Just go buy any cheep controller with what ever software it comes with play with it for some time if you still have a passion for DJ’ing in 6 months go buy a controller based on how you DJ no mather what you choose to buy now. in a short time you’ll want to upgrade because of limitations of the one you choose. No one of us can make choices for you I might like a controller and you might hate it. but you should really just download some demos and play around using only mose and keybard before you even think of a controller.

I’ve made some playlists in diferent geners the I have also playlist separating the kind of remixes like straied remixes and more crazy mixes that way I know all songs. I also keep the UK Top 40 up to date in a playlist because the club I play most at is a open format club. But I never play a set playlist I put on a song then take it from there the playlists are only there to help me find songs fast.

I usely start out with the mapping that comes with a new controller then play around with it to see what I’d like to change.
I started using VDJ and made some sick mapping for my VMS4 but I’m now using traktor and every knob, button tousch strip on my VMS and Radius are mapped to do something, the jog’s on the VMS are mapped to FX I use the jog on radius for normal use.

First up that was just an extream test there are 8 FX on every single deck where 2 remix decks playing 4 sample each. And the master volume was in the red peobable because of classing of all thoses extream FX. I do not se a way anyone would be doing what I did in this test in realy life. This was a stress test witch I would say it past quite ok.
The test only shows that I can push it to the limit and it should handel it and for normal use there should not be any worries at all

I’ve been wanting to get the Maschine Mikro (so cheap now). How is it working for youwith your set up?

Is is possible to have both Traktor and Maschine at the same time, create a beat on Maschine Mikro and import it on the F1??

You can run Traktor and Maschine in midi sync using the virtual ports. so What you can do is have some beats program in Maschine and sync them up to a song playing in Traktor or you could just play some drums live ontop of a song they are alomst like they were ment to be together 😀
When in sequencer window on top of the 16 sample/pad if you press and hold the mouse on the 4 arrows and wait til it finnished exporting still holding down the mouse you can drag that pattern strait into a remix slot.

you don’t realy need it because even if it would be more acurate the code that VDJ uses the same code for every song so it will be accurate to the rest of your VDJ scanned songs. But if you wan’t to use other programs too for DJ’ing MIK would be vice as it can write it to tag or/and file name.
But for only VDJ you could use your money on something else.

just played a little with it today as I had other things to do today. but what seam to be bug that affected my in 2.5 are all fixed in 2.5.1
Multiplied beatmarkers working. moving song to playlist keeps default folder active. what was what was anoying me in 2.5
and the option to stop a slot rather then mute it is grate. also the ignor quantize if one shot I love so not it posible to do some drumming on my F1’s.

just a basic none scientific test 2 decks 2 remix decks playin all slots all FX activated on all decks keylock and synch enabled on everything no struggle at all on my iMac 27″ 3.06 core 2 duo. 4 Gb ram

P.S. Reason and Maschine were also running in the background

I only have the VMS4 and I have had no problems with it what so ever. but OK I never used a mic with it 😀 (Who at a club want to listin to me speeking anyway) I’ve used it in small club and larger halls and it has delivered everytime. If it should fail on my I’ll upgrate to 4.1 without a doubht. It’s the most flexible controller I’ve ever seen. I’m not a scratch DJ so for pitch bent and jog FX the jogs are just fine.
I know I’m not talking about the VMS4.1 but just think of it like this if I love the original this much I’d probable marry the 4.1 😛

I have 2 of them and totaly love them. I’ve been useing them mainly to make mashups. I’ve now got a Maschine Mikro too so I can make some loops to be used in the remixdecks making some cool basslines and drum loops to add to original tracks. I have totally changed the way I DJ since I got my new (Toys)

it depends. some controllers have 2 midi note for the 2 colors and some are based on midi values between 1-128

I have 2 and totaly love them. They are definitely worth the money I’ve used them live for parts of my gigs the last month and it’s so easy to work on that is just amazing. I also think there should be some option to buy their controllers without software. If you by the S4 and 2 F1 maybe also an x1 you have 4 liscens for Traktor. but they are downloads so no disks gattering dust. anyway thoses 3 extra licens price could go into something else.

In the current version of VDJ none of what you want to be able to do can be done with using the sampler. Only thing the sampler is cabable of it shorten the sample, toggle loop one shot, and volume. And by using the sampler you can’t start you accapella anywhere els then the beginning. So for what you want to do using VDJ you have to use an other deck.
Depending on controller it is posible with most 2 deck controllers to map them to controll 4 decks.

Extra deck for the reasons you already mentioned and being able to use hot cues. Set a hot cue on the start of each vers corus and maybe some extra so you continuesly can trigger so cool prash in the lyricks. also that will leave one deck free to get the next song ready and going.

Actually all the options I’ve seen yet requier a purcase of some sort. There is Lemur and TouchOSC for iPad if you have none of those the Kontrol F1 is much cheaper. Then there is some that let you use a midi to mouse software that can make any controller work with the remix decks( Limeted not fully like F1) but that solution also costs and requiers that you keep traktor setup the same way always.
So for now and I guess for for quite some time the only way to get full use of the remix decks you do need to buy a F1
