I own a mixtrack pro 2 and have used it live, both in a local bar and at parties at people’s homes. I must admit that this is also my first controller although I have played around with mixers connected via timecode etc.

The pro 2 certainly doesn’t feel like a toy and is pretty well built. The volume of the soundcard is a bit on the low side, but nothing serious. Probably because it uses usb power only. I solely connect it to amps anyway. It has no vu meters (something I mapped myself crudely in Traktor) or gain and filter knobs, which is something I miss. The pads are awesome in versatility and usability and the jogwheels are touch sensitive and work excellent.

The main issue  I have with the pro 2 is the supplied software. I cannot see how this thing was created for serato at all. For instance, the sample decks on both sides control the same four loops out of the six slots. It just makes no sense whatsoever. And you can forget about mapping it yourself, it’s locked. I don’t understand serato’s appeal, apart from the beatgrid and video features, which cross dj does as well for less money. Oh and cross is absolutely mappable.

It really depends on the location you play. I play at a local bar for instance and they don’t even have XLR’s. Most locations will support the standard RCA’s that are on the Mixvibes I think. But there are always exceptions of course.

I’d say all 3 are quite nice. Don’t just take the hardware into account. Think about the software you want to use too. Buying a cheap controller and then having to spend more on additional software can make some pieces of kit not a very good deal.

Have a look at the 2014 buyers guide on this site first. There is a lot of info in there. Do some research first as it is impossible for us to say which controller is best for you without you establishing your wishes in detail first.

If you look in the controller manager in your mixtrack pro mapping, find the controls high, mid and low kill and simply delete the entry.

I’m curious, how did it happen? I have a mixtrack pro 2 myself…

I recall ellaskins on youtube having a go at breaking a mixtrack pro 2  by doing all kinds of weird things with it. The pitch faders were the only things to break.

I use a mixtrack pro 2 with traktor. It works great and it really pays to get comfortable with creating/editing your own mappings. For instance, I’ve mapped the top drumpads as VU-meters if they’re not doing anything else. You’ll never get functions like that in other software.

Of course you think it’s worth it, you’re the keymaster 😉

What I mean is that you can get the basics that are inside the course plus more that’s not in it for free using the free newsletter and the videos by ellaskins on youtube. Saves me €97 without pirating anything.

I think that course is too expensive considering what you get and considering the books and other videos out there.

@Terry_42 I am looking into those as well. For instance, I learned to program my controller a few days ago. The nerd inside me is really happy now 🙂

    Do you have any recommendations?
