by kanye west, jay-z, timberlake, timberland etc have hip-hop roots but are alot pop so you are not completely changing and you should use that knowledge as the foundation of your sets until you build up a collection of your own.

Your friend probably offered you gigs cau he wants your vibe in his nights… if you just turn up and play all the current edm then you going to sound like every other dj there.

From ure production i know you been doing this for awhile so just put it throu a freq analyser cau i think there is some freq bands that have holes in them… i personal prefer ures to tiesto to be honest… alot more strippered down. tiesto version is to cluttered. Ure top end is very high and very hard on ears… you need to add reverb on main lead or simply turn it down cau its got to be in te 4 -8khz range and there nothing else competing with it so there is no reason for it to be that loud even cut from 10 – 15khz were it doesnt effect sound but take some of the harshness away. As i say i think ure production as in levels against each other and panning is very good….everything has its place etc but you really really need to tone down the top end cau it too harsh… it lets down a perfectly good well balanced tune otherwise.

    good luck with it

Yeah i think that video might have some relevant to the drinking culture but not dance culture… its about the music… yes you dont want to be doing it week in week out in your 30s 40s but it doesnt mean you cant enjoy a few big events… were you know its going to be awesome. I simply dont feel right if i dont see sasha digweed richie hawtin at least once a year… added to that list now are seth troxler luciano madga. it doesnt matter how good ure speakers or headphones are, nothing beats hearing music coming out off funktion ones… feeling the bass in ure body

Seen seth troxler in DC 10 in Ibiza on monday night tues morning… and his flow was all over the place but the tunes were spot on… he gpt so carried away in parts that he even messed up a few mixs but guess what no one cared there was no boos at all cau he was playing a awesome set and the fact he was having a good time in the box was making the crowd get into the mix more.

P.s DC 10 is he best club in the world…. best crowd i have ever witnessed…so up for getting lost in the music and having a good time
