    Hello Mike :);
    This was the First Deep House Set I have done; and I just Loved the way the Tracks flowed into each other; seemingly creating an Atmosphere of Calm; yet still Danceable (at 128BPM);
    I was Really Happy with it when I Completed it; and now; tonight; having heard it around 4 times – as I can’t Afford to allow myself to Blow a Chance that fell into my lap – I can’t even hear the 2 Second Problem I had been hearing before;
    So; Yes; I am Happy with it; and although I could ‘Tinker’ with it forever; I will listen again tomorrow as I would like to add just a little Delay to the ending of two Tracks; and then just Master it with Ozone 4;
    But Thank You for your interest; that is Very Kind 🙂

    Hello Adam :);
    I Certainly think you are being Hard on yourself if you have only been Mixing for 2 Months;
    It is all about Practice; Practice; Practice; and then some More Practice;
    But; I have listened to your ‘Kickstart’ Mix; and I can give you a little Constructive Critism if you like; however; if it is not welcome then Please ignore it;
    Your First Transition from ‘Example’ to ‘Katy Perry’ is Excellent
    Your Second Transition from ‘Katy Perry’ to ‘Flo Rida’ is a bit of a ‘Trainwreck’
    Your Third Transition from ‘Flo Rida’ to ‘Calvin Harris’ could also have been Excellent; but you Faded Out ‘Flo Rida’ Too Quickly;
    I am Nobody; and only You will Know when you Feel Satisfied :);
    But; from what I have heard; you have the Willingness and the Desire; and the Rest will come Naturally with Practice 🙂

    I have to say that I didn’t even know what Dubstep was until about 6 months ago; but since hearing my first Track (Figure & Will Bailey – Move); I have been ‘Hooked’; whilst in Recovery from Health Challenges I spent 3 Months listening to Dubstep and nothing else; and it literally ‘Saved My Life’;
    There are Many Different Genres within Dubstep; and I feel that Chilled Dubstep can (and will be) Accepted within the Mainstream; and the Filth Dubstep will Always stay Underground; but Drumstep is Escaping already into the Mainstream; and once the Crowds Understand the Beat; as they Understood Breakbeat; and then Drum & Bass; I think it will be a Genre that will have its Own Nights for a long time yet as it is just Getting Bigger and Bigger in the UK; and I hope it Spreads Worldwide;
    As a previous poster said; the Fact that Dubstep can be made Very Easily at Home with the Massive Plug In (even I can make it :)); I can’t see it just Drifting Away anytime soon;
    Soundcloud is Full of Dubstep; and there are Hundreds of Amazing Producers now; and although possibly Controversal; when I hear an Incredible Track by a 16 year old it just fills me with Hope as we don’t know where they will go next; and as DJ’s we Need Music
    What has Inspired me So Much about Dubstep is that there are No Restrictions; you hear Samples from Movies; from TV Shows; from Interviews with people such as Charlie Sheen and Kenny Powers; we have Samples from Video Games; the list goes on;
    And ‘The Wobble’; what more can be said; if you Love it you Love it; if you Hate it you Hate it 🙂

    Great Question Dr Gre :);
    I may have further thoughts after thinking about this for longer;
    But my initial thoughts are these;
    1: Women Choose to Prioritise when it comes to Pregnancy and Children; and these will (in Most Cases) Always be their Priority
    2: Women Lack Confidence in their Abilities to Succeed; and Dressing Up and Dancing are things they learn Early in life; so being Out on the ‘Floor’ in the Crowd is something they feel ‘Comfortable’ with; where the thought of being ‘Behind The Decks’ and ‘Failing’ would be a Catastrophic Event; and something to be Avoided rather than Cherised;
    3. It is So Hard not to be Sexist here; but as in Football and Snooker; DJ’ing is Mainly a Male Orientated Profession; and unless a Female has a Contact in the Music Industry or is Encouraged or Set Up by another Female DJ; it is Incredibly Hard to be taken Seriously; in my Own Case I had to ‘Make It’ with my Remixes before I was taken Seriously as a DJ/Producer;
    4: And I think I could add a statement that could be seen as Silly or Rational and Reasonable; it just depends who is reading it;
    But Many Females are not into ‘Fiddling With Knobs’ or have the Patience to Learn How to ‘Use’ Equipment; I Personally Love the Aesthetics of Mixers; Controllers; Software; and get Incredible Satisfaction from pulling off a Successful Transition; as I am Certain that All Male DJ’s Appreciate; but; to finish off; there are (in Most Cases) More Female Mid-Wives than Males; so again I feel that the Issue regarding ‘Priorities’ is Relevant 🙂

