when I go back into DJ’ing 2009 I got Djay because I did not know witch other worked on Mac. Then found out VDJ also worked on Mac I went ahead and bought it used it for about a year playing in clubs and larger venues. I was never really happy with how it was. Then made my own Skin but just wasn’t feeling it. Then I got Traktor and I knew right away it was more of what I was looking for used it for a year and I still use it for some sport gigs where I need lots of samples. 1.5 year ago I came aCross Mixvibes Cross with was a bit frustrating to begin with had lots of problem mapping my DDJ SX because I had cross opened while I edited the XML file so lost some mapping parts re mapped to do the same mistake again 😀 but for the last year it has been my software for all club gigs I bring my DDJ SX for most gigs smaller gigs I bring my X! MK2 and Z1 and clubs that have CDJ’s I only bring my laptop. As I have the DDJ SX I also tried Serato DJ every version from 1 to 1.6 and there is not one thing I like about it.

What I like about Cross more then the other is I puts mixing songs in focus not a lot of BS and it works with almost any thinkable setup you could run into at a club. You could get any 4/4 sound card and you can use Cross with DVS

Cross any day of the week. I have deckadance but there is no proper mapping for any of the controllers I owned at the time I got it and still no big controllers are supported. So I just gave totally up on it.
Cross I’ve only had about 1.5 year and it’s updated frequently with new futures and it’s not as future pack in unneeded bells and whistles as Deckadance but most of the extras you get in Deckadance are things you probable never ever will use in any of your sets. Cross has everything you need for a perfect DJ set + some and they constantly improve and add stuff that make you DJ sets better not just so crazy stuff that look good in a 5 min youtube routine.

agree on the players not being an upgrade but the mixer sure would be and by adding and DDJ SP1 I would have the same options as on the DDJ SX.
The DDJ SZ just made it to thomann.de and it’s actually €620 less then a 850 setup and would cost me around €2300 when I have it. hefty price but better then the ca €3600 that the 850 would cost me with the SP1. So quite a lot just to be able to play CD and use Rekordbox 😀

Guess it’s going to be the DDJ SZ then

I’ve uploaded other comparison pictures but not the  850 setup

Going from the DDJ SX up I personally lean more for the Pioneer 850 it is only 5 cm wider and 4 KG heavier then the DDJ SZ

First saw the DDJ SZ fell in love with it and was madly in love with it for a week or 2. Now my feelings have settled a bit I still like to get it. But thinking about it my DDJ SX in it’s flight is having problems fitting some booths I play in. A CDJ+DJM 850 is just a little more then DDJ SZ they are HID with Cross have Send/return and the color FX + building FX about the same size oooo  and I can get them in white, I just love white. Would need some way to trigger my Locators (Hotcues) though.

this is as Vintage is saying mostly amid for the CDj DJ’s that want to go digital

because you are starting out there is no need to get CDJ 850 with the XDJ-R1 (it also has 2 cd players) your also going to be using iPad and iPhone so there is no need for the CDJ850, Remotebox on your iPad and you are set to go and can do amazing things. You also need some basic computer for Rekordbox preparations and synching music to iPad or USB stick.

If you are serious about making Music the iPad can get you some way but a computer can do so much more.

The RMX-1000 has a switch on the back for send/return or master, I haven’t tried it my self but to my understanding when set to master it is less aggressive on the signal. There is no problem using it from the master out from the XDJ-R1 just remember that if you are playing 2 songs it will apply fx to bout of them.

only other things for DJ’ing you would need to go with a XDJ-R1 + iPad are monitors(speakers) and headphones.

for you q about keyboard it really depends what software you are going to use it with.

I was a Windows head for more then 20 years. Recorded mixed and released 5 CD’s using only Windows computers.

3 years ago I switched to Mac and there is no way I will ever go back to using a windows computer again.

A high spec Windows computer can be used after some tweaks (right drivers) a mac can be used out of the box.

that mac will work fine with VDJ I’ve had a white Macbook 2009 <span style=”background-color: #fbfbfb; font-family: arial, Geneva, Tahoma, sans-serif; line-height: 22px;”>dual core intel 2,4ghz</span><span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”> 4 GB ram no problem with VDJ. I’ve also used it with SeratoDJ. Traktor Pro, Mixvibes Cross. I now have a i7 2 ghz  8GB ram MBP SSD+HDD only real </span>difference is preparation of songs. Analyzing songs is faster. Platinum Note can do 8 songs at a time vs. 2 on old mac. But for regular DJ’ing there is not much difference in speed.

Do you have Quantize on and what is it set to? if its set to 4 it will start on the first beat of the next bar.

I don’t have Android so I’m not even sure how quantize is integrate on the Android version

Traktor can be as easy or complicated as you choose it to be, but takes a little to get used to and setup to your preference. The S2 is a tested and well liked controller and is 100% plug n play with Traktor. Also with Traktor if you want to get a new controller later on almost any controller will work.

Serato has really good integration with it’s supported controllers but the futures you can use depend on the controller you have.  I your controller does not have a future you can’t mapp it to your controller, you need an extra controller. the SP-6 Sampler is a nightmare to use and is not integrate fully to any of the supported controllers so a lot of mouse clicking needs to be done.

The Pioneer DDJ SB is what it is an entry controller and even though it looks like it has 8 pads on each side the button row is only for transport controls. so there are only 4 pads (Hotcue/samples) per deck.

I recommend taking a look Mixvibes Cross get a controller that is supported then buy the software. Cross  is close to getting upgrade to version 3 and bass a lot of nice changes. Colored waveforms ( 3 different styles) build in Video EQ pre set from The Pioneer DJM 2000 Mixer.<span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”> Cross is also the only software that has full HID for all of the Pioneer CDJ has a really good browser (Smarlists) only week point of Cross for the moment are it’s FX. </span>

streaming music over the internet (probable WIFI) is not a big problem, if the output is compressed, like internet ration. but to DJ from a virtual mashine you would need stream 2 sometime 3 songs at the same time not compressed. and there will sure be some kind of latency from when you press a hot cue until it gets played. I don’t see this coming anytime soon but I’m not ruling it out. I never play(stream or download a song) at gigs. If I don’t have it I don’t have it I take a note and listen when I get back home.

I’m guessing it’s only for register payed users as it asks for the serial when installing
