    Can someone say perfect timing?

    http://www.spotify.com/int/coming-to-the-us/

Actually, this morning while browsing through twitter, Trent Reznor (one of my favorites musicians of all time forever and ever) was praising the website while posting the link.

    Very excited!

I recommend Ableton Live Suite. I bit of a learning curve but if you’re dedicated and focus on learning it, it gives you so much possibility. Also, videos on youtube help alot. It can also be used for DJing.

After I hit the gym and have that adrenaline rushing through my body, it feels better than any energy drink/alcohol/drugs could ever do to get me in the zone.

You know this is actually one of my big worries if/when I actually play in front of a crowd. Since I would be in control of the music, I know what song I chose next. I know for a fact I get wayyyy into the music and knowing me, i’ll be leaving the booth (if i know I have enough time) and just dance and go crazy with the crowd when I have the drop set and ready to go!

I have a feeling this falls into the category of: Not Recommended
    :p
One day I will do it though!!

I actually ended up doing this yesterday night. I did a trial of both Rhapsody and Rdio. I actually like Rdio’s layout more than Rhapsody. One of the big disappointments in both cases was the lack of available content from some of my favorite artists: Ismael Serrano, Led Zeppelin, Tool, and Metallica =/

I’m gonna give the new Napster a try later today and see if they have more of a variety.

Exactly! I thinks it’s when you are comfortable and confident with your mixing (which can be done in your bedroom) that you move onto the real art behind it all and basically create new tracks from old. I feel like this happens once you’re actually out playing in front of a crowd, feed off that energy, deliver out an even more energetic mix. The cycle continues until every one’s ears detach from their heads and chain themselves to the DJ gear.

I think this is the the most important factor for your situation. If you already had a residency somewhere then yea, you can afford to play what YOU truly enjoy. If this wasn’t your case, then what you’re looking for is a break. A chance to continue to play in front of a crowd on a more regular basis. So, personally I would say play what the people like but throw some “you” into the mix. The more frequently you start getting gigs, the more “you” you can throw into the mix.

This is just one approach though, and my personal opinion.
Also, a disclaimer: I am a complete noob. I’m just saying what I would do in your situation.
    🙂

    Playing/Creating Music = Musician
    Playing an Instrument = Instrumentalist(?)
    My opinion.

    Haters gonna hate.

Done deal then. Looks like I’ll start off with the mixtrack and look for a cheap soundcard. Will probably order either today or tomorrow.

When I looked at the ADJ2, there’s two outputs. One is for speakers…the other is for headphones. Both are stereo outputs.

In all actuality, when you go play gigs you should just hook up your sound card into an empty channel on the mixer in whatever DJ setup that’s there. I usually do that with my Xponent.

sorry for the misunderstanding…what i meant was that the ADJ2 is only a soundcard whereas the mixtrack gives me control of the program.

and on the flip side, you appreciate DJ’s that really have worked at their skills, even if they’re style of music isn’t the same as yours. my friends are huge into the tech house and deep house. not my style, but seeing them work makes me want to be the best that I can.

lol. this sounds a bit messed up but one of the big motivation factors that pushed me to actually pursue the idea of DJ was the following: I was at a club and the house room DJ wasn’t really catching my attention. So I went to the Top 40 Room.

    I was there for 10 mins….Tops.

This guy was leaving gaps between songs, played maybe 30 seconds of songs before going on to a next one, and would jump from One by Swedish House Mafia to Danza Kuduro by Don Omar. I was so mad!! THESE ARE SONGS I LOVE AND HE’S TAKING A POOP ON THEM!!!

After leaving the club I couldn’t stop thinking “Man, I could have done a totally better job than that guy.” So I went online, started looking at what DJing really is about, and since then fell in love with the art behind it.

    Overall, really enjoyed it!
Just some things I noticed: the vocals in the intro seems to drag out a bit, really liked the transition into knas, this is the first time i hear bonkers and just personally didn’t like the intro but once th hi-hats came into play it made it better, transition into doin’ it right was good, so was D’Azoo and Kids, really like the Swen Weber track, the warp transition kinda threw me off (maybe something with the key?), transition into california gurls was good, blade was unexpected but in a good way, good skrillex choice, and finishing off with porter was boomsexyawesome.

Only other thing i would say is that a good portion of these songs seem a bit outdated for the current club scene (since you said this is a promo). However, this really depends on the club and crowd which you’re sending this out to.

    Like I said, overall awesomeness.
