Get some good well build headphones right away you might not aford them you think, but buying some cheeper will only lead into buying an other cheep in a month or 2 then one more after that so in the long run you will be buying headphones quite often. I have gone through few headphones this year and the once I have now are starting to break all were cheep so my next purcase will be pro dj headphones. Cheep headphones are fine for listening to music you put them on and listen for some time. When you DJ you put them on and take them of 100+ times a set.
gullumParticipantMashup made live are grate to make you different from other DJ’s. Last weekend I was doing a mashup of “hit the road jack” and “thunderstruck” and a guy came up asking if he could have that mix. He was supriced when I told him I need to record it then because I’m doing it live now. I usaly do a mashup live several times then when I think it perfect I finish it in Live where I have total controll of everything. Then I use thoses pre made mashups in my sets. Anyway if it was not ok to use mashups then it would not be ok to used remixes of top 40 songs in your sets they are in a way bouth remixes and not the originals.
gullumParticipantI just have some mashups and 2 original produced older songs of mine up there.

gullumParticipantI get around β¬135 pr night 5 hour sets to compaire thats about the same I would make for 2 days normal day job. So if I DJ 2 nights a week every week I would make almost the same as if I had a full day job.
gullumParticipantI’m also one to set a loop for use in top40 long boring breaks. I just got 2 F1 so I’m going to be a bit loop crazy for some time I’m sure. I used to use cue points when making live mashups but now I just caputure them into the remix decks and trigger them from there instead. I hope to get some not to crowded night so I can play around with just a few people on the floor π getting ready to drop some insane mashups and remixes to an already warmed up crowd later.

I’ve pland some sets verry good beforehand and when starting to play figguring out that the age groupe was way of and had to switch to classic 80-90’s dance hits. If you play a set no one likes to dance to it’s going to be the most boring night for you and the crowed. Thats why I how alwasy have some backup playlists 80-90’s pop/ Clasic rock/ Disco. Usealy I’m there for the crowed and not them that are there for me.
So I learned to have backup plans. If the mens room is taken use the ladies room π
gullumParticipantI’m a ddj and I also have a deep hate for some DDJ’s I’ve seen They show up at a club or bar bringing only their laptops no controllers and fire up VDJ put some songs in the playlist then hit automix. They get requests and play them next no matter what song was before. So the songs can go from Skrillex to Abba to Def Leopard to Avicii. And they get paid the same as us who actually try to make an effort of real DJ’ing.

Well you could convince her that by using your CDJ’s You don’t need to purchase a controller and no more growing stacks of Cd’s π
But for gig’s it a lot easier to just have a controller and laptop instead of carrying laptop mixer and 2 CDJ’s.
I never ever want to gig using only Cd’s if the CDJ’s at the club don’t have USB I bring my controller.
It’s just so much easier to organize music on you computer and no more burning Cd’sgullumParticipantOne night I got way to drunk nearing the end of the night and accidentally tripped over a cable on the floor and knocked my laptop witch went flying down on the dance floor π so the night ended 5 minutes earlier then planed but luckily it was a slow night and people did not mind.
gullumParticipantI have a Macbook 13″ and for only 2 decks it’s perfect for Traktor but with 4 decks the browser window is almost not visible. With VDJ I have my own custom made skin that has plenty of room for browser. I really badly want an 15″ just for the extra screen space. If you plan on using 4 decks or even the remix decks in Traktor 2.5 I highly recommend you get a 15″.
My friend DJ has an MB 15″ and even though he never uses 4 deck he still has them on screen because they don’t take away from what he needs visible on the screen.gullumParticipantI see it as quite important. if you beat match 2 songs and they melodies don’t blend it sounds to me as a kinder garden quire trying to sing the loudest instead of in tune π But always ears first 2 A1 songs don’t always fit like a pair of socks π
The most important is how the resault sounds not that they are in key. -
