Shazam has today announced its new “viral chart”, a daily updated list of the songs that are blowing up fastest on Shazam worldwide. For DJs looking for upfront music before anyone else, this looks like it could be a great new place to check each day.

Not so secret any more…

For many years we’ve taught DJs about the fantastic charts available on Shazam – they drill down by country, sometimes by city, and even by genre, so DJs can discover the biggest tracks wherever they’re playing their next gig. These charts also help DJs fill the gaps in their collections with songs people might ask for.

Inside our DJ courses, this is one of those things that students can’t believe they haven’t discovered beforehand when we teach it.

But this viral chart adds a new dimension to it, because Shazam tells us that not only is it updated daily, but it’s also based upon how quickly songs are blowing up. Tracks that are used in popular TV shows or films often get a second life, for example, and you’ll spot them first on this chart.