    When I began DJ’ing my Style was Straight Upfront House Music; I then moved into Techno Sets; and now having spent a number of years with Severe Health Challenges; i have had the Opportunity to Explore other Genres;
    On each of my Radio Shows I play a Different Genre Depending on my Mood;
    House; Deep House; Hard House; Techno; Breakbeat; Drum & Bass; Dubstep;
    And I also (like a previous poster said) like to ‘Mix Up’ my Sets; so in a 2 hour Set I will move between 5 Different Genres;
    My Most Recent Technique in getting from House to Dubstep is using a ‘Tek-One’ Remix; and this works So Well 🙂

    Yes :);
    Strangely enough 3 people (one person who has been DJ’ing all over the World for 20 years; and 2 Prolific DJ’s; one from Canada; and one from Miami; have all said it is Perfect and that they Loved it);
    And so sometimes I wonder if it is our Moods at the time that Affect the way we Judge our Sets ?
    I was going to leave this Set for a week and go back to it and see how I felt; but I have been asked for it ‘Now’; so no time for me to be Pedantic about it as it needs to be Sent;
    But I have listened to the Transistion Twice since I wrote my Post; and I can’t even hear what the Problem was (even though I am now Searching for something to be Wrong);
    However; I am like this with All my Sets so I thought I would ask the question of the Group;
    Though I do Laugh when I occasionally do hear a Train Wreck as it gives me an Opportunity to try Harder 🙂

    Hello Dr Gre :);
    Thank You for your reply;
    I thought I better not Double Post; so I will add this and answer your queston here :);
    I have just pinned my Headphones to my Ears; and although it is Extremely Difficult now to find the 2 Seconds I was Unhappy with; having had this Niggly Feeling for a number of days; I can describe what was happening;
    Both of the Tracks are Deep House; and one of them is a straight 4 x 4 Kick; but the other one has some Toms that come in; and although they fit Exactly inbetween the Kicks; there is a ‘Whoosh’ Effect that comes in on one Track just as the Bassline on the other Track comes in; and my Brain was telling me that this just wasn’t ‘Right’ … I was thinking of Cutting the Tracks and using a 4th Deck to get rid of the ‘Whoosh’
    And although it sounds Great now; it is just your Question that makes this Forum Great as we can Share Techniques and Solutions with each other 🙂

    Hello Charlie 🙂
    I have used 3 Different Types of Software in Making my Own Music; Beginning with …..;
    Magix Music Maker 12 Deluxe; which was Excellent for Basic writing of Tunes; and has the facility to drag in Samples from anywhere on your Hard Drive from its Browser; but it was quite Limited in the Effects department
    Magix Music Maker 17 is now available for £90; http://www.magix.com/gb/music-maker/
    I then moved onto ….;
    Sony Acid Pro 7 which was more of a Complete Package; but much too Complicated for me with the way they organise their Buses; so trying to get an actual idea down to Completion was not an easy feat
    Sony Acid Pro now available for £250; http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/acidpro
    I then had a go at ….;
    Fruity Loops (FL Studio 9); which is Excellent; if you get the hang of how to use it; i have seen and heard some Fabulous Trance Tracks made using FL Studio; there are Many Effects available; but the Piano Roll takes some learning;
    FL Studio 10 Producers Edition available for 126 Euros
    Ableton 8 Suite – As soon as I opened Ableton 8 and saw the Vast amount of Instruments; Audio and Midi Effects; the fact that you could Build your Own Instruments; Racks; Drum Machines; Synthesisers; with Ease; use as Many Tracks as you please to Write your Material; use Effects on Every Channel and Chain these Effects together; (and use it to DJ of course); and having spent months Committed to learning the Product I could not Reccommend Anything (other than Logic; but I don’t have an Apple) Better for Creating and Producing you Own Music; the Piano Roll (Arrangement View) is a Breeze; and you also have another screen called ‘Session View’ (which other DAW’s do not have); where you can Build your Track from Samples and Loops; it wouldn’t be Fair for me to direct you Away from this site; but there are Many Producers who give Instruction on how to use Ableton in a User Friendly Manner;
    Ableton 8 Suite is now available for 549 Euros;
    So to Sum Up; in effect; it is all about Price VS Intention Of Use (or could be);
    If you are Very Limited on Price I would go for FL Studio 10;
    If you wish to Own a DAW that you will Never Tire Of; then Ableton would be the Choice;
    I Hope I have Helped you in some way 🙂

