Hi Gary, and welcome to the forums!

There is no lower- or upper age limit for having fun. And DJing is just about that – having fun, and giving a good experience to your audience. Your age only comes into question if there are health concerns in play, but knowing your own limitations will probably take care of that for you.

If you’d like to brush up on techniques and basic knowledge, just to get on the same page as “everyone else”, I highly recommend the DJ courses here aimed at beginners. It’ll give you a simple and logical rundown of what’s what in todays world of digital DJing.

We’d love to hear more about your journey, so keep us updated – and don’t be afraid to use the forum to ask questions and dig into the dirty details of DJing.

    Best of luck!

    – Tord

If any of you guys have any advice please let me know

Be strong, and believe in yourself. You don’t need the approval of others, if you can find it in your own mind. Now that’s not an easy thing when you are 14, trust me I know, but you are obviously doing something right to get up and ahead – and if nothing else – trust in that.

There is no excuse in the world for picking on a person who follows his dreams and desires. Don’t give in to it, and don’t let it change you. I know its hard, but try to ignore it, and just focus on what you’re good at.

I wish you all the luck in the world, and if it ever gets tough, or if you just need help or support – stop by the forums here! I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we’re vouching for you! 🙂

    Got get ’em LEE!

How do you think I should approach this problem?

Very, very carefully, would be my suggestion.

    Definitely never going to happen.

I stand corrected. http://www.pioneerdj.com/en/product/controller/ddj-sz/black/overview/ states that it is supported. Makes me wonder if there is any difference at all between DDJ-RZ and -SZ? If the -SZ gives 1:1 feature parity across RekordboxDJ, Serato and Virtual DJ – I don’t really see the point in getting a -RZ.

    Hi!

I haven’t tried this myself, but my deductive reasoning skills and my experience with RBDJ so far, leads me to believe that you will have effects available for both decks, but you will have to use keyboard (can be mapped to your desire in RBDJ) or mouse/other pointing device to control one of the decks.

This can be tested without the need for a purchased licence with RekordboxDJ. They offer a 30 day trial licence.

I could even use it with Rekordbox if I wanted to? Not sure about that though?

    Definitely never going to happen.

How are you finding Rekordbox for dj’ing with (as opposed to just preparing tracks)?

It works quite well. Just make sure not to stare at your screen all the time, but that goes for any kind of equipment, and not just this unit.

I need to have music that is paid for.

This is the same for everyone who works with music, or listens to music. If you’d like to work with DJing, building a music collection that suits your styles is imperative. There’s just no way around it.

My suggestion is to pick a few tunes of Beatport.com and/or stop by Juno a few times a month to pick some cherries. Over time, you’ll end up with a lot of great stuff!

Most DJs arganise everything within iTunes

Does iTunes offer any advantage over other ID3 editors? I heard Phil say the same in the DDjT course vids..

    Hi,

I went for the RZ as my first controller, and I love it! If you’re starting fresh, I’d recommend staying away for all the weird knobs – and focus on the basic stuff 🙂

    Hi,

First of all, figure out your workflow. The RB relies on Rekordbox, SB2 on Serato. Which platform would you like to use? Serato is a solid and mature software, but Pioneer is doing their job at catching up with Rekordbox DJ. Both are good choices, but requires you to make some broader choices first.

As for SYNC, it’s a nice feature, but nothing you can rely on using. Learn to DJ without it, is my tip. Do a lot of reading and research before you decide on anything.

    Good luck!

WOW! Really, just WOW! I had NEVER hoped for such a thorough and clear feedback. Thank you so much for taking your time to write that up! I’ve been listening to it over and over again like Paul teaches in his courses. Some stuff, like your first comment – I picked up on right away. When I heard the mix the next morning, it just jumped out at me like “What the hell Tord, really?”. But the finer details, I simply just don’t know what to listen for yet.. I just need practice, I guess.

This is spot on what I was hoping for, and thank you again so much for your kind help and feedback! Back to the decks to practice more 🙂
