Pioneer DJ just announced that its DJM-REC mix recording app for iOS is now compatible with Dubset. Dubset is a music clearing service that identifies individual tracks in a mix. This allows labels, producers and rights-holders to receive royalties whenever a mix is streamed. This means that you can record your mix, upload it to Dubset and, once the tracks in your mix are cleared, you can then choose to distribute it on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

If you spin with CDJs at the club, DJM-REC compatibility aims to make the mix recording and upload process simpler and faster, though you are limited to just a handful of Pioneer DJ mixers: DJM-TOUR1DJM-900NXS2DJM-750MK2 and DJM-450.

Dubset’s mix clearing service is a step in the right direction as regards DJ mixes and streaming services. Though there are services like Mixcloud that let you host mixes legally, being able to have your mixtapes on massively popular streaming platforms makes access easier for fans and potential listeners.

• DJM-REC is available now with a free trial. Check the App Store for more details.