    I bought Mixed In Key after studying the Review on Digital DJ Tips; and then the MIK Forums; and have found it to be the Best Money I have spent in recent time;
    Like Phil I have All my Tracks Labeled (included Samples); and though I was Obsessive at first about ‘Only’ Harmonic Mixing; (because I like to Often let Tracks run for up to 2 Minutes together); I have sinc emoved into the Camp of using the Key of the Track as an Informative Guide; but not something that Dictates what I Mix;
    My Current Set goes from 12A to 3B to to 10B to 11A to 7A and it sounds Great;
    So MIK is Not Essential; but I wouldn’t personally do without it 🙂

    It took me a Long Time to make the Transisition from my CDDJ’s to Software;
    I began with VDJ; then moved to Deckadance; Traktor DJ Studio 3; Traktor Pro 2; and Torq;
    But; having learned to DJ with Ableton I haven’t found anything to touch its Capabilities; and so I Always use that now

    in reply to: What Inspired You To Start DJ'ing? #625

    What Inspired me to start DJ’ing was the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix that I listened to and Recorded every Saturday night :);
    Having heard the Greats; such as Carl Cox and Dave Clarke; a sense began to grow Within Me that ‘I Could Do This’; and not only that; but that ‘I Can Do Better Than This’; (Not Better than Cox/Clarke; but some of their Transistions); so; having bought 2 Pioneer CDDJ’s; a Pioneer Mixer; and Complimented this with my PC (No Software) and 2 Cassette Decks; off I went :);
    I was Determined to Emulate Carl Cox’s 4 Deck System; which I did; and then went on to use 5 Decks Successfully;

    in reply to: Feedback on Ableton as dj software #623

    Hello Andrea :);
    I have been using Ableton 8 for DJ’ing for about 9 months now; having used Traktor DJ Studio 3;
    And although I recently bought Traktor Pro 2; I felt quite disappointed and frustrated and so have gone back to Ableton;
    I will try and give you some Pro’s and Cons for each if I can;
    With Traktor; like Rob said; you have the ability to see Artwork; which could makes things ‘easier’ when selecting and remembering Tracks; and you can see Multiple (up to 4) Waveforms easily; however; these Waveforms are Very Small; and for me Personally Too Small to work with; Traktor Pro does have the ‘Look’ of 4 Decks; which is really Comforting; and the facility to create 16 Loops completely on the ‘Fly’; which is a Great Asset; there are 30 DJ Effects available in Traktor; and of course Big Name DJ’s do use and Recommend Traktor Pro as their Software Of Choice;
    Within Ableton you are not Limited to 4 ‘Decks’; you can have as many Decks as you Choose literally; you are not Limited to 30 DJ Effects; there are Hundreds upon Hundreds of Effects; (I have just counted 79 Seperate Reverb Effects alone); your Browser in Ableton is equally; if not More Powerful than Traktors; as you have Unlimited choice in how you organise your Music into folders;
    Again; as Rob said; with Ableton there is (or can be) More Preparation involved; but that is depending on how you use it; ableton has something called ‘Session View’ where you just drag Tracks into the Programme (as in Traktor) and they will play; there is No Sync Button in Ableton and this is something I Love; as it Makes us Beatmatch by Ear; we do have a Master Tempo in Ableton; however we have the facility to start one Track at 70BPM; and immediately follow it with a Track at 135BPM (or Any BPM) using a Simple Command; and the Tracks will play at their Original BPM and at their Original Pitch;
    To sum up:
    Traktor can Only be used as a DJ Console
    Ableton is a Digital Audio Workstation and can used for DJ’ing; Composing your Own Music; making Remixes/Mash-Ups; Producing and Mastering; and also has the facility to use Hundreds of VST’s; which include Traktor Pro; and Many others that Big Name DJ’s swear by;
    I Hope I have been of some use to you Andrea;
    But for further information regarding the 2 Products; please visit the following links;
    Best Wishes;

    I started my Digital DJ Mixing with VDJ; then moved onto Deckadance; then onto Traktor DJ Studio;
    But; eventually decided to take the plunge and learn Everything I could (which took Months) about how to DJ with Ableton 8;
    I recently had another go with both TorQ and Traktor Pro 2; but have now gone back to Ableton;
