It’s tantalisingly close to working, so I’m not gonna give up just yet. Denon have suggested it could be a power issue – I’m on an iPad 3 so don’t have the luxury of the nice new USB 3 A camera adapter which provides power & charges the IPad too.
Probably a cautionary tale to us all, just because something’s USB class compliant doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll sail through without issue on iOS.
Still a great unit though, I just need to nail this Gremlin!
I’ve mapped & remapped this unit – much to my family’s amusement. I think the issue is caused by the unit dealing with incoming midi messages – in order to light up the LEDs. Switch all the LED midi messages off & the unit works fine, just a little dull / difficult to use – especially in a club!
I’m gradually switching the LEDs back on, but it takes time & you need to retest after each setting! Hopefully Denon can impart some wisdom.
DJing on an iOS device alone probably isn’t ideal, sure – but at least a splitter cable allowed you to do this easily and cheaply – every time I’ve travelled to BPM I’ve filled the time by doing a mix on my iPhone on the train.
DJing on iOS with a MIDI controller or external USB sound card or via DVS (DJ Player & DJ Player Pro achieve all of these) is still a great DJ setup.
Not all controllers have audio, the Faderfox units in particular don’t. Therefore if you wanted to use these you would need to get a USB hub & an external soundcard as well.
Got a contact now, panic over & hopefully restoration commences!
Hmmm…I’ll stick my neck out here & disagree. It looks like they’ve wrapped djay2 & vjay into 1 app, yes with 4 deck mixing & tailored to suit the iPad Pro larger screen estate.
No Midi mapping & no DVS means it still falls short (at least for me) on a ‘Pro’ level status.
I’m sure you can do some great mixing on it (as you can with the other apps), but not having that Midi flexibility to map to whatever controller I want to is limiting its appeal to me right now.
Still, an introductory price of 30% discount is bound to attract new DJs into the game.
Officially landed now.
Yep, has to be tethered. I think the processing is done by the laptop & the touchscreen offers localised control on the unit.
Both Idris & Craig were heavily into music prior to becoming famous.
Another surprise to some is snooker legend Steve Davis who has an unrivalled collection of funk & soul 45s. Alleged to have won this 45;
It’s about all things of interest to a DJ, regardless of whether you’re a club, bedroom or mobile DJ. The Pro hall catered for those involved with running a business, so promoters, club owners etc.
Production-wise a few brands were present; Korg, AIRA and a new product called ROLI (http://createdigitalmusic.com/2015/09/new-roli-instrument-wants-make-expressive-control-mainstream/) which looked interesting.
Primarily though, the focus is all things DJ!
