DJ YakaParticipant
cheers mate ๐
DJ YakaParticipantA feel for ya man!
I would never go near that promotor ever again, sounds like he dropped you in it big time. What ever you do, don’t let this put you off getting another gig. We all have horror stories, it’s part of being a DJ, to me it’s all part of the learning curve ๐
Good Luck for the future

My first two mixes are electro when I had a numark iCDmix 2, 3rd one is dubstep using my S2 + TP2, but I’m into all sorts.
Also, what about a soundcloud group for DDJT Readers? This could also work on Mixcloud. I’ve asked Phil about this before and there are no official plans for it, so if we wanted we could create an ‘unofficial’ one for the readers. But we must mention the group is not affiliated with the site and can’t use the DDJT logo.
Any thoughts?
Sidenote, you’re currently listed as living in workington, I’ve just lived in Carlisle for the past 3 years for uni aha, small world
(moved back down to Birmingham with my parents now though)Haha it is a small world, went to tht uni my self ๐
DJ YakaParticipantThanks ๐
DJ YakaParticipantgood on you man, i hope it goes well for you.
i remember my first paid gig, my fingures where shaking, i was constantly checking my track was cued at the correct spot…. like a 1,000,001 more time than i normally do haha.
the trick is just to stay relaxed, calm, and just enjoy your self, nail the first couple of mixes and you will be fine. remember this is what you do, this is what you have spent all them hours in the bedroom practicing for.
are you using your own gear?

DJ YakaParticipantRespect!
DJ YakaParticipantI have to agree with Softcore. I would say a professional DJ is someone whoโs main income comes from their DJing.
However just because they are professional does not mean they are โgoodโ or the โbestโ. I have seen many armature DJโs who a way way way way way way better then professional DJโs.
Good question though!DJ YakaParticipantall the above comments are sound pieces of advice.
why not try something a little differnt aswell. thats what i did. my main style of music is dance music. progressive house/electro house/ top 40 remixes. when i was looking to try and get a residancy, i sent out a letter with a mix CD to cloths shops in near by cities.
i ended up playing a 5-6 club set for one of the UK’s largest clothing stores on the busiest shopping day before christams, in one of their city stores. it was different….but it was awsome.
i handed out loads of business cards and free mix cd’s with my name splatted all over them.
never looked back since.
hope you get to where you want to be…good luck (think outside of the box)
DJ YakaParticipanti have two main techniques…..
1) pretend to have a look fot the song…..”oh no i havent got it” with a bit of a disapointing look on my face, “I love that song too!…I will have to download it some time this week, so i have it for you next time your in”…. and just sort of agree that they have choosen an awsome song but its just unfortunate i dont have it. (even tho the song is garbage and un-appropriate)
2) this is more for the drunken ##### …… and this technique is simply too say yes i will play it in a few songs time……then just accidently on purpose forget to play it. i found that they are that drunk they will not remembr anyway.
i know these techniques seem awfull, but at then end of the day, i am their to play to the masses, and not just for one stuck up or druken idiot. if a request fits in to what i think the dancefloor is wanting then i will play it, or if loads of people are coming up asking for the same tune, then chances are i will try and fit it in, becasue thats what the “majority” of the crowed are wanting.
DJ YakaParticipantcheers predatorfc i will check em out now
DJ YakaParticipantI use the mic when i have too, nothing moe nothing less. I know Dj’s who love to use the mic, as they have what i call the “gift of the gab”. wish i had the gift of the gab, but i don’t.
DJ YakaParticipantthats what i was thinking.
we don’t have a massive garage scene in my area to be fair….. so if people where to recognise tunes, they would have to be classics i think.
i am realy looking forward to the night, its just am a dance dj, so its going to take some prepping. all part of the fun tho ๐
DJ YakaParticipantCheers mate i will do
DJ YakaParticipantjokes aside, ellgieff is 100% right….. thier will always be a time and a place for any song/tune doesn’t matter how cheesey it may be
