Ok its got to a point now that im going to test this out for myself…. i know someone that runs the warehouse project manchester and im going to make it my mission to play a WAV and an 320 mp3 on the funktion ones, Softcore was talking about science… well i might go there as well… there has to something that tests the energy in the room… and if there is more energy in the room its better…. cau energy is the backbone of atmosphere

very good replies…. i do think thou on a funktion one sound system you are going to be able to hear the difference in 320 and WAV. There is five times the energy coming throu with WAV.

Softcore you say that my statement is wrong and im not really in a postion were i have a system to prove it but you have to ask yourself the question… what is happening when you convert a wav file to mp3? you cant not argue that information is compressed and lost. there is 1091 kps taken out… you have took out rough 4/5 of the information and your saying that there is no harmonics and overtones in that.

There is alot about sound we dont know about. we may not be able to hear between below 20hz and above 20khz but we can certianly feel it in our bodies. Alot of my friends listen to 128kps to save space on harddrive… and 70% of people if not more listen to music downloaded of the internet at 128 or 192 then listen to that thou laptop speakers and ipod headphone that are made for 30p… its embarrassing.

im a newbie as well and what i have learnt so far is this… every song has any energy in it… for example… some track have a good groove that make you rock your head alittle.. then some tracks have the energy to move your feet. Then it ranges to you jumping up and down with your hands in the air. Structuring a set is all about starting with tracks that are groovey but not many builds or massive breakdowns.. keep the energy constant. Then as you move a few tracks in, you start to add tracks that have more stabs and bubbly melodies (or vocals if your into that)… then over next few tracks start to introduce tracks that have alot of tension and realease… in the form of build up swooshs breakdowns. Then.. when you have clubbers in the groove… you drop ure full on tracks… ure best tracks really.

In summary you just need to hold back playing the tracks that you really want to play.. to explian in genre terms… minimal… progressive… tech-house… trance…. then take back down tech-house for the release… to let your listeners/clubbers soakin what just happened.

that the best way i can explain something that cant really be explained….lol

Goood track alot of good sounds and elements. Very clear production i take it you use logic? Ok now for feedback.. the structue needs alot of work… dance music is about repetition… and slowly introducting elements. For me after intro (0.59) you need to drop the section that starts at 2.39… its got all the groove and will get the dance floor rocking.. its ok for me til about 4.49 then you could go into breakdown then build back up til the 2.39 dance floor rocking bit again.

Your stuff sounds alot like the stuff i just to write when i started… written out of the pure passion of music.. althou alot different vibe wise… you have something that jsut need tweaked alittle..

The best adavice i was ever given is… write another tune. The more you write the more you learn… then 10tunes down the line you can come back to your early work and use the skills you have learnt

the dj is gettiong bigger and bigger… the dance tent ois gettiong bigger and bigger at glasto… creamfields etc are now weekend long events… djs like sasha and digweed are djing are djing in new areas of the world all the time. Its now easyier to get into djing.. access to tunes is easyier.

computers will never take over djing cau that would be like sticking on a cd… atmosphere is about the music but its also about the connection between you and the dj.

yeah its a painful decision… i mean i have been going throu the same…and the more you look the harder it gets.. there should be a forum telling you what ure best options are with certain budgets. its abit like digital music…the industry is swamped with controllers now… my advice is to go for a controller that has been making dj equipment for 15-20 years..they have the knowledge and they make controllers that last. the S4 is going to be out of date when traktor pro 3 comes out… which is probably soon cau they have drop t2 down to $79

if you want an answer then you need to know what you want… do u want a completely midi controller or do you want to be able to hook up cdjs turntables

being a producer is massively important… one track can be the difference between djing at ure local bar and ibiza. I remember seeing james holden in manchester when he first released Horizons.. massive tunes but very simply mixing. its the fastest way to zero to hero.. but yeah getting that track is the hard part. A faster way is to hook up with an engineer.

yeah there are loads of reasons really… the main one being you arrive at a club and the dj before you is mixing on cdjs..how you going to mix into his track?

started off well but for me… you need to let a mix breathe before you take in vocals… 2 mins in is too early.. amazing sounds and texxtures but you can hear you ogot into trance throu AVB and not oakenfold van dyk tiesto era of trance.. when i my opinion it was trance… In search of the sunrise 3 is simply the best trance mix there ever was…only beaten my oakeys goa mix but except for maybe phil i doubt anyone on this board even knows that mix…..lol
